Scripture Reflection
The greeting of peace at Mass adds substance to a message of today’s readings:
peace is relational. When we greet in peace the person near us at Mass, we share the
touch of a handshake or embrace, sincere eye contact, and friendly words.
The scriptures speak of a similar peace. The first reading from Isaiah describes
the peace of the holy city, Jerusalem, a place of prosperity and comfort where the
“LORD’s power shall be known to his servants” (Isaiah 66:14c).
The Christian understanding of peace changes slightly. Paul writes of the “peace
and mercy” on all who are created anew. Jesus describes a feeling of peace that will
rest on those who accept his disciples and their message.
Peace is both an absence of strife and a personal blessing. May we always and
sincerely bring peace to our own lives as we share it with others.
Our Family Prayer
Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have
appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask
you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded
on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless
parents that they may form their children in faith.
Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give
consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human
dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for
us that we may be a holy family. Amen.

Therapeutic Family Services in Need of
Foster Families
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans’ Therapeutic
Family Services is in need of additional foster families. Foster
families provide a temporary home for children whose parents
cannot care for them. TPFS matches children with moderate
to severe emotional, behavioral, or developmental problems,
or medically fragile children with families who provide specialized foster care. Agreeing to be a foster parent means you
will be working with a team of professionals who will develop
a treatment plan to help reunite the family or find the child a
permanent placement. TFS also trains and supports prospective foster parents. Foster parents provide guidance and support in a safe, stable environment. They provide for basic
daily needs as well as providing transportation to appointments, court hearings, and visits with the child’s family. Foster families receive a stipend to help with the costs associated
with taking in a child. To learn more about the requirements
and process of becoming a foster parent you can visit http://
www.ccano.ortg/tfs/ or contact Mamie Hall-Landry at
[email protected] or 310-6939.
Good Shepherd School
Dancing With the Stars:
September 24
Dancing With the Stars, the Good Shepherd Way, is returning
for the third year in a row, September 24, 2016 at the Marriott
Grand Ballroom on Canal Street. If you’ve been to one of our
star-studded events, you have experienced the blast of a time
that it is. If you haven’t attended our event, you don’t know
what you’re missing!!! This year’s lineup is chock-full of rising
stars who are chomping at the bit to dazzle you with their
moves and grooves—you won’t want to miss it! Among this
year’s line up will be St. Catherine of Siena’s Fr. Tim Hedrick
who will be dancing with Sr. Tracey Dugas, FSP! Their dance
will be choreographed by Jennifer Collins!
The event raises money to support the mission and ministry of
the Good Shepherd School in New Orleans. Fr. Harry Thompson, SJ, started the Good Shepherd School in 2001 in order “to
help low-income, urban youth to realize their fullest potential
as productive members of society by providing them with an
extended day, year-round, quality education, integrated with
personal, moral and spiritual development.”
Please consider supporting this worthy cause by either sponsoring the event and/or attending Dancing With the Stars. For
more information on DWTS, please contact: Jaime Roy
([email protected] or 504-5989399 ext.
