Thanks to all for your help in cleaning out the morgue! We are under way in getting the entire room
rehabbed for a greatly improved storage area for the Aerie.
FROM THE AERIE SECRETARY’S DESK – Mike Larew
Welcome to our new Brothers, William Blowe III; Glen Carsley; Richard Carlyle; Steven Garcia; & Steven
Archer!
Brothers, our summer is fast expiring. Sometimes when I arrive at the Aerie, the time passes and I can’t
believe how fast things are changing inside. In addition, I see many new faces starting their fraternal life.
Being part of 108 years and counting is something I’m really proud to contribute to. I’m reminded of a time
where I heard a crowd complaining about how much better things would be if they were…. Seemed they had
forgotten that they were not the first people to have been down that road. Then from the crowd, someone
responded to one of the most vocal of the group, “Son, the only reason you are where you are is because you
are standing on the shoulders of the people who came before you.” We are all standing on the shoulders of
those who have made this Aerie a great place! Before we know it, a cool fall breeze will foretell of a change of
season. Pause now and let your mind rest again on this part of the obligation that we all have taken: “If I
cannot speak well of an Eagle, I wll not speak ill of him!”
*Brothers, if you are a proposer on the application of a new member or re-enrollee,
please be present at the Aerie meeting to speak for the candidate. *
Dues Reminder
Please check your card. The due date has past for membership dues due May 31, 2013. You are
about to be dropped for nonpayment! ONCE YOU ARE DROPPED YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-ENROLL
You can pay by mail, at the bar, or in the Aerie Secretary’s office.
AERIE MEETINGS
The meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. We have an attendance drawing at every
membership meeting but you must be present to win. Food is available afterwards for Aerie
members who participated in the meeting. Please attend YOUR meetings to make your voice heard
and be a part of events that benefit you and your community.

SOCIAL ROOM - Susanne von Poks, Club Manager
The kudos are rolling in for the Pork Butt Mafia. Napkins and shirt sleeves were depleted in
consuming the grub provided by the dynamic duet. Rumor has it more gourmet delights could follow!
Vince (I can’t stop myself) reports the Bus trip was a great success. The Social Room team is really
working hard to provide all the Aerie members with great food, entertainment, and a much improved
experience. A new electronic pull game is about to be installed. Make it a point to stop by and take a
chance.
Locker dues will be due July 5th but are welcomed anytime. If locker dues are not paid by September
15th, the locker will be made available for future rental.
The Social Room menu items are value priced based on a set menu. There is not an ala carte price for
sandwiches and burgers individually. Please feel free to carry out any uneaten portion of your meal
for later consumption.

NEWS FROM THE PETERSBURG AUXILIARY #882
It was great seeing all of our friends from around the state during the convention in Virginia Beach. A great
time was had by all; the hospitality shown by Virginia Beach was very warm and cordial. The donations for
the charities were outstanding, especially to the INOVA Fairfax Hospital in honor of our sweet, sweet SMP
Elsie Williams and Mother Betty Francy, who headed the committee raising money for this charity, what an
“OUTSTANDING” job was done. All of the Ladies from around the state of Virginia are to be commended
for working so hard to make that “BIG” donation of $41,000.00. How wonderful to belong to a group of
women that are so dedicated to helping our fellowman. SMP Elsie demonstrated leadership and control during
our meeting and everything went smoothly. Thank you Elsie for making the meetings move along and be
informative.
Congratulations to our MSP Diana Tinsley and her officers for the new year. Congratulations are in order for
our New State Mother, Sharon Sipka, and New State Grandmother, Nancy Moffat. (no wonder she is called
“Granny Nanny”) Nancy is a Dual Member of Petersburg Auxiliary.
Also Congratulations are in order for our new SM Conductor, Lynn Jones and SW Chaplain, Jimmy Jones and
to SM Chaplain, Julie Burch, Dual Member of Petersburg Auxiliary.
CONGRATULATIONS to DORIS DAVIS, who was inducted into the VIRGINIA STATE HALL OF FAME.
The surprised look on her face was priceless. She was truly overwhelmed!
“We Are People Helping People”
Frank Lundie Sr. Scholarship Awards – We are happy to report that the following recipients will be
awarded $1000.00 scholarships for the upcoming academic year: Erica Bennett, Brittany Blankenship, Nikki
Boyd, Carlos Collins, Joseph Gobert, Morgan Hall, Rebekah Johnson, Steven Jones, Taylor Martin, Corina
McEntire, Elizabeth Sadler, Gabrielle Spain, and Ryan Wall. “Congratulations to all.” It gives the Aerie and
the Auxiliary great pleasure in recognizing the future leaders and members in their quest for higher learning.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to making the scholarship awards a success. The generosity of the
Aerie, Auxiliary, and the many contributions of all that have been and are still involved is overwhelming.
The awards will be presented on Thursday, August 8th, at 7:00 P.M. We will have a Pizza Party for the
recipients and their families. Frank Lundie, Jr. will be making the presentations.
Franklin M. Lundie Sr., Memorial Scholarship Fund Pool Tournament – September 27th & 28th – a sign
up sheet will be placed on the bulletin board for those that will be participating. Chairman, Shirley Ragar, is
asking that everyone continue to get donations from local businesses and others to give out as door prizes, etc.
The club will open on those two days at 8 am, breakfast will be available. There will be a buffet around
lunchtime for the pool participants.
Welcome new member – Kay Simmons!
Thanks to our Bingo Participants - Thanks to everyone who works bingo or participates in anyway to help
make it a success. We would like to recognize PMP Jackie Callis in her contributions of “delicious food”.
She makes extra pies, fruits, sandwiches, etc., and surprises our workers. Thanks Jackie you are one in a
million!
Thanks to Janett Weeks who has volunteered each week to purchase all of the supplies each week, this is not
an easy task, it’s takes a lot of time and dedication.
Thanks to Debbie Weaver who tries to contact our sisters to work bingo each week and build schedules for
bingo.
I know that if I try to name everyone on the teams, etc. I will forget someone and we don’t want to hurt any
feelings.
If anyone has any suggestions to make any of the tasks for bingo easier, please come to the meetings on the
2nd and 4th Tuesday’s of each month and make them known. We are all willing to make things easier on all of
those that participate. Remember the profit from bingo is what enables the Auxiliary to make their donations
“We Are People Helping People”, and to have our social functions.
Congratulations Grandma’s! Wanda Bridgeman and Crystal Christian have something to brag about.
Wanda’s grandson Chase Maitland and Crystal’s grandson Blake Christian are on the Dinwiddie Americans
Coach Pitch that is now the VA STATE CHAMPIONS. Crystal’s grandson, Conner Claiborne’s team, the
Dinwiddie Nationals, came in 3rd and will also be playing in the World Series. Wanda’s & Crystal’s sons also
coach on these teams and all will be heading to Rockwood, Tennessee to the WORLD SERIES on Friday, July
26th.
Joint Aerie/Auxiliary meeting – July 30th – 7 p.m. Everyone please try to attend!
Until next month…….keep smiling……Pat Rose reporting
BINGO SCHEDULE

their team members to make sure that they will be working Bingo. The kitchen workers need to be there
at 4:30 –no later than 5 p.m. to set up and open by 6 p.m. Those paying out need to stay until the bingo
