Weekend crash causes power outage
On Saturday July 16 at 6:42 p.m., a white Mazda pickup was involved in a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Edmonds Ln. and
Bellaire Blvd. The truck left the roadway and struck a utility pole bearing the weight of several high voltage power lines. The pole
snapped in half causing the lines to fall onto other lines below as well as the metal traffic signal arms. The extreme amount of current
flowing in the lines caused them to weld themselves to other objects.
Texas New Mexico Power representatives spent approximately four hours untangling the mess and restoring power to a large portion of
the city. Areas affected were homes and intersections spanning south of College Pkwy to approximately Corporate Dr.
Great teamwork involving Police/Fire/TNMP employees with a special emphasis on the hard work that Lewisville Street Department
crews put in setting up Type 3 barricades and restoring generator power to the many dark traffic signals.
Lewisville Police assists Dallas PD Southwest Division
This past weekend, several members of the Lewisville Police Department backfilled the Dallas Police Department’s Southwest Division
located at 4230 West Illinois, so that officers assigned to that station could attend the funerals of fallen Dallas Police Officers assigned to
that division. Officers were assigned to the patrol division and answered calls for service and also helped with the traffic flow to the
funerals. Special thanks to the following officers: Sgt. Gordon Blair, Ofc. Emma Smith, Ofc. Jay Alexander, Ofc. Duk Lee, Ofc. Matson
Tiberghien, Ofc. Robert Lee, Ofc. Robert “Butch” Steinle, Ofc. Michael Owen, Ofc. Bryan Shelton and Det. Scott Austin.

Officer Shane Menz reflects on recent loss of Retired Police K9 Immo
A few of you know that yesterday was an extremely tough day. Several weeks ago, I noticed that my retired K9
partner Immo had taken a turn for the worse. His hips were going bad and he was falling down frequently. I could
see that he had some pain. It was a very hard thing to watch from such a good dog that had served me so well.
Saturday, I made a hard decision. I decided that the time had come to release him from his pain and to allow him
the dignity he deserved and send him across the rainbow bridge.
We were together in service for almost six years. He served the city from September 2009 until retirement in April 2015. During that
time we logged around 85,000 miles on two squad cars, had 64 give ups and 5 apprehensions by force. He had found 5,250 pounds of
marijuana, 109 kilos or cocaine, led me to 55 gallons of meth oil, 29 kilos of meth. I don't know how much heroin and cash he found.
Immo passed with the dignity and style only he could have, and had his head in my lap as he took his last breath. There is comfort in
knowing in that I know he won't hurt anymore.
I have to admit that it doesn't seem real yet and I find myself listening for that familiar woof from him that will not come.
Rest easy Immo, you will be missed.

Police firearms safety campaign
In recognition of June being National Safety Month, the Lewisville Police Department engaged in a firearms safety campaign which focused
primarily on the importance of proper home storage. Lewisville residents were offered free trigger and cable gun locks to help secure their
personal firearms from unauthorized persons.
A total of 16 locks were distributed to Lewisville residents and those who work in the city. Another focal point of this safety campaign was
geared toward educating children on what they should do if they ever discover an unattended firearm. Age appropriate activity booklets
were given to parents to share with their children as a means of discussing this important topic. These booklets offered entertaining puzzles and tasks leading kids to:
Stop!
Don't Touch!
Run Away!
Tell A Grown-Up
The booklets, stickers and supplies were generously provided by the National Rifle Association's Eddie Eagle Program. If you are interested
in a gun lock, contact Asst. Chief Jay Powell at 972.219.3612 or Cpt. Mike Lane at 972.219.5134.
Area businesses show support for Lewisville Police Officers
Last week some officers stopped by Buckets & Bows of Lewisville and Orthopedic Associates of both Lewisville and Flower Mound. Each
business wanted to show their support for law enforcement. The department continues to experience a significant show of support from
citizens, businesses and local leaders. The support is very much appreciated by all of the police department employees.
