Getting Active at Rocket
Boys Festival
Active Southern West Virginia, (ActiveSWV) joins our team. ActiveSWV is
a non-profit organization working in Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas and Summers
County to promote and create more opportunities for residents to be physically active on a regular basis. We are always recruiting Community Captain
volunteers to be trained to lead their friends, family and neighbors in physical
activity on a regular basis within their community. Active SWV offers the free
service of Training Teams with volunteer coaches meeting once a week
to give people the skills needed to
effectively train toward area running
events. And Active SWV is working
hard to provide programs for the regions youth to develop lifelong habits of
leading an active lifestyle.
Active SWV and Valley Elementary School, VES, are excited to be partnering
on the first Elementary School Kids Running Club pilot program. This running club team meets after school with volunteer coaches to prepare for the
October 3rd Rocket Boys Festival Kids Run! It is our goal to provide a fun
introduction to training and running with a rewarding race event. The goal
for the kids is to complete the one mile race either walking or running.
With the success of the Active SWV VES Kids Running Club, we are looking
for additional elementary schools in Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas and Summers
Counties for spring and fall of 2016.
