Ten community members who became U.S. citizens this past year proudly joined the
assembled crowd to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the annual recognition celebration
for the library’s literacy students. Words of praise and congratulations were bestowed
upon the naturalized citizens by Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Jr., Assemblyman Edward
Hennessey, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, Brookhaven Town Supervisor
Edward Romaine and Councilman Dan Panico. For more information on the naturalization

Because the library is an enrollment
site for the NYS Health Insurance
Marketplace, navigators from the
Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council are here
once a month. Navigators help people
enroll in Child Health Plus and Medicaid
and see if they qualify for tax credits to
help pay for insurance available in the
NYS Health Insurance Marketplace.
There is no guarantee that the navigator
will have time to meet with everyone
who comes on a single afternoon, but a
navigator will be at the library on the first
Friday of every month.

the internet, post-secondary education,
career goals and other career-related

The library has passes to a wide variety of
area museums on Long Island and in New
York City for community library cardholders
to borrow for free. At our website, you can
view the available dates for the passes and
make reservations. To find out more about the museum pass program, please call
399-1511, ext. 240.
Museums include: American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale; Children’s
Museum of the East End; Children’s Museum of Manhattan; Cold Spring Harbor
Whaling Museum; Cradle of Aviation; Frick Collection in Manhattan; Guggenheim
Museum; Heckscher Museum of Art; Intrepid Air and Space Museum; Long Island
Children’s Museum; Long Island Museum in Stony Brook; Long Island Science
Center in Riverhead; Maritime Explorium in Port Jefferson; Museum of the City
of New York; Old Westbury Gardens; Parrish Art Museum; South Fork Natural
History Museum; Suffolk County Vanderbilt Mansion/Museum and Planetarium;
Walt Whitman Birthplace Historic Site.
Join the library at the Mastic Beach Property Owners’ annual festival!
Our library booth will be there - complete a family activity and get a free
children’s book to keep. This seafood celebration features fresh steamed
shrimp, crabs, crab cakes, and clams on the half shell for sale. There will be
music and dance performances presented on the show mobile. Children’s
activities such as face-painting and sand art. A large selection of food
vendors and arts and crafts items will be on hand. Free admission to all!

The Board of Trustees meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are open and the public is always invited to attend.

All programs are available to Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library cardholders
and require advanced registration, unless otherwise indicated. Please have your library
card available when you register. The Library is glad to provide reasonable
accommodations for patrons with special needs. Please call us at least two weeks prior
to the program to make arrangements. Photographs, footage and names of
patrons attending library programs may be used for publicity. Please inform us if you do
not want information about you and your family used for such publicity.
