District offers summer school options
LISD students can take advantage of remediation, get help with coursework

Summer school used to have a bad connotation. When
one went to summer school, it was because the student
was in danger of not being promoted to the next grade.
No longer is that the sole reason to attend. Summer
school not only can help those who are having a difficult
time keeping up with their peers, it also is a means for
students to get ahead and excel academically.
Lampasas Independent School District Assistant
Superintendent Nancy Yeary is a staunch believer in the
benefits of summer school.
“It affords students who do not pass the STAAR test
the opportunity they need to go into the next grade,” she
said. “And taking summer school allows us to help them
fill in the gaps.”
And to that end, the LISD offers a variety of summer
school choices at Lampasas High School, as well as
classes at the lower grades.
Because of construction work planned at Hanna
Springs Elementary over the next few months, summer
school will be held for prekindergarten through eighth
grade at Lampasas Middle School.
In addition, the summer food service program for
those up to 18 years of age also will be moved to the
middle school campus, Mrs. Yeary said.
A grant will provide funding for current
prekindergarten, kindergarten and English as a Second
Language students to attend summer school. Classes
meet June 3-26.
