Note from the Pastor
Dr. Chet Andrews
Senior Pastor
What a glorious Easter we had this past
week! Christ was exalted, the worship was
sweet and authentic, and we had 2 wonderful people unite
with our church (Welcome Marilyn Hutto and Brian Jones!!).
It was such a joy to see how everyone gave their best for
Christ as we celebrated His resurrection. God deserves our
best since He did not withhold His best (His one and only
son Jesus) as the greatest gift of all time to us for the penalty
of our sins.
Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as
for the Lord and not for men.” The work ethic of the Christian
should be second to none. We should always give our best
knowing that ultimately our work glorifies the very God that
has given us the ability to use our gifts through the power of
the Holy Spirit. The best work ethic is one that works smarter, not harder. As a matter of fact I have heard it said that
“working smart is harder than working hard.” Working smart
takes intentionality, visioning, planning, and exceptional
communication. As we move forward to the church to grow in
our walk with Christ and take the Gospel to our neighbors
and around the world, we will be making a special effort to
communicate more effectively. That means we have to be
very intentional, provide greater detail for ministry opportunities, and get that information out in a timely manner. Please
be patient as we try to streamline our efforts to communicate
better. 2 Corinthians 8:7, reminds us that “as you excel in
everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act
of grace also.”
75th Anniversary Book
The History Committee is pre-selling copies of
our 75th anniversary book. Those who pre-buy
will be guaranteed a copy of the book for $20.00,
which is less than half the actual cost of printing
the book.
We anticipate the book being ready for our 75th anniversary celebration. It will be a colorful pictorial history of our 1st 75 years as a church.
Orders will be taken through May. Checks should be payable to State
Street Baptist Church. Orders may be given to Virginia Martin or to the
church office.
Order forms will be available through the Sunday School classes or
church office within the next few weeks. We appreciate your support of
this project.
Supper line opens at 5:20 p.m. and will
remain open until 5:50 p.m. Please make

NOTES FROM THE FINANCIAL SIDE
OF WORSHIP:
“A man should fear when he enjoys only the good he does
publicly. Is it not, publicity rather than charity, which he
loves? Is it not vanity, rather than benevolence, that gives
such charities?”—Henry Ward Beecher (1813-87), American abolitionist and clergyman
