❝If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his
own language, that goes to his heart.❞
‒Nelson Mandela
Learning a new language is not just about making the grades, correct grammar and the practicalities of ordering a
coffee. Learning a new language boosts self-confidence, broadens the mind, opens doors and develops lifelong
friendships that no other skill can. Language learning, with its unique ability to unlock the doors so often not opened
between cultures, is an exciting and positive way for people from across the globe to walk a common ground.
Run, organised and edited by the teen’s projects class, TECS World is a new project introduced to tecs this year.
TECS World aims to demonstrate the fantastic work of its students and supply information about past and future
events here at TECS. Packed full of students work, artwork, photos, games and events and more, we hope you enjoy
this year’s first edition of TECS World.

Blanca Paloma
My favourite restaurant is “Blanca Paloma”. It is in Puerto Sherry, in “El Puerto de Santa
Maria”. This restaurant makes pizza, in it you can eat salad and pasta too. This is an Italian
restaurant. My favourite thing on the menu is the spaghetti. The spaghetti is very delicious in
this place. I ate in this place two months ago. I like this restaurant because I like very much
pasta but I also like pizza. This restaurant is situated in a very nice
place, because it’s near of the sea.

Amsterdam is a beautiful and amazing place to visit.
You can visit a lot of places and monuments, but first
you have to look after some things.
The first thing you have to know is how you are
going to travel. I think the best transport for that
travel is the plane. The cheapest ticket cost 405.48$
and you spend a time of 4 hours 35 minutes on the
plane.

Emails to Pete the alien who lives on the moon
To: [email protected]
From: TECS teenagers
Subject: visit earth
Hi Pete,
My name is Carlos Hanhart, I´m originally from Netherlands but actually I am living in Spain. I am 15 years old.
According to myself I am a person calm and patient, I am also happy and rather crazy, I am lazy too. I am 1.73
meters and my weight is more or less 58 kilos. I have green eyes but they are also blue, is like sea water. I have
blond, short hair, I am a little bit strong and some people think I am handsome.
I have a big family form 2 different places ( One bigger than the other) One is from Spain and the other is from
Holland, I have a crazy , happy and funny family from Spain and a clever, calm and original family of Netherlands,
they are brilliant.
My brother`s name is Nicolas and he is tall, thin, and really clever, my father is called Elbert he is intelligent,
reliable and he loves the nature and my mother`s name is Carmen she is funny, decisive and she wants to see
us happy.
I have pets too, 2 dogs and 4 cats they are really nice and they take after us it’s really strange.
So, let start showing you my planet:
First at all my country called Spain , It is in the middle of the Earth between the Atlantic Ocean and the
Mediterranean Ocean , We are a big country on Europe we love dance, music, bulls ,food, and power because
we were one of the biggest country in the world but that was years ago.
On the one hand I have always wanted to go to Japan cause of videogames and life there but on the other hand
I want to go to New Zealand because is amazing , everything is new and has lot of nature there are lot of
different people and is really calm there some people say that you can breathe peace. The Earth is amazing.
See you soon, Carlos Hanhart Castro
Hi Pete,
My name is Ana and I’m a human of the Earth. I heard about you want to come to visit us, so I had the idea of write an
email to you to explain you how the Earth is.
Let’s start with me. I live in El Puerto de Santa Maria, in Cadiz. I’m a teenager of 15 years with dark blonde wavy hair and
brown eyes. I’m tall and skinny and I’m very quiet, as my city. In my family, we are all quiet. In the afternoon you can’t
hear nothing in the house. My mum is a surgeon and my dad is a math teacher, so we live in fine conditions. I have a pet
called Muñeco, a ragdoll cat.
The cats of the picture are ragdoll cats too. Aren’t they adorable?
I’m a girl who loves read books (my favourite is The Book Thief) and I love chocolate and sweets. The food of the Earth is
extremely delicious.
Well, let’s continue. I go to a school called IES Francisco Javier de Uriarte, and we go here from 8:15 to 2:45 to learn things
about maths, physic and chemistry, language, biology, etc.
Now, let’s talk about the Earth. The Earth is a magical place. We have got beautiful woods, long rivers, mountains, water,
a lot of type of animals and flowers, and stunning scenerys. On the Earth we have a lot of life and is so beautiful, even if
humans have destroyed a very big part of it and we are killing it with polution.
But humans also have made Earth a more beautiful planet. Some cities and cathedrals are amazing. I recommend you
Brugge, in Belgium, or the tulip fields of Netherlands. They are very, very, very precious. We also have got music, art,
paintings, cinematics, and a lot of other things. Imagination on Earth is enormous. About me, I love rock music like
Metallica or Slipknot, and the country singer Johnny Cash is amazing. I also love dolls, and I collect a special type of doll
called “Pullip”. At the moment I only have three, but I will have more in the future (they are too expensive, damn).
I’m going to put some fantastic places of Earth to show you how pretty is this planet.
Japan (I wish someday I will visit it). Dubai
And there are a lot of fantastic places but this will take too long, so I’m going to stop, but you can search cities on Internet
(I imagine you have Internet on the Moon, because if you don’t, you won’t receive this email).
So I’m going to finish this email, I hope you come to visit us soon. Can you response this email and tell me how is life on
the Moon? I’m sure is very curious. See you soon in the Earth, Ana. ( Ana Perez Montes)

Saturdays at TECS
Learning English through sports, arts and crafts, music, cooking, games, technology,
outdoor learning and creativity!
Trinity on Saturdays
This year TECS are including Trinity revision in their Saturday kids’ sessions.
Students practice Trinity focused vocabulary and grammar with their friends
through sports, arts and crafts and games. Every Saturday is designed and
organised by our great Saturday team especially to practice for the Trinity
exam and make sure it’s fantastic fun for our super TECS kids!
……………………………..
Saturday Sessions
10:30 – 13:30
Students from all centres welcome!
Pick up a Saturday Calendar from Reception or look at the bulletin board to see the
great activities we have planned!
How to improve your English
All students at TECS want the same thing: Get better at English. The students in the CAE class teamed up to write an
article with tips for other TECS students on how to improve their English, whether you’re a kid, a teenager or an
adult. Their advice? Have fun!
Kids
People usually start learning
English at the age of five. But it is
too soon to study grammar,
writing…. So we have to find
another way of making English
easier and funnier for children.
There are many appropriate
activities for their age, but here
we have some of the most useful
ones: games, stories, English
cartoons (with or without
subtitles), traditional songs and
carols, painting and drawing (to
visually memorize the words).
Teens
Adults
Secondly, teenagers have a
different way of learning English.
You cannot make them study
grammar as adults; you have to
make it funny and interesting. In
this sense one activity is to assist
to theatre plays and watch
subtitles films. Maybe they would
enjoy the time with friends using
the language in activities such as
conversations or pen-friends
letters. At this age, our
recommendation could be to
make the learning attractive and
amusing.
I believe that learning English for
adults it could be a wonderful
adventure. You will have the
chance to be a little kid and start
from the beginning, learning
numbers, colors, simple
vocabulary, everything. Your
knowledge is like a white paper to
paint. However most of the
people have an intermediate level
coming from the school years. For
them, reading books, watching
movies and listening to music,
would help to refresh vocabulary,
expressions and idioms to update
the rusty English. But if you have a
high level of English, to keep
improving and not forget it, you
have a wide range of activities to
enjoy reading newspapers,
watching the news or
documentaries, movies etc. Keep
in mind that English is global
common language in the world; it
brings you the possibility of
communication with people all
around the world.

The Gift
Box
Last year the Projects class tried something new, The Gift Box
Project. They didn’t know how successful it would be, but
everyone got involved, from pre-starters to adults classes,
TECS students donated hundreds of toys, books, pencils and
games for children who are less fortunate than us, not only in
the Cadiz province but also in Peru and Nicaragua!
What happened?
We collected toys for poor children from TECS students and
gave them to Madre Coraje. The students of the projects class
designed posters wrote E-mails and letters for all the students
of TECS! We also went to classrooms to advertise our projects
and asked for donations for the Gift box. Madre Coraje came
and informed us about how important our project was for
them and the children.
In the end, there were too many toys for the Box! The project
was a great success! Alberto Peralta Perez
After the success of last year we are doing this project again
so we are asking you to donate any toys, books, pencils,
games and school equipment that you don’t need or use and
could help people who are less fortunate than us.
Please give your donations to your teacher before the 30th
January 2015 and let’s make it even better than last year!
Thank you
TECS would like to say a big thank you to all its students for making this
first trimester such a big success. We have had a great start to the year this
autumn with the Halloween party, the charity basketball event, the
Christmas play and many other fantastically fun activities. As we move into
this winter season we would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas
and happy new year.
The TECS world team have really enjoyed producing this first edition of
TECS world and hope you as readers have had just as much enjoyment
exploring its contents and finding out all the great things TECS students
have been doing this trimester.
