Brady Blasdel, Pastor Lou Branzuela, Music Director Every Member of Faith Lutheran An Active Member of the Body of Christ WORSHIPERS MAY STAND WORSHIPERS MAY SIT Faith Lutheran Church Cuidando a otros como Jesus cuida de nosotros “Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.” Matthew 28:1 2 As We Gather Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! Just as the first colorful rays of dawn were streaking the morning sky, some of Jesus’ dear friends were on the way to His tomb. Their eyes didn’t notice the beauty of the new day; their hearts were black with sorrow. Suddenly, an angel in a white robe rolled back the stone and sat on it. His news exploded with joy in their hearts: “He is not here! He has risen, just as He said.” Today we also rejoice in the new colors of light and life that the Resurrection brings into our lives, as well. Join us as we journey from the blackness of that first Easter morning to celebrate the dawning of a colorful new day for God’s people, now and for all eternity! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! For Children We strongly encourage our younger guests and members to join us as we learn and praise God together in worship. We invite parents with younger children to sit near the front for better view. We also have excellent children’s worship supplies in bags near the entrance; larger bags are for older youth, while the smaller bags are for younger children. And, as always, parents & guardians may take any child age 0-5 to our nursery for loving, professional care. Quiet Please So that we all might worship God in quiet and reverence, we invite you to silence all cell phones and electronic devices. WORSHIP 3 EASTER GOSPEL (Part 1) Matthew 27:62–28:6 (NIV) ... After Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard. After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen! EASTER CELEBRATION P Christ is risen! P Even in our Easter joy, we confess before our gracious God our failings and sin. C Lord God, we acknowledge and confess that we have sinned and that our lives are not always what they should be. Our sin leads to guilt that destroys our joy. Our selfcenteredness leaves us feeling empty and alone, without the peace of Your presence. Forgive us, Lord, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord. (A time of silent confession) P People of God, the Christ who died for you is risen. His death and resurrection have conquered our enemies of sin and death. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen! Alleluia! Amen! Easter Greeting As you greet friends and family members on this very special day, consider greeting them with this ancient Easter greeting that proclaims the resurrection of Christ. Greeting: “Christ is risen!” Response: “He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” uMusical Offering... . Crown Him with Many Crowns Fanfare EASTER RESPONSE P Christ is risen! C He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! CHOIR Words of Welcome CHILDREN’S MESSAGE.................................... “Resurrection Eggs“ EASTER GOSPEL (Part 2) Matthew 28:5-15 (NIV) ... The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. 8 “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. pAPOSTLES’ CREED A I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. uMESSAGE..........................................................“Proof Positive” 9 Offering To our guests today: the offerings we give are for the support of our congregation’s ministries as well as mission work through our District and Synod and other special mission projects. LSB 179 A Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 INVITATION TO HOLY COMMUNION P. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song C and He has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:4 10 11 P. Thanks and praise to You, heavenly Father, for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord; for He is the very Passover Lamb who was offered for us and has taken away the sins of the world. By His death, He has destroyed death, and by His rising to life again, He has restored us to everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your holy name, singing: SONG OF PREPARATION.................... Holy Are You Tune of LSB 475 HOLY are you, the heav’nly King! With angel hosts we join to sing, “Your majesty fills ev’rything! ” Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Words of Institution................................................... LSB 179 P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take eat; this is my body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of me. In the same way also he took the cup after supper, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 1 Cor 11:23-25 The peace of the Lord be with you always. C And also with you. John 20:19 SONG OF PREPARATION.................... Holy Are You Tune of LSB 475 HOLY are you, the heav’nly King! With angel hosts we join to sing, “Your majesty fills ev’rything! ” Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! uTO OUR GUESTS & VISITORS The Lord’s Supper is joyfully received here today. At the altar, our Lord Jesus Christ delivers His true body and blood into our mouths. His gift of body and blood, given in, with, and under the bread and wine, bestows tremendous benefits. His body and blood pledges that forgiveness of sin is ours, strengthens our faith, binds us to the Lord, and unites us with each other. In this is life and salvation. All members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod have publicly confessed this sacred gift and its blessings and so are encouraged to commune. In order to prepare for the Sacrament, you may consider turning to page 326 in the front of the hymnal. DISTRIBUTION OF THE SACRAMENT (to those prepared) When we receive Holy Communion, and the host (consecrated unleavened bread) is offered to you, the Pastor will place it on your tongue unless you offer your open hand, palm upward, to receive it. Either way is acceptable. SongS for Distribution Majesty...................................................................
