Flower Power was a slogan used by hippies during the late
1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of the non-violence ideology.
It is rooted in opposition to the Vietnam War. The hippy culture.
They dressed in flowery clothing and wore flowers in their
hair. It has since been used in many places when referring
to the sixties, including countless films, TV programs and
documentaries. The “meeting place” for the Flower Power
movement was based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in a
club called Paradiso. The hippies chose this club because of
the name paradiso, which reminded them of a peaceful place,
paradise. Artists such as Yoko Ono have since been performing
there on occasional visits.

A simple reminder to give a breast self-exam could save a life.
SELF-EXAMINATION OF YOUR BREAST
Step 1: Lying Down
Feel for a hard lump, thickening or any change in your breast tissue.
RT WOMEN
• Lie down on your back with a pillow under your right shoulder
• Use the pads of the three middle fingers on your left hand to examine your right
breast
• Press using light, medium and firm pressure in a circular motion
• Follow an up-and-down pattern over the surface of your breast
• Feel for changes in your breast, above and below your collarbone and in your
armpit area
• Repeat on your left breast using your right hand
Step 2: In Front of the mirror
Look for changes in the shape, size or appearance of your breasts.
Look for dimpling, a rash or puckering of the skin or nipple, nipple discharge or
any change from normal.
Inspect your breasts in four steps:
• Hold arms at your sides
• Hold arms over your head
• Press your hands on your hips to tighten your chest muscles
• Bend forward with your hands on your hips

we forget to recognize our stars. We
assume they know we appreciate
them, but the benefits from regularly
telling them are immeasurable.
Sometimes even telling a mediocre
employee she’s doing a particular job
well makes her to want to improve the
rest of her job.

her work made you happy. In some cases, it could be that the tech finished
something in record time, organizing the stock room, cleaning the retail area,
designing a new pedicure service and still doing an outstanding job on her
clients’ nails.

Show employees you feel confident in your decision to work with them. Building
and maintaining a strong team is a large part of your job. When you recognize
your staff’s contributions to your company’s success, team members feel
welcome and valued. When a new employee reaches her comfort level, she’ll be

Again, tell your employees they’re important to you. Show how the success of
your salon directly relates to your employees’ efforts. This also demonstrates
that you recognize their contribution.

To keep employees motivated about their jobs as well as the industry, provide
them with tools that will help them perform better.

A person is usually conscious of the fact she has a positive attitude, but letting her
know you appreciate her attitude will keep her positive. When a stressful situation
happens during the day, a nail tech with a positive attitude bounces back from the
situation in a much shorter period of time than a co-worker with a negative outlook.

Sometimes your staff may have real problems that hamper their performance.
Often, employees are reluctant to report these problems to you since they think
it makes them sound lazy or negative. Try opening the door to these issues.
Creating an environment where everyone feels free to identify problems and
potential solutions really fosters motivation. You don’t have to solve every
problem, and you don’t have to play favourites. Just listening is often good
enough.

What supplies or equipment do you need to do your job better?”
Make sure employees have the right tools to get the job done. Go beyond the
tools of the trade and see if perhaps better lighting or updated scheduling
software would be appropriate for your location. Seek everyone’s input.
How about lunch? On me.”
Every now and then treat someone who does a good job to lunch. Try taking
each person to lunch at least once a year. Even if you have nail techs who have
only average technique, look for something good in their performance to reward.
But don’t use the treat as an opportunity to discuss ways they could improve or
to identify what they’re doing wrong. The lunch treat is a reward and is a means
of positive reinforcement.

Would you be interested in going to the Beauty & Nail Show this
year for me? Something’s come up and I won’t be able to go, but I’d like
somebody from our team to be there.”
Giving employees opportunities like this indicates you have a great deal of trust
in them and you think highly of them. It’s also a fantastic way for them to keep
abreast of what is going on in the industry. Of course, in this situation let the
tech know ahead of time you expect a full report on everything at the show,
seminars, new products and exhibitors.

Involve employees in decision-making opportunities. You’re not necessarily
asking them to make the final decision, but you’re indicating how important
their input is on the matter. This involvement should also encourage them to be
more interested in the salon and its success. Listen to your nail techs’ opinions.
Your staff is often responsible for implementing new ideas or policies.

Be specific in your praise. Sometimes your employees think that you don’t
see what they have to deal with. If you witness an irate client being handled
in a way that soothes the client and ensures she’ll return, let everyone know
— not simply the person resolving the issue. Praising one person motivates her.

People tend to repeat positively recognized behaviours. Telling a nail tech her
set of nails is polished, excellent or superb will encourage her to create great
nails almost every time.

Recognition programs, whether they’re yearly, monthly or weekly, inherently
force you to publicly acknowledge good performance. Use these well and always
seek to improve them. They should be sincere and adhere to specific measures
of performance. In other words, don’t just pay lip service to your recognition
programs. Be sincere with your accolades.
I’ve budgeted $100 this year for you to subscribe to any publications
you think will help you in your work.”

them. Remember to also pass along positive comments about the salon as a

a client encompasses that client’s feelings about everyone she’s been in contact
with in your salon. So be sure to tell everyone who worked with her.

This probably is the most lasting of the positive statements you can make to
people in your salon. They’ll tell their friends and family about your kind words
and always remember them. Make your staff feel proud they’ve chosen to
work with you. Giving positive reinforcement isn’t easy. If you don’t normally
use words to motivate employees, it may feel awkward and, to you, it may
even sound insincere. But your words of praise could mean the world to
your employees. Showing consideration and telling your staff you appreciate
them is your job. Experienced managers know that positive reinforcement
soon becomes easy and ultimately becomes part of their vast repertoire of
managerial tools.

ACRYLIC FLOWER & CO ART
Due to the degree of difficulty of these techniques this theme has been spread over
3 Half Days:
Day 1 Has been set aside as a discovery day for those who have never applied any
acrylic on nails before. After this day they will easily be able to take part in the
following 2 days.
Day 2 This day offers the established expert the opportunity to learn the first steps
of Acrylic Nail Art. After practising at home she will also be able to work on her
customers.
Day 3 This last day is the finishing day for techniques, but with some extra refinement
techniques. Unanswered questions are solved, because the final results have to
respond to the stylist’s and the customer’s wishes.

Theme days only require half a day of

Theme days are cheap.
The price of a theme day varies between € 35 and € 50, depending on the
material at your disposal or not. After
your subscription you will be informed
about the extra materials that will be
needed during your session.

Do I have to bring a model during my
theme day?
You do not have to bring a model (except for UV gel on forms, manicure
and pedicure). Your distributor will inform you accordingly.
When and how often to subscribe?
As theme days are much in demand
their themes are often repeated in 6monthly periods. Find out the number
of days per theme, but do subscribe
long in advance as places are limited.
We will ask you to pay your participation fee as confirmation. Only prepaid
subscriptions are considered as valid
subscriptions. Cancellations are accepted on a 48h advanced notice. Your
subscription will always be reconfirmed.

Can I book several times for the same
theme day?
Nothing keeps you from participating
in the same theme day several times.
It often happens that people want to
refresh their knowledge after some
months or a year. The creations of one
group of people are always different
to those of other groups. And you can
always learn from people other than a
teacher.
Do I have to prepare myself for a
theme day?
As a theme day only lasts a few hours,
it is advisable both for the quality of
your lesson and for that of others that
you arrive well before the start of the
theme day. Always bring your basic
materials to avoid having to buy materials you already have. Your teacher
prepares your theme day with care.
She will prepare examples which she
will explain to you. It is very important
that during this lesson you only follow
scrupulously her steps and style and
that you do not change this. You may
do this at home or under supervision
during a subsequent session.
