Free Breakfast for All
Students Every Day
Studies have proven that students who consume
a nutritious breakfast are more attentive and receptive
to learning than those who do not eat breakfast before
starting the school day. The District has surveyed students
and developed a new tasty and nutritious breakfast menu
that is free for every student, make sure your student takes
advantage. Food and Nutrition Services will continue to offer
breakfast “free of charge” to all students for the 2014-2015
school year.
February 22-28, 2015 is
National Eating Disorders
Awareness Week
NEDA educates and screens for eating disorders and
connects those at-risk with local resources. Many people
struggle with the way they look or how they feel about their
bodies, with one out of three normal dieters progressing
to pathological dieting. In the United States, as many as 10
million females and 1 million males are fighting a life and
death battle with an eating disorder, which has one of the
highest mortality rates of any mental illness.
Visit nedawareness.org to learn more about prevention
and intervention.
Free, online screening for eating disorders available at

Theater in the News
The 2015 ICHS musical has finally been announced. Island Coast
will perform the newest hit from London, LOSERVILLE! Despite
the deceptive title, last year’s High School Musical Theatre Award
best overall WINNERS are already starting to prepare for another
spectacular year. Put the show dates on your calendar and get ready
to enjoy a fun, upbeat, hilarious, and visually beautiful show for the
whole family! Show dates: April 16, 17, and 18.
Parent Involvement
January is Report Card Time
Soon your child will receive a report card. This mid-year
report is a good time for you and your child to set goals for the
rest of the year.
Report card time can also cause worry for children and parents
alike. Kids may worry that they aren’t living up to your expectations
and parents may feel they’re not being a good parent.
Here’s how you can make it positive:
• Prepare your child and yourself by asking him what he thinks
the report card will tell. Getting ready is helpful.
• Remember that a report card is only one small measure of your
child. Find something to praise and then focus on areas that
can be improved.
• Think of the report card as a chance to take positive action for
the rest of the year. Set goals and ask how you can help.
Praising and encouraging your child during report card time will
help to ease worry. Setting schoolwork goals for the rest of the year
lets your child know that you are there to help.

YOUTH ALIVE! Is a faith-based,
student led, group of students that meet
at school. Ms. Meyer and Mr. Sunnarborg
are the sponsors. Students get together
to share everyday issues or concerns.
It’s a great way to make new and caring
friends. We also have Youth Pastors from
local churches come to speak. Our aim
is to empower every student to live the
best life possible at high school. Always
yummy snacks and music! See Ms. Meyer
in Art Room 93 for more information.
The History Department is
celebrating the contributions of
Martin Luther King this month.
Renaissance
This year ICHS is excited to become a Renaissance School. We
will be highlighting those students who are top-notch and stellar in
the areas of academics, attendance, and attitude, along with those
students who make gains in these areas. Staffulty, as we refer to the
entire staff and faculty of the building because we work as one unit
to educate the students, will also be rewarded and recognized. If
you have something positive to share about a teacher, administrator,
custodian, cafeteria, or any other adult on campus or student please
send it to Denise McCarthy at [email protected].

Out of Field Teachers
Florida State Statute 102.42 recognizes that teachers at times must be assigned duties
in a class outside their field in which they are identified. In addition, the following teachers
are engaged in training to add Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to their certifications:
Carmen Hayse, Clint Montgomery, Jessica Reimer, and Jessica Carvalho.
