Extinguisher
An environmentally friendly
portable fire extinguisher with
no compromise on performance
Fire extinguishers have been developed and produced in
Neuruppin for over one hundred years; fire extinguishers that have
continually raised the bar in the portables industry in over thirty
countries.
Here the already heavily reduced fluorine content was reduced by
another 20% and only C6 fluorosurfactants were used, which do
not exhibit the same damaging effects as the previously common
C8 fluorosurfactants.
The use of foam-based extinguishing agents in fire extinguishers
demands a delicate balance of efficacy though consistent and
reliable performance, as well as environmental responsibility
when discharge of the extinguisher is required.
Not only does this improve the extinguishing performance, it
minimises the subsequent environmental impact.
There remains no like for like alternative to the use of
fluorosurfactants for achieving the high extinguishing
performance of AFFF, but chemicals in this group can cause
problems for health and the environment.
In 2009, we voluntarily began to demand that our foam
extinguishers meet new and more stringent environmental
standards and applied for the MILIEUKEUR certificate issued
by the independent and internationally recognised Dutch
Keurmerkinstituut for a new generation of foam extinguishers;
after a number of special product tests examining their
environmental impact, we received the certificate. Our S 6 DN
eco and S 9 DN eco have since borne the “MILIEUKEUR” seal of
quality.
Over the past two years, these two products have been further
developed and the MILIEUKEUR-certified range expanded to
include cartridge-operated and stored pressure extinguishers.
TOTAL foam extinguishers deliver another major
improvement portable extinguishing performance,
