Le beat bespoké 6 - Le Bands
The Sonics
James Hunter
Thee Vicars
We are very pleased to welcome back to LBB6 the
mighty SONICS. What else can you write that has
not already been said about this legendary and
pioneering band that cross all boundaries and
genres of music, in fact they invented some of them!
Their influence stretches far and wide and includes
such luminaries as The Hives, the Stooges, White
Stripes, Nirvana, Mud Honey and The Cramps. A
triumphant return in late 2007 at Cavesomp in New
York City, was quickly followed in early 2008 with
two sell out shows at Le Beat Bespoké 4 in London.
It was first the ever performance outside their
native USA, since then the Sonics have gone on to
perform sell out shows across Europe and the USA
with the band in their best form since they got back
together. Come and witness them play classics:
The Witch, Psycho, Have Love Will Travel, Strychnine,
Shot Down, Boss Hoss, Cinderella and lots more.
We are thrilled to have the very special and very
British James Hunter, who possesses a ”tight,
slithery soul groove” and a “sweet growl” (NY
Times) live at LBB6. His new LP ‘The Hard Way’ is
the second collaboration with Liam Watson (also
producer of The White Stripes ‘Elephant’) at famed
analogue haven Toe Rag Studios in London. After
2006 album ‘People Gonna Talk’ was nominated for
a Grammy award after reaching Number 1 on the
Billboard Blues Chart; Hunter has enjoyed both
National and International TV slots. ‘People Gonna
Talk’ not only earned him critical acclaim, but also
garnered a huge, loyal, growing fan-base. James
has toured and opened for legends Van Morrison,
Etta James, Boz Scaggs, Los Lonely Boys, Robert
Cray, Bryan Adams, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson, Buddy
Guy, and even the Queen of Soul herself, Miss
Aretha Franklin. Rolling Stone exudes James Hunter
is “A treat not to miss” and recently quoted: ‘The
Hard Way’ as “Unbelievably awesome!” It’s no
surprise the new album debuted in America on June
10th, 2008 and promptly zoomed to Number 1 once
more on the Billboard Blues Chart where it remained
there six solid weeks in a row!
Thee Vicars are four individuals from the UK who
have a taste for loud, raw and wild sounds. Playing
their own unique brand of fine garage and RnB
music, Thee Vicars are here to preach about genuine
real music - which seems to have gone missing in
these dark days of the music industry. You can hear
echoes of the early Stones here, as well as of more
contemporary outfits such as The Hives, and there is
something in Whittakers’ snarling vocals that
reminds us of Pete Shelley (actually, Buzzcocks
presented them with a best punk/ska act gong at
the 2008 Indy Music awards). Buy the great new
album ‘Psychotic Beat’ on Dirty Water Records.
Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!!
David Peter & The Wild Sect
From Valencia in Spain, comes the most amazing
‘Nuggets’ style band authentically out of control.
Way Y Los Arrrghs play 60's Garage Punk as REAL
as it gets with a mix of their own songs plus wild
covers of The Trashmen, Kenny and the Kasuals,
Los Saicos, We The People and more in a fab and
uniquely Spanish feel, with even some of the Lyrics
changed to poke fun in a TWISTED manic way!!!
Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!! Will make their eagerly
awaited UK debut on Saturday night at LBB6 and
have earned the reputation as a must see live show
with their raucous sound and chaotic stage antics.
David Peter & The Wilde Sect come fresh out of the
Copenhagen underground; their mission, to teach
the youngsters of today about music with a SOUL a very desperate teenage soul that is! David Peter
and the boys are tired of the pop charts, and tired
of the mis-use of words such as r&b, beat and
ravers of today. With a love for danish beat and
'pigtråd', these four boys bring it down to a very
raw and energetic act, that will make you genuinely
dance and shout!
The Undertones
Formed in Derry, Northern Ireland 1975 with
influences from 60’s Pop, Punk and American
Garage rock. The band sent a letter with a demo to
legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel who wrote back
offering to fund them to record in Belfast. On 16
June 1978, the band recorded their debut four-song
EP "Teenage Kicks" on a budget of only £200. The
title song became a hit with support from John Peel,
who considered Teenage Kicks his fave song, an
opinion he held of the song until his death in 2004.
Two more hugely successful LPs followed along with
a number of hit singles and UK, European and
American tours. The Undertones reformed in 1999
and have since played prestigious gigs including
Glastonbury and Celtic Park in the UEFA Champions
League play-off between Celtic & Arsenal in August,
2009. After 5 years of asking we are thrilled to
finally have The Undertones play LBB6.
The Polecats
The Polecats were key in the early 80’s British
rockabilly revival scene, Tim Polecat and Boz Boorer
started playing together in 1976, they hooked up
with Phil Bloomberg at the end of 1977. They scored
3 UK Top 40 singles with "John, I'm Only Dancing" (a
Bowie cover), "Rockabilly Guy" "Jeepster" (a Bolan
cover). Their 1981 debut LP "Polecats Are Go!"
(Produced by Dave Edmunds) is a must!

Thee Exciters
They’ve been compared to The White Stripes and
The Hives but I think The Stooges would be more
appropriate! Thee Exciters supercede their name
and deliver jumped up rock that strangles you to
pay attention with a smile on your face. Lead singer
‘Brocky’ likes his music stripped down just like his
wild stage antics. Expect top notch garage rock
choons and an unpredictable stage show.
Thee Exciters are the REAL rock‘n’roll deal.
