HISTORY
To better serve our community’s needs, Iron County General Hospital and Crystal Falls Community
Hospital were merged into Iron County Community Hospital in 1996. Today, our organization has
further expanded its services, acquiring the county ambulance service, opening physician clinics,
providing new services, and remodeling the main hospital campus. To better reflect this growth
and commitment to community, we became NORTHSTAR Health System in 2009.
Situated in the beautiful northwoods, NORTHSTAR Health System is a non-profit organization serving
the needs of the South Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. NORTHSTAR
includes a 25-bed critical access hospital, outpatient primary and specialty care clinics in Iron River
and Crystal Falls, home health and hospice services. The system employs more than 300
professionals from the community, and includes more than 80 credentialed physicians and mid-level
providers across a wide range of health care specialties.
Our private hospital patient rooms overlook Ice Lake, bringing the holistic healing power of nature to
the patient’s side. Studies have proven this to shorten recovery times.

Statement
NORTHSTAR Health System is a community-owned, not-for-profit organization responsible
for the physical and emotional health of people living in the South Central Upper
Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. Directly, and in general partnership with
communities, employers, schools, and government officials, as well as select partnerships
with other health care providers, we guide individuals and families in their lifelong journey
toward optimal health. We are committed to providing high quality, reliable,
cost-effective, total health solutions with respect and compassion. Our innovative efforts
will positively impact health care delivery in our service area.
