Maree Caplin
Having a background in garment design and construction has enabled me to be a very versatile artist.
Unintentionally I have specialized in portraying nature scenes with an emphasis on foliage, fur, feathers and
fins! This is a reflection of my love for all things wild and natural. I use free motion techniques such as thread
painting, collage appliqué, and photographic fabric in my work. All embroidery is done free motion (hand
guided) on a machine. I share my studio with a menagerie of dogs and cats who lovingly accept my mental
lapses when I have journeyed to that inner creative place where I work out how to recreate that animal,
plant or place, with fabric or thread.

Wendy Whellum
I have been a crafts-person since the age of 5. About 25 years ago I discovered patchwork and quilting, and
that has been my main creative outlet since. My main interest is in handmade quilts, and the reproduction of
vintage or antique styles, with a little uplift in colour and arrangement. My quilts have featured in Australian
quilting magazines, scoring front cover on a number of occasions, and have been awarded prizes at quilt
shows. I have been teaching for the past 10 years at local quilt shops around Australia, quilting retreats,
and quilters Guilds. My focus is on hand applique, using back-basting whereby no templates are used, no
freezer paper, and no glue and teaching hand piecing, using templates, and “no knot” start and finish, and
continuous piecing.

Have you always admired the Lone Star quilt, and longed to make one?
