Fall 2014 - Mack Services Group
Fall Fun
Just because the summer has
come to a close doesn’t mean
you should shut yourself inside
until next spring! Getting outside
and staying active is important,
especially for youngsters whose
bodies are still developing, so
here are a few fun, safe outdoor
activities that the whole family can
enjoy this autumn.
 Paoli Blues Festival and Street Fair
The event takes place October 4 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Paoli Village
Shoppes. Attendance is free with the donation of one non-perishable food
item for the Chester County Food Bank. In addition to some great live
music, there will be kids’ activities, delicious food, street performers and a
whole lot more.
 Go pumpkin and apple picking
Linvilla Orchards is located just outside of Media and open for picking
from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. While there, see if you can pick up some fresh sweet
potatoes for the recipe on page 3.
 Rotorfest All Helicopter Air Show
Billed as the only all-helicopter air show in the country, Rotorfest takes
flight at the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, October
11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The days’ events include flight
demonstrations, a parachute team, helicopter rides, amusement rides,
music and more family fun.
 Have a football catch
You don’t have to be a diehard football fan to enjoy tossing around the
pigskin in the backyard. It’s a great bonding activity too. Go long!
 Kennett Square’s Halloween Parade
The annual parade is scheduled for Sunday, October 26 at 3 p.m. in
Downtown Historic Kennett Square. Children are invited to trick-or-treat in
the downtown area and visit a spooky haunted house at the Brick Garage
at State and Walnut Streets.
 Go for a nature walk
Natural Land Trust manages 15 fully accessible nature preserves in eastern
Pennsylvania, including Sharp’s Wood Preserve in Berwyn and the 200-acre
Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary in Easton. For a full list, visit www.natlands.org.

A Message from All of Us
Loyalty Pays
Hello and welcome to another edition of the Mack Bulletin. In the past few issues, we’ve been
telling our readers over and over to keep an eye out for the Mack Customer Loyalty Program. Many
of you must’ve been reading closely because since the program rolled out on May 1, the response
we’ve received has been nothing short of amazing!
On launch day, two longtime customers traded in 2,775 points each for a 15% discount on their
Heating Service Agreement. Since then, two others have done the same, one customer got 15% off a Heating & Cooling Service
Agreement, another received 15% off a Heat Pump Service Agreement, and two more traded in 2,500 points each for a $25 Pacific
Pride Fueling Card. Still more customers are racking up their Mack Loyalty Points until they can cash in for even bigger savings, like
$400 off new Oil Equipment (40,000 points) or a $300 Mack Services Credit to be used any way they like (30,000 points). No
matter how you use the program, whether you decide to trade in points as soon as you can or let them accumulate over time, your loyalty
pays.
There are many great rewards available, so if you haven’t already signed up for the Mack Customer Loyalty Program, please visit
mackservicesgroup.com and click on the link. It’s totally free, there’s no commitment attached, and absolutely nothing to lose. Plus,
you already pay for fuel and home comfort services, so why not get something extra in return? With the Mack Customer Loyalty Program,
you earn one Mack Loyalty point for every dollar you spend, and there is no limit to the amount of points you can accumulate or
redeem. Just imagine …
Mack
Just as your loyalty to The Mack Services Group pays in discounted products
and services, your loyalty to your heating system pays in improved comfort and
energy savings. Read about the warning signs that indicate it’s time to have your
heating equipment serviced or replaced on page 2 and be sure to check out the
seasonal savings on page 3 as well. You’ll also learn more about our services on
page 3 and find some “Fall Fun” on page 4, so read on. Your loyalty pays off with
the advice on these pages, and your loyalty points are here to help, as are we.

Are You "Up"
for Another Winter?
the tale of the
haunted heater
It creeks, it shudders, it howls in the night … it’s …
your furnace?
Temperatures can drop quickly in October, so
it’s during this month that many Pennsylvania
homeowners begin turning up their thermostats
before they go to sleep. Of course, October is also
commonly associated with ghouls, ghosts and goblins
of all sorts, but an old furnace that hasn’t been
serviced in a while can haunt you much worse than
them. That’s why you should have a heating tuneup performed at least once a year, and if you hear
any of these sounds, call The Mack Services Group to
schedule a service appointment:
Last winter was a tough one, with record-low
temperatures in January and record-high snowfalls
in February, so the question on everyone’s mind
now is "what’s in store for the coming months?”
Not even meteorologists can be sure, but fortunately
there is a way to ensure that you, your family and
your home will be up for whatever the winter has
to offer — it's a heating equipment upgrade.
In addition to reducing your heating costs and
your home’s carbon footprint, a heating equipment
upgrade offers the following assurances, each of
which will help you rest easy:
1. Y
ou will get the exact temperature you want
exactly where and when you want it.
2. You and your loved ones will be protected
from extreme cold.
3. You will enjoy extra-comforting peace of mind,
knowing that your new heating equipment is
covered by the manufacturer warranty.
4. You will get money back through generous
manufacturer rebates.
5. You will not have to worry about needing
repeated service calls, because our NORAtrained, NATE-certified service technicians
get the job done right the first time.
•S

problem with the furnace’s motor.

serious.
• Clanging: probably a problem with the pipes
caused by the contraction that occurs when the
furnace turns off.
• Loud boom or thud: could be a simple duct issue, or it could be a defective
valve, which can cause a delayed ignition.
• Odd vibrating or whining: might be something very serious; have it checked
out immediately.
• Clunking or bumping: indicates a cracked belt.
• Creeks, shudders and howls: it’s a ghost – RUN! (Just kidding … or are we?!)
Picture this: you’re sound asleep, drifting peacefully through dreams, when suddenly
you’re stirred from your slumber by a loud, harsh noise coming from your basement.
Most of us have been there before, but now at least you’ll know what’s haunting
you and who you can call for help.
Who you gonna call?

Roasted Sweet Potato
Rounds with Garlic Oil
and Fried Sage
Thanksgiving is a proud tradition and one
that all of our inner-foodies love to honor,
but even the hungriest among us can
tire of eating the same thing year after
year after year. With that in mind, here's
something with ingredients that everyone
will recognize but a taste that's new and
exciting yet still in keeping with tradition.
Ingredients
(Makes eight servings)
For sweet potatoes
3 large garlic cloves
¼ cup olive oil
2½ pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and
sliced into half-inch-thick rounds
For fried sage
¹⁄³ cup olive oil
24 sage leaves
PREPARATIONS
1. Preheat oven to 450ºF with rack in
upper third.
2. Purée garlic with ¼ cup olive oil and ¾
teaspoon salt in a blender until smooth.
3. Toss sweet potatoes with garlic in a
large bowl, then spread in one layer
across a 15"x10" shallow baking pan.
4. Bake until golden in patches and
cooked through (20 to 30 minutes).
5. Heat ¼ cup oil in a small heavy skillet
over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
6. Fry sage leaves in two batches, stirring,
until crisp (30 seconds to 1 minute per
batch).
7. Transfer with a slotted spoon to paper
towels to drain.
8. Scatter sage leaves atop sweet potatoes
and serve.
