COMMODORE’S
REPORT
CHRIS COLTHURST
Hello My Fellow Members,
Our Harbour Opening weekend events were very well attended. Unfortunately
the weather kept the boats in the harbour but the Flags and Fr. Stan made
the rounds and all boats were Blessed. Hopefully we have a long safe season
filled with good weather and good memories.
In June the Club hosted a couple of Yacht Clubs. On Thursday the 9th
Commodore Maria Gomer brought a group of 54 members from Leamington
Yacht Club and came in for dinner. Chef served up some fantastic meals and
Laura and her staff made sure that all were well taken care of. I heard many
compliments regarding the food and service. On Friday the 10th Mary and I
joined Commodore Andrea Solak and 26 members from Grosse Pointe Sail
Club for drinks and dinner. Again our staff did a great job of taking care of us.
Mary and I had a very enjoyable evening showing off our amazing Clubhouse
and Harbour. Several boats docked overnight while others anchored off Peche
Island. Everyone had nothing but good things to say about their experience
and many are looking forward to coming back during the summer.
It is hard not to boast and be proud of such a great Club. Sending out a
heartfelt thanks to all our Members. Your forward thinking and friendliness
have made the WYC the best Club on the Great Lakes.
The 44th annual Canadian Club race took place on the 17th. George
McMahon and the race committee do a tremendous job throughout the year
running our Wednesday night racing series. They put in a lot of work into
organizing the CC Race. It was another great event that was enjoyed by the
participants as well as all the Members who enjoyed watching the parade of
the boats sailing past our patio. Awesome job by all involved!
On a side note, Management, the Flags and our House Chairman have
reviewed our license. No alcohol can be removed from the Club or our
licensed patio area. Conversely no outside alcohol can be brought into the
Club or onto our patio area. This rule must be obeyed. Fail to do so can result
in the loss of our license! Please be cognizant of this and remind your guests
to be aware of this also. While on the topic of “the law”, the city noise by-law
states that 11 pm is the cutoff time for excessive noise. Please be conscious
of our neighbors and your fellow boaters and turn down the tunes after 11pm.
Thank you for your co-operation on these items.
As always I look forward to WYC’ing you at the Club.
Respectfully submitted,
Commodore Chris H. Colthurst

DAN CASTER
June was an incredible month at the Club and the activity has been great!
Our harbour opening weekend was a huge success with a packed house
Friday and Saturday. Our Big Wiggle party was packed with Members wall
to wall and the patio was just as full. It's so wonderful to see everyone
enjoying their Club.
The Blessing of the Fleet was well attended and unfortunately the weather
did not co-operate. We could not do our traditional sail pass the Club and
the boats were blessed in the harbour. Thank you to Father Stan for all his
efforts and leading us in this event.
We officially dedicated our new harbour and again I would like to thank
Past Commodore Randy Moir for all of his efforts and hours of work in
this past year.
Our pool has been used by many Members, and it's a great summer to sit
by our pool and enjoy a few hours of down time with your friends. Please
remember there are rules placed on us by the Board of Health and we
cannot allow food in the pool area. The new Shanty town is a great place
to enjoy a meal from the Club while using the pool.
With Shanty town near completion I want to say thank you to all that were
involved! Especially Marty Gaudet who did the framing. Thank you!
4
Shanty town was built with donations from many Members and some
money from our Capital budget and it has turned out better than most
expected. This project was built with the goodwill of many Members and
we should all be proud of what we can do when we work together.
After the structure was built, I was approached by a few Members and
they asked me what else they could do to help. I told them I would really
like some new furniture and BBQ's. They asked me for a list and at our
next Saturday lunch I showed it to them. Within a few minutes, I had a
Member say he would like to donate a BBQ. These BBQ's were $1000
each and it was amazing at the shear generosity. I left the Club and while
driving not 1 hour later I received a call from the same Member and he
wanted to donate the other one as well. He wanted them to match and
look as nice as the new Shanty Town. I want to thank this Member but he
has asked me not to use his name. He said he did it because he loved
the Club and not for the recognition. WOW I was speechless! Thank you
from all of us!
During the same lunch meeting other Members stepped up and donated
to the new furniture. Within one hour Shanty town had all new furniture
and new BBQ's. It was a very rewarding feeling to see everyone step
forward and help. Thank you to Brian Ducharme, Father Stan Fraser, Dan
Lambden, Dr. John Pepin and Richard Haller.
I would also like to thank some another Members for all of his help in
the new harbour and Shanty town. Terry Orr donated many truckloads of
gravel and hauled away countless truckloads of debris. Terry was always
there when we needed him. Another Member that was very supportive
was Phil Morand. Phil would donate the use of his equipment as well
as drop it off and pick it up. Thank you to both Terry and Phil, as newer
Members you truly show the spirit of the Windsor Yacht Club.
I have to cut this report short as I am late as usual sending it to Ruth and
she only saved me one page.
In my next report I will continue to thank all that helped in our harbour and
Shanty Town as well as many of our volunteers that do so much for the
Club.

HOUSE REPORT
P/C ROBERT TROUP
Summer is here and the Club is ready for a great summer season.
I would to like commence by thanking all of the staff for a grand job for
our Harbour Opening Dedication and Blessing of the Fleet weekend. It
was certainly a barn burner!
It has taken a while, but I can report that all of the projects that were
started in the winter and spring have been completed. The Club is freshly
painted; all of the wood accents and wainscoting have been completed.
The new chairs arrived in time for the big weekend and the old chairs were
retired.
A new menu was rolled out last month which has been well received by
the Members; along with all of the other changes the staff are now in their
new uniforms for the summer.
Thank you to P/C Chris Hutchinson for arranging the new stain glass
inserts in the bar and dining room area. Next time you visit you will notice
that we have moved some of stained glass on to the partition between the
bar and spinnaker rooms. This now has opened up 5 new spaces to have
your vessel featured in stained glass in the Club; there are applications in
my file at the Club or contact P/C Chris directly.
Sadly to report, that our communication system died over the Blessing
weekend! We all knew it was on its last legs over the last few months. It
was certainly embarrassing asking anyone to use the system as it was.
Due to the large amount of events booked at the Club and the upcoming
Canadian Club Race the board approved the emergency expense of
replacing the complete system in time for the CC Race.
The house committee encourages the Members to provide your feedback
to the management on any issues that you may have while visiting the
Club.
Lastly the WYC board and staff of the Club remind all of the Members
and their guests that it is strictly against the law to remove and or bring
alcohol into the licensed areas of the Club. Please respect this AGCO law
as it is not worth the fine and the loss of our license to serve the Members.
Have a great summer.

FLEET CAPTAIN'S
REPORT
TOM WEBER
As you read this report, “Tomfoolery” is likely somewhere along the St
Clair River enjoying our first week-long fleet cruise of the season. From
the comments that I’ve been hearing, most Members seem to be enjoying
the boating season so far so let’s hope the weather keeps co-operating.
At this time, you should be finalizing all of your plans for the remainder of
the boating season. As a reminder, our entire fleet cruise schedule ( along
with names of those participating ) can be found on the WYC website.
Simply log in to the site then click on the “Fleet Cruise Information” tab
which is found under the “Boating/Harbour” heading at the top of the
home page.
Full instructions for booking are included on the website. Please note that
some harbors require you to make reservations directly. At this point in
time, for the remainder of the destinations, if you don’t see your name on
the list of participants, you should contact me immediately to have your
name added if you intend to come along with us. As stated last month,
boating is becoming very popular again and last minute reservations just
may not cut it this year.
For those of you that don’t have the luxury of boat ownership, you can
still participate in most of our destinations. Some Clubs have nearby
hotels, while places like Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay have hotels within
easy proximity to the harbor. You can actually bring your car with you to
Put-In-Bay on the ferry, but once again pre-planning and reservations are
a must.
You can contact me at [email protected] or by phone / text at
519-526-4849 with any questions that you may have.
Bon Voyage !

CHILDREN’S FISHING DERBY
THANK YOU!
Our annual WYC Childen’s Fishing Derby was held on Saturday, May 28
with forty children participating. Although the sun decided to show up in
abundance, the same couldn’t be said for the fish!
Good thing the kids know how to have fun anyway – and it was great fun
for the grown-ups to watch.
Special thanks to the Caster sisters for their assistance in measuring
the fish, Al’s Bait’s for providing the minnows and worms, along with
Commodore Colthurst and P/C Blondin for their invaluable organizational
skills.
Once again this year, we were able to waive the entry fees for the
tournament as well as the cost of the lunch for all attendees while still
providing a full table of prizes for the kids due to the generosity of the
following Members:

the early morning - to record the finish. Last boat crossed the line at 5:57AM.
Congratulations to Alan Johnson PRIVATE IDAHO for his first place finish
in the PRF3 class during the Canadian Club race. Also finishing in a very
respectful position was Frank Dolan PHOENIX in the Club Jam. Thanks for
coming out guys, you made the Windsor Yacht Club proud. Frank has also
joined us every Wednesday night for our Wednesday Night Race Series - nice
to see you and AJ out there flying the WYC flag!
Speaking of which, our Wednesday Night Race Series is a huge success as
we witness 45 boats racing every Wednesday night. Good weather for the
first 5 Wednesday Night Races had made for interesting starts and finishes.
I'm pleased to report that this early success has brought in a profit of over
$5,000.00 to our Club! We'll finish up the Spring Series at the end of June
and start up again in mid-August. Enjoy the summer folks! It's the best time
of the year!

MANAGER’S REPORT
LAURA WEVERS
Hello Members,
Here we are, officially summer and the pool is ready for you to enjoy.
Please remember if you would like to pre-order from the kitchen you
can call 519-945-1863 ext. 10 to place your order for either take out or
to dine in.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all of our Members
that there is absolutely no alcohol that is purchased from the bar,
whether you are in the dining room, bar side or on the patio, can not be
removed or taken into any unlicensed areas. Please do not take your
beverage to your boat or the pool.
In regards to the Dress Code for the Patio and other areas, please
refrain from any cut off shorts, tank tops or ripped shorts in the Club
or on the patio. Keeping in mind that you are also responsible for your
guest's attire.
We do serve an amazing breakfast every Sunday from 9 am to 2pm,
bring your family and friends for the best breakfast in town. Where else
can you sit on the patio right on top of the water!
Our new wine list has been introduced, please ask your server for a list
and let me know what you think.
I would also like to thank all the Members who are diligent in making
reservations ahead of time and also giving us the heads up when you
intend to sit on the patio, this helps me with staffing and the Chef with
his preparation.
I look forward to a very busy summer season and seeing everyone on
the patio.
Cheers,
Laura Wevers
