Busy October!
The twelfth annual Yadkin Valley Grape Festival was held
under gorgeous blue skies in downtown Yadkinville on
October 17th. Visitors had great weather to enjoy Yadkin
Valley Wines from 23 wineries, great food, and music from
“Rockers” and “Phatt City” performing on our Carolina
Carports stage. Wine Glass Sponsors for this year were the
Yadkin County/Town of Yadkinville Tourism Development
Authority and Indera Mills. Entertainment sponsors were the
Jonesville Tourism Development Authority and Yadkin Bank.
Gold Sponsors included James Williams & Company, and
Crissman Mendenhall Steelman Insurance and Financial
Services. Silver sponsors included WorkForce Unlimited, Duke
Energy, Primo Water, P.O.D.S. of the Piedmont Triad, Hugh
Chatham Memorial Hospital, Carolina Carports, and the Town
of Yadkinville. Bronze sponsors included Mountain Valley
Hospice, Yadtel, Kelly Office Solutions, and Big B Auto Parts.

and Repair. And on October 19, the Chamber hosted its first
ever trip – to China! Photo above shows the group of 31, along
with our guide for part of the trip, in the centuries old Lingering
Gardens in Suzhou, China. We’ll be sharing reports from our

Piedmont Triad Regional Council is
represented by William Pass. The Piedmont
Triad Regional Council (PTRC) is a voluntary
association of local governments - urban
and rural - authorized by state law to make
and implement joint regional decisions;
provide management, planning and technical
services to local governments; identify and
solve short and long-term problems best
addressed at the regional level; and bring
together local elected officials on a regular
basis, giving them an opportunity to form
working relationships, promote regional
issues and cooperation among members.
The PTRC is one of 16 regional councils in
North Carolina. They are designated by the
State of NC to serve as the lead regional
organization for the Piedmont Triad region.
They serve 73 member governments within

Yadkin Valley Heritage Corridor (YVHC)
Partnership is a regional tourism and
economic development collaboration
between Caldwell, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin
counties. Yadkin Valley Heritage Corridor
was established to develop place-based
economic strategies for northwest North
Carolina and to increase visitor spending
in the four-county target area. Specifically,
the Partnership is focused on increasing
recreational infrastructure through the
development of a multiuse trail system along
the Yadkin River and tourism marketing
infrastructure through a comprehensive and

News Briefs...
Municipal elections were held last
month in Yadkin County. The Town
of Boonville elected Commissioners
Devin Carter, William Paul Baity and
Tony Reece. In East Bend, voters
elected Larry Adams, Kyle Matthews,
and Mae Luffman as Commissioners, George Burns was elected to the
remainder of the seat held by retiring
Stewart Maples, and Archie Hicks was
elected Mayor. Jonesville elected
Wayne Moore, Tracy Wall, and Judy
Wolfe as Commissioners, and
Yadkinville saw Monta Davis Oliver,
Betty Driver and Tony Hall re-elected
to their Board seats. Congratulations to
each, and your willingness to serve is
appreciated!
The Yadkin Cultural Arts Center continues to offer great entertainment, special events, and free movie screenings
on selected weekends. Keep up with

Yadkin County wineries received a total
of 114 medals at the recent North
Carolina State Fair, including two
double gold medals awarded to Laurel

awarded to Yadkin Chamber members

Unemployment Rates in Yadkin County
continue to remain below the state
average. The most recent period, through
September, is reported at 4.5% for Yadkin
County. This rate compares to Davie at
4.7%, Forsyth at 5.2%, Iredell at 5.1%,
Stokes at 5.0%, Surry at 5.1%, and
Wilkes at 5.4%. This compares with the
September 2014 rate of 4.9% for Yadkin
County. The unemployment rate statewide in September 2015 was 5.4%, and
6.1% in September 2014.
