Introduction
Contemporary charm bracelets are really
cool and trendy, but the top brands are
very, very expensive! With this kit we show
how easy it is to make your own fabulous
bead charms, saving loads of money whilst
having all the fun of being creative and
learning fascinating new skills.
With a little know-how and practice you
will be able to make a dazzling variety of
professional looking beads using a number
of different techniques. You can then make
up your own bracelet to suit any outfit or
occasion. There are two bracelets included in
the kit, so why not make one for yourself and
one for a friend!
It’s important to start at the beginning of
this booklet and work through each project
in turn as each new project builds a deeper
understanding of the skills required. You can
then use your creative talents to make your
very own designs!

Here are some simple hints and tips to help
you get the best results.
Conditioning the Clay
The polymer clay needs conditioning before
you use it. This remixes the colour and makes
the clay soft and easy to work with. It also
removes any air bubbles, which can leave an
uneven surface after baking.
To condition the clay, cut off a small piece
and knead it in your hands until soft. The
warmth of your hands will soften the clay.
The clay will need re-conditioning if left
unused for several days.
Changing Colours
To make a brand new colour of clay, roll 2-3
colours together into a long log. Fold over,
twist and roll again. Keep doing this until the
colours have completely blended together.
Tip: Contrasting light and dark colours will
achieve a more noticeable change in colour.
To create a marbled effect, take two
long pieces of clay in different colours.
Fold over, twist and roll again. Keep
doing this until the clay has taken on a
stripy, marbled effect.

Roll up all your scraps of unused clay
into a ball and put it to one side, you
will be able to use it in other designs.
Baking the Clay
Always ask an adult to help you
when using the oven. Always use
oven gloves when putting items in
or taking them out of a hot oven.
Pre-heat oven to 130°C (gas mark 1/2).
Place the clay on an oven tray lined
with baking paper.
Bake the clay for 15 minutes in the
oven.
Remove clay from the oven with an
oven glove and let it cool for about 5
to 10 minutes before handling.

Make a New Colour
If you keep twisting and rolling the two
colours together, they will start to blend;
if you keep doing this the colours will
mix completely together to create a new
colour. Try adding white to one of the
brighter colours for a pastel look!

Dotty Beads
Picture Beads
Dotty beads look great. The dots can
be smooth or stand proud.
Make your beads unique with simple
shapes and 3D designs’
1. Roll a bead, but do not attach the
eyelets.
2. Take another colour of clay and
roll some very tiny balls (1 or 2 mm
in diameter). Press these balls all over
your clay bead.

If you’re feeling creative, try
making a marbled snake, then
wrapping it around your bead for
a fun look.
Here’s a technique to test your patience!
However, the results make the effort
worthwhile.
1. Make a small clay ball, about half a

centimeter round and pierce it with a
toothpick.
2. Roll a new piece of clay into a long
skinny snake about 25cm long. Try to
make the diameter of the snake as even
as you can along its length.

Funky Foil Beads
With this technique you can
give your beads a funky metallic
shimmer.
1. Roll a plain piece of clay into a bead
shape.
2. Take a sheet of the foil paper and
press your bead into the matt side.
When removed, the shiny foil should
lift onto the clay. Roll the clay back
into a ball shape and repeat until you
get your desired look.
Note: you will not be able to
cover beads entirely with foil but
you will get an elegant metallic
marbled effect.
Making your Charm Bracelet
Deluxe Charm
Bracelets
There are two velvet gift pouches
in the kit. Each contains a bracelet.
Once you have made one or two beads
you can start threading them on to
a bracelet to create your own special
design. Try adding some of the charms,
dice and lettered beads that come with
this kit, as they look great hanging
between the beads.
3. Push through the dowel, add
eyelets and bake.

17
Adding a Charm Dangle
1. Take a split ring - these look like
miniature key rings.
2. Thread on a charm just as you
would thread a key onto a key ring.
3. Thread the split ring and charm
You can also make flat charms.
To do this roll a small piece of clay
into a ball, then flatten between your
fingers. Use a toothpick to create a hole
at the top. Then press in small pieces
of different coloured clay in to create
a picture. You can also roll long skinny
snakes of clay and spiral them around,
or make stripes across the disc.

onto your bracelet.
Other Ideas Make Your Own Charms
You can make your own clay charms
just by taking small pieces of clay and
moulding them into shapes - you could
try to be very clever and make 3D shapes.
You’ll need to make a small hole at the top
of your charm to thread on a split ring.

Make Variations
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you
can start to make your own designs.
We’ve given you some examples in
these pictures but the possibilities are
endless!
