Congratulations to Tarquin - our next ‘Club Member of the Month’.
Tarquin has been attending day care with us from 12 weeks old.
If any other dogs in day care sit still long enough, you will be sure to find
Tarquin using them as a seat.
He completed puppy school in late 2012 and has just started obedience
class this month. He is well on his way to becoming a superstar!

A regular worming program is essential for your dog. While worming is effective
in killing worms that are present in the intestine at the time of treatment,
worming is not a vaccine against future attacks. This is why regular treatment is
essential to your pet's health. Dogs and cats can be re-infected from other pets
and from the environment.
Tick - including paralysis ticks - can be found in Tasmania, from bush lands to
suburban parks. Once a host is found, the tick climbs on and attaches its
mouthparts into the skin, beginning the blood meal. Once locked in place, the
tick will not detach until its meal is complete. It may continue to feed for
several hours to days, depending on the type of tick. On dogs, ticks often attach
themselves in crevices and/or areas with little to no hair – typically in and
around the ears, the areas where the insides of the legs meet the body,
between the toes, and within skin folds. If you decide to remove a tick yourself
you must be careful to not leave behind the head of the tick. Alternatively, you
should seek advice from your vet.
Flea infestations can be not only annoying for both dogs and humans, but also
very dangerous. Problems caused by fleas may range from mild to severe itching
and discomfort - to skin problems and infections. Anemia may also result from
flea bites in extreme circumstances. Furthermore, fleas can transmit tapeworms
and diseases to pets.
With all of these nasties, prevention is always better than cure. Most
treatments need to been done monthly, with some tri-monthly ones available

Club Canine Grooming Team
Club Canine now has much more availability to groom your furry
friend. An amazing groomer has just joined the team - and is ready
and can’t wait to help your furry friend look their very best. James has
worked in salons across Melbourne for the past 9 years and has
groomed everything from Tibetan Mastiffs to Teacup Chihuahuas and
even cats! Customers are raving about his style and he is now
available at our Hobart centre to help your dog look their best.
In the short time James has been with Club Canine, he has expressed
his wishes to groom most of the dogs at the centres - stating that he
could do so much to most of the dogs there.
James has a particular interest in Golden Retrievers and Samoyeds,
but really can make any dog amazing.
Club Canine has also acquired some wonderful helpers within our
grooming team – Brian – formerly a hairdresser and a groomer of his
poodles has joined the team, as has Kelly - a home groomer. They are
both great help in the doggy day spas, and are learning at an
incredible rate.
All this new help frees Courtney, Club Canine’s super-amazing home
grown head groomer to work from our Kingston store. Courtney is
truly one of Tassie’s best groomers and she can’t wait to get her
scissors onto the dogs down there.

This month we say goodbye to two beautiful pooches.
Waldo the German short hair pointer was bitten by a snake while his ‘mum and dad’ were out and they came home to
him already passed. Fortunately the snake didn’t get his brother Zulu.
Meg the German Sheppard passed away at age 12. She came to Emma and Steve at 7 years old and was a loyal
companion from day one. She will be greatly missed by her ‘brother’ Jim, the Labrador.
Puppy Class
Club Canine’s next puppy class is starting
Tuesday the 5th of March at Club K9 Hobart, 25 Melville Street.
or
Saturday the 16th of March at Club K9 Kingston, 30 Mertonvale circuit.
It is very important for families who have a new puppy to attend puppy class before their pup reaches 16 weeks old.
There are many different reasons to attend, but the most important is to ensure their puppy is able to experience positive
socialisation, during this their ‘critical socialisation’ period. Ours is a 1 hour x 5 week course. The cost is $88 for the entire
course or $20 per class with 10% of all proceeds going to Righteous Pups Australia.
To encourage responsible pet ownership… and the raising of a well socialised and balanced adult dog… please let anyone
you know who has, or is even thinking about getting a new pup, to contact us for free helpful information and advice.
Obedience Class
Basic Obedience
Club Canine’s next Basic Obedience induction will be on Saturday the 23rd of March. This first class covers basic canine
psychology, how dogs learn and how to set up good communication with them. After this class you are welcome to pick
and choose which classes you attend. We post a list of the upcoming subjects on our website each month. To be eligible
to move on to intermediate level obedience we recommend attending all 6 classes at some point. Please contact us to
book your spot now.
Intermediate Obedience
Class will recommence on Saturday the 16th of March at 3pm. The next assessment for the class will be held on April the
6th at 3pm, which means the next induction will be held on the 13th of April. This class will be for those who have passed
the intermediate assessment at the end of the basic obedience course. The Intermediate Obedience course will go for 6
weeks. In this course you will learn to train ‘in drive’, the basics behind the proofing phase, further skill acquisition and
lots more.
