“Kotcher’s Kapers”
Golf Outing Fundraiser
Monday, August 5, 2013
Sycamore Hills Golf Club
From The President
As we begin to enjoy our beautiful Michigan summer months
ahead, I would like to share some
encouraging statistics for your
enjoyment. Like all organizations,
we are not immune to fluctuating
membership levels that correspond
with the state of the economy. I am
happy to report that since 2010, after
a decline in membership, we have
been consistently increasing our
ranks. In the year 2010 we started off
with 176 members and reduced to
172 in 2011. We added two members in the beginning of 2012 and
then, by October of 2012, we had
a total of 186 members. Since the
beginning of 2013 we added three
more and today stand at 189 members. These are positive and encouraging signs that our Club is healthy
and growing, and as our membership
increases it allows us to better serve
those that happen to find themselves
in a crisis situation. I would like to
thank everyone for their hard work

The Annual “Kotcher’s Kapers” Golf Outing Fundraiser is less than a month
away! Please take a moment to register your foursome or individual players
with Ted Eikhoff. This is the Club’s second largest annual fundraiser and, to
continue to make the outing attractive and affordable, the Golf Committee
has kept the price the same as last year’s successful event. If you register and
pay prior to July 27th, your cost for the day, which
includes lunch, golf (hole-in-one entries
included)
and dinner with open bar, is only
$100. If you register after that date
or pay on-site the cost is
$115.
Each Par 3 will provide hole-inone opportunities with prizes
ranging from $10,000, a golf vacation package, a hot air balloon
ride and golf equipment. We
will continue with our popular
50/50 putting contest, LED HD TV
card game, raffles, silent auction,
door prizes and a 50/50 cash
raffle. Please see the enclosed flyer for complete details or go to www.golfdigestplanner.com/22359-grossepointecrisisclub/
The Golf Committee is continuing to solicit donations for the prize drawing
and Tee Sponsorships. If you have any questions regarding the event please
contact Ted Eikhoff at 313-407-9132 or [email protected]. If you have any
items for the silent auction contact Steve Graus at stevegraus@
comcast.net. For sponsorship opportunities contact Jim Maniere at 586-2323994 or at [email protected].
This is our last major fundraiser of the year, so please lend your support and
help make this another successful “Kotcher’s Kapers” Golf Outing.

Crisis Case Corner
By Donald H. Vormelker - Crisis Case Director
Case 1480 J. Oreson – D. Vormelker
A middle aged couple with three children living at home
was referred by a GPCC member’s son. Both adults were
receiving Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits.
The oldest daughter left home leaving numerous bills.
Another daughter, still at home, was sleeping on the floor.
The Club assisted with two months rent, a car insurance
payment and a box spring and mattress for the daughter.
Case 1481 J. Kotcher – J. Oreson
A member referred an elderly gentleman who was recovering from medical problems. After interviewing him, it
was determined he only required one months rent which
was provided by the Club.
Case 1482 R. Borowy - J. Flannery
A Club member’s wife recommended a co-worker who
was recovering from cancer and heart bypass surgery
and had not worked since February. She was collecting
SSDIB during recovery. Her doctor released her to return
to work but she was behind on rent and utility payments.
The Club paid three months rent and utility bills.
Case 1483 D. Vormelker – J. Oreson
A young couple with five children was recommended for
assistance by a Club member. The husband was injured
at work and the wife has Multiple Sclerosis. He has filed
for disability but they currently have no income and were
facing eviction. Three month’s rent was paid by the Club
and Meijer gift cards supplied for food and necessities for
their children.

Dear Grosse Pointe Crisis Club Members,
It is nice to know that there are still people who take such
pleasure in doing special things and making others feel
good. Thank you! You are really special people.
Case 1479
Dear Jerry,
Thank you so very much for your help financially and
emotionally. I was at my wits end when I was told about
your organization. I can only give thanks to God for bringing you people into my life and I can’t tell you how much
what you’ve done has changed my life by giving me
another chance and with God willing I can find a way to
give back.
Case 1482
To Everyone at the Grosse Pointe Crisis Club,
I want to thank everyone for what you have done for me. I
don’t know what I would have done if you wouldn’t have
helped.
I am feeling much better, and returning to work soon. So
things will once again fall into place with less stress.
Thank you again and God Bless all of you. I will see you
at your next benefit. I’m very much looking forward to
coming to help play a part in helping other people who
very much need it.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

We just completed
our 26th drawing
on July 3rd and the
jackpot total was
$7,221. The Jack of
Spades lives and we
continue to build the
jackpot.
Be part of the fun,
and a potential
winner, by supporting the Crisis Club
Jack of Spades raffle.
Drawings are each
Wednesday at 8:00
p.m. Tickets are only $1 and may be purchased from
any of the Trustees or at The Irish Coffee Bar and Grill,
Mike’s on the Water, DC Sports locations or, at the home
of the raffle, at the Sunrise Sunset Saloon.
The committee wishes to acknowledge the support of
Bob Borowy, Jim Ellis, Mike Arnett, Creighton Weber
and Jim Maniere for their ticket sales.
Whatever support you can provide, whether you buy
tickets, sell tickets or just pass the word is greatly appreciated.
From the President (continued from page 1)
and dedication to our Club and for promoting our good
works to those in our communities.
Speaking of promoting in our communities, our weekly
Jack of Spades raffle, held at Sunrise Sunset Saloon,
had a jackpot of $7,221 as of July 3rd. It continues to
grow waiting for that lucky person to draw the Jack of
Spades. Please see the article above to find out how
you can purchase tickets, and perhaps be the one to
find that elusive Jack.
Mark your calendars for our annual “Kotchers Kapers”
Golf Outing which is right around the corner. This
fantastic fundraiser will be held on Monday, August 5th
at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Macomb. The outing
cost is $115 however, by registering and paying by July
27th the outing cost is reduced to $100 per player. The
outing includes lunch, golf, dinner and open bar for
6
two hours. You cannot beat that deal! Grab your friends
and co- workers and sign up for a very enjoyable,
relaxing day. If you are not a golfer you can still attend
lunch/dinner/bar for $50 or only $40 if you register by
July 27th. With our four person scramble format you
don’t have to be a good golfer to have a truly enjoyable
day. So grab some clubs and come on out and have
some fun. We are always looking for tee sponsors and/
or door prizes, so if you or anyone you know could help
by securing donations, please contact me. It would be
greatly appreciated.
I look forward to enjoying the warm weather ahead.
Be safe, and see you at the outing on August 5th.
