BMCCF - Minutes
February 21, 2013
Temptations, a.k.a. the BMCCF Club House
Meeting called to order 7:00pm. January’s minutes were approved.
Le Compt de Monay reports that the Treasury holds $5,752.20. Not bad.
Our 2013 Car Show has been officially welcomed to the Wrightsville Beach Park for September
14th. Please feel free to volunteer and consider chairing Sound System or Sponsor Sales, or any
other, for that matter. Contact Pam before you spend any money on the show so she can budget
correctly.
Among our visitors, Cathy and Greg Pittman get the Long Distance Award, trekking from Selma
for the weekend. Caryl Finn, as our official Registrar, welcomed two new members – Brett Lee
(actually a new/old/former/previous/welcomed back – pick one - member) who owns a ’60 TR3
and ’67 MGB, and Sydney Christian (Cristen’s mom) with a Mini Cooper S. Robin Ward
introduced Steve Shepherd who says he has an “un-running” ’80 MGB. I imagine that will be
fixed pretty quickly! Our membership now totals 73.
Cars and Coffee, last meeting at Schaeffer BMW on a COLD morning, was nonetheless a
success with 9 of our members present. Next up is at Chili’s on College (next to Kmart) on
March 2, 9:00 am.
Activities: Susan Roberson reported the Chili Cook-Off a great success. Thank you John and
Joanne Foster. Donna Schaefer won for her fabulous chili, Caryl Finn for her really yummy
chowder, and Thelma Steuter for that luscious baklava. Sigh. Events coming up will be posted
on the website and sent via emails. Our calendars are filling up! Some upcoming events are:
Saturday Feb 23rd’s Shake the Cobwebs out drive will be put off a day to Sunday, same time,
same place.
AACA’s Antique Cars at Independence Hall March 9.
St. Patrick’s Day-on-the-16th at Michael’s in Carolina Beach.
The MG Club’s weekend in Beaufort March 23.
International Festival benefiting Relay for Life on April 6, Kiwanis Park in Hampstead (it was
voted that BMCCF would donate $100 – and any number of us can participate – a great cause so
let’s turn out in force for it).
Carolina British Classics April 4th-6th in Cayce, SC.
Rims on the River April 20.
The Spring weekend in New Bern on May 17th (Hilton Doubletree at $119/night – holding that
price until 4-17) will include a drive on Saturday.
2
Christen and Patti are working on a rally (yea!).
A thank you plaque and a really nice thank you note from New Hanover Regional Medical
Center was presented to Dale Masters for his work on last summer’s Pink Ribbon Project
drive. It will hang proudly in our clubhouse, Temptations.
The Top Cat Yard Sale is coming up (April 20) – any donations can be made to Cookie Cooper.
Sadly, we have lost a most important member of our club. Dale Masters passed away on
Sunday, February 24, 2013. Please keep the Linda and their son, Tom, and daughter, Mary, and
their families, in your thoughts and prayers in this most difficult time.
Even though the minutes are long, our meeting was short so we could make time to see Time
Shift, a BBC production of British Sports cars after WWII, kindly brought to us by Eric
Robinson. It was an hour of wonderful LBCs and typical British humor. Thanks, Eric!
41 members attended. More come each month – we need extra tables!
Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Karen Burr, Secretary

Since you asked...Friends have been asking if there is anything they can do for Pam's
sister and her family. Prayers are always welcome and needed. If you care to do more,
you could stop by any branch location of Wells Fargo and make a donation to The
O’Connor Family account or send checks directly to:

Operation Topcat, a non-profit organization that helps spay and neuter
the stray and feral cats in the Topsail area, has planned a yard sale for
Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m.. Money raised will go towards helping to
reduce the overpopulation of cats in our area and educating pet owners
about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. The yard sale
will be held at the Mini Storage on the Green Hampstead on Hwy 17
South. Donations for the sale are still being accepted.

that "tasting was open" and some attendees headed
straight for the luscious desserts!
There were appetizers, two Chowder's, four Chili's , one

much sampling and conversation, the votes were counted

We have lost a founding member of BMCCF, an inspiration to all and we

“They are back with a new project”:
Tr-6 Project Update #1
By - John Foster
Since acquiring a 1971 Triumph TR-6 (that had set unused for a number of years after a
"small" ft. end collision) from fellow BMCCF member Gil David on 2/2/13, the general
plan is to get the car running to access the condition of the engine, etc. before addressing
the body work.
Some of the items accomplished are:
Drained/removed/flushed radiator & hoses.
Drained engine oil (pretty black) & replaced canister style oil filter.
Removed/drained gas tank (old fuel was really STINKING).
Blew out fuel supply lines, cleaned mech. fuel pump internal filter, removed/cleaned
carb. float bowls, etc.
Cleaned corroded ignition points & re-set gap, cleaned scale from inside distributor cap/
rotor contacts.
Sent clutch slave
cylinder to Apple
Hydraulics for brass
sleeving the bore
and re-build.
Cleaned all battery
power & ground
cables & attachment
points.
Drained/re-filled
Trans. oil, topped
off differential &
rear shocks.
Greased front end/
drive-shaft & rear
axles.
Removed spark
plugs & sprayed
WD-40 into
cylinders.

BMCCF Stuffs:
•From Ron Foster - Thought you guys would like to have this in your
files. Note the color combination.
http://youtu.be/66owXqZaexs
• From Eric Robinson - The car pictured in the newsletter is a Healy-Elliott. and it was
Donald Healey's first closed saloon model. Bodies were built by Samuel Elliott and
Sons (Caversham) on a chassis of Healey's design, and with a 2443cc 4-cylinder twin
Riley engine (from the RMB) tuned to give 104bhp. The Healey Elliot saloon set a
record of 110mph on the Jabbeke straight in Belgium in 1947, the fastest 4-seater
closed saloon in the world. 104 Healey Elliots were built from 1946-1950. At the end,
Elliot and Healey fell out, and the replacement saloon was built by Tickford. The
Healey Westland was an open roadster version of the Elliott built by Westland Motor
Works (Hereford).

• From Craig Murden - The Gathering car show will be April 19-21 this year.
But, the close-in Hampton Inn is already sold out. So, some of us are booking the
Hamton Inn in Mt. Airy---15 minutes from the show. It's $109 (before AAA 5%
discount) and there's still plenty of room there for those dates. Mt. Airy Hamton Inn ph.

• From David Ward - Nobody but the British could do this ad, and for a good cause
too!! Enjoy!!

• From Gail Guthrie - So there you are in Sabadell , near Barcelona , Spain , and you
decide to go out and for a late afternoon stroll around the town square with the rest of
the folks.
All of a sudden this guy in a top hat and tux comes out with a large bass violin and starts
playing the final movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony. Well, that's kinda ' neat so you
hang around to watch for a few minutes.A crowd begins to gather in curiosity, enjoying
the guy play. What happens next will blow your mind.

• From David Ward - Look up Your First Car!!
This is really cool. Find your first car or the one you drove to high school or college;
hopefully your car brochure is available. This has to be one of the neatest web sites
whether you have gasoline in your veins or not. This is a website featuring the original
factory brochures for nearly every American car you have ever owned. Pick the
manufacturer, the year and the model.

shape, is a blast to drive and turns heads everywhere. I have much more invested than I
am asking but I will entertain any reasonable offers.
I am only asking $4,000 and I need to sell it soon.
