Grey Cup History - Statistical Notes:
The team records provided here have been subjected to a comprehensive review
in 2010 and 2011. This was done in order to ensure their accuracy, consistency and
comparability across 60 years of changing rules and interpretations since detailed
numbers first became available in the early 1950s. The edits made include those
from recording processes on the day (such as correct player IDs, yardage, addition,
sacks etc.) and subsequently as they have been compiled. In addition, a few minor
changes have been made to allow for comparability from year to year. Excellent video
exists for all games since 1953 and this was essential in ensuring the integrity of
this updated record book for 2011.
During the review process of each and every Grey Cup play since 1953, efforts were
made to extend comparatively recent statistical measures back to all post-1951 games
such as tackles, sacks, 2nd down conversions, average gain, lead changes etc.

Note:
All-time Grey Cup statistics presented in this section have been comprehensively re-researched and corrected and update those in previous CFL Guides. In 2011, the
CFL undertook an extensive video-based review of all 10,000+ Grey Cup plays since 1952 and edited those that required adjustment to establish an accurate dataset.

Historical Notes - Grey Cup Game Summaries
1. Game scoring data is based on detailed historical research into the many accounts of each game available in the press dating back to 1909. It must be noted
that for some games prior to the 1930s differing accounts of scoring plays may exist. Where this is the case the most reasonable and credible accounts have
been used and verified by multiple sources where possible. The 1913 Grey Cup is a particularly difficult game to be absolutely certain for touchdown scorers
however new research by Larry Robertson has revealed what is shown above as being the most accurate reflection of that game’s results.
2. Game statistical data is based on the following sources:
- 1909 to 1929: No consistently available reports exist (though there are some fragmentary statistical accounts)
- 1930 to 1952: Canadian Press post-game summaries and game accounts
- 1953 to 2010: Official CFL archived scoresheets and Grey Cup game video
(FD: First downs; Rush: No of rushes-yards; Att/C: Pass attempts and completions; Yds: passing yards; Net: Net offence - net of team losses)
3. Final statistics for all post-1951 Grey Cups games were comprehensively reviewed and edited in 2011 in order to eliminate any scoring and/or addition issues
and to provide greater accuracy, consistency and statistical comparability. The review was based on existing documentation for each game as well as a full
video review of each of the nearly 10,000 individual Grey Cup plays run since 1952.
