What is Reentry?
PROMOTING THE EFFECT IVE REINTEGRATION OF OFFENDERS BACK TO COMMUNITIES
UPON RELEASE FROM PRISON AND JAIL
5-YEAR STRATEGIC PLA N
 Goal 1: Continue to build a
coordinated reentry service delivery
plan through the infrastructure of
existing programs by augmenting
current services at sites & adding
additional sites. This will include the
coordination of felon registration
with reentry services and
coordination with Florida Department of Corrections & Palm Beach
County Sheriff’s Office inmates.
 Goal 2: Create uniformity in
assessment, delivery, and
evaluation of services.
 Goal 3: Increase employment
opportunities for ex-offenders.
 Goal 4: Sustainability.
 Goal 5: Create a subcommittee
structure to support goals 1-4.
Reentry involves the use of programs targeted
at promoting the effective reintegration of exoffenders back to communities upon release
from prison and jail while maintaining public
safety. Reentry programming, which often
involves a comprehensive case management
approach, is intended to assist ex-offenders in
acquiring the life skills needed to succeed in the
community and become law-abiding citizens. A
variety of programs are used to assist exoffenders in the reentry process, including prerelease programs, drug rehabilitation and vocational training and work programs.
Organization
COLLABORATION
The Palm Beach County Reentry Initiative is
supported by the Palm Beach Criminal Justice
Commission through the Reentry Task Force.
The task force is responsible for implementing
the Palm Beach County Strategic Plan for
Reentry. They provide comprehensive case
management
and
job
development
programming. Other services include: job
readiness training; job placement; computer
skills training; transportation; drivers license
restoration and restoration of civil rights. The
fulltime Job Finder and Paralegal round out the
cadre of services which provide programming
to the entire county.
In 2012, employment and on-the-job training
programming will be further developed. An
application has been submitted to the
Department of Justice for the Second Chance
Grant for a second year of project funding.
This grant will allow for an expansion of
services and collaboration with the Florida
Department of Corrections.
The Palm Beach County Reentry Project is
contingent upon maintaining and developing
partnerships with government departments at
the federal, state, and local levels; social
service agencies; community and faith-based
organizations; private sector businesses; and
residents.
The purpose of Reentry in Palm Beach County is
to connect returning citizens from our local
Palm Beach County Jail, the Florida Department
of Corrections, and the Federal Bureau of
Prisons to necessary services. These services
may include several strategies used by existing
initiatives which are applicable to reentry as
well. They include mental health treatment,
employment assistance, substance abuse
prevention, housing, welfare, faith-based, family
reunification, and transportation services.
