Mass Intentions
Today’s Gospel Reflection
1st Reading: Is 55:6-9 * Psalm 145:2-3, 8-9, 17-18 *
2nd Reading: Phil 1:20c-24, 27a * Gospel: Mt 20:1-16a
SEEK THE LORD
In today’s opening reading,
Isaiah urges us to “seek the LORD”
who is “near” and can be
“found” (Isaiah 55:6). Then Isaiah
says God’s ways are as high
above our ways “as the heavens
are above the earth” (Isaiah 55:9).
So we search, not because God is hiding, but because our
tendencies are so different from God’s ways that we get lost.
How are God’s ways so high above our ways? The
example Isaiah gives is that God’s way is to be “generous in
forgiving” (Isaiah 55:7). And our way? We try to be “fair.” You
hurt me, so then I hurt you back, just as hard. Then, of course,
you . . . . And on it goes.
In today’s Gospel Jesus teaches that God is not “fair” like
that. Instead, God is so generous we can hardly understand it.
The same wage for one hour as for a whole day of work? Not
fair! “Seek the Lord,” and we might find a God who calls us to
be, not fair, but generous beyond expectations.

“Turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous
in forgiving.” — Isaiah 55:7b
BUSCAR AL SEÑOR
En la primera lectura de hoy,
Isaías nos insta a “buscar al Señor”
que está “cerca” y puede
“encontrarse” (Isaías 55:6). Entonces
Isaías dice que los caminos de Dios
se elevan por encima de nuestros
caminos, “así como el cielo está muy
alto por encima de la tierra” (Isaías
nuestro camino? Nosotros tratamos de ser “justos”. Tú me
ofendes, entonces yo te ofendo también. Entonces, por supuesto,
tú. . .

PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Parishioners and friends,
Have you pledged yet? The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) 2014 continues until
December 31, 2014. As of September 7, 2014, out of the 2,925 registered parishioners, only
469 have pledged. I could not help but ask, where are the 2,456?
Each one of us are called to serve — to be stewards. The call to stewardship challenges us to live our
lives as a continual expression of our belief in and gratefulness to God. Once again, I appeal to those who
have not yet participated in ACA 2014 to step out in faith. I pray that your response may be an expression of
your desire to follow our Lord Jesus by advancing the mission He has entrusted to all of us. Your participation, regardless of amount, makes a big difference. You may find ACA envelopes in the pews and in the
vestibule, and drop your envelope in the collection basket or bring it to the office.
If writing a check, please make it payable to the Diocese of San Diego. If you are making your pledge
online, please complete a pledge card and submit it to the office or drop it in the collection basket.
Thank you for being a parishioner of St. Michael.

MARIAN PILGRIMAGE in Mexico, December 10-17, 2014. Join us as we celebrate the
feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe where Our Lady appeared to St. Juan Diego 473 years
ago in Mexico. The image of Our Lady, miraculously imprinted on the tilma, is hanging at
the new Basilica of Guadalupe. Then we visit the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Ocotlán. The
image of the Virgin Mary was found (10 years after the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe) in a trunk of an oak tree that was not consumed with a burning fire. We’ll walk down
the well and drink of the healing water. The second most visited pilgrimage site in Mexico
after the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos, the
“Great Lady”. Visited by St. Pope John Paul II in 1990, the Great Lady is venerated especially for cases involving mortal danger or dangerous illnesses. Then we go to Guadalajara
and visit Our Lady of Zapopan, also known as Our Lady of Expectation. It is considered the third most important pilgrimage in
the country, after the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Virgin of San Juan de Los Lagos. Who says that pyramids are found only in
Egypt? Let’s go and climb the pyramids of Mexico. For more information, call 619-261-2544 or [email protected].

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle. Be our
protection against the wickedness and
snares of the devil. May God rebuke
him, we humbly pray; and do Thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the
Divine Power of God - cast into hell,
Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam
throughout the world seeking the ruin
of souls. Amen.
