MEN OF TOMORROW CREED
“We the MEN of the North Metro Men of
Tomorrow program believe in a values based
system that will shape our thoughts, actions
and contributions to society. These values are
Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility,
and Accountability. This is our quest,
this is our creed, these are our values.”
Julian Pouncy
President
100 Black Men of North Metro Inc.
Greetings,
This year, the 100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc. is celebrating its 23rd year as a
chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. North Metro is a working chapter that
is actively involved in the communities we serve. We are a mentoring organization
that serves Cobb, Gwinnett and North Fulton Counties. Our chapter continues to
grow in both membership and the number of youth that our programs touch.
North Metro currently works with over 400 youth annually in our community-based
mentoring program held at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Mableton, Lawrenceville and
our newest location at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell. The chapter also
maintains a strong presence with several area elementary, middle and high schools.
North Metro mentees continue to maintain a 100% graduation rate!
We introduced the “Lunch with a Leader Program” at North Springs Charter High
School and recently implemented a STEM program at Stripling Elementary. Our
mentees compete in the African American History Challenge and the Dollars and
Sense Financial Literacy competitions held annually at our national convention. Our
mentees recently visited the new Human and Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta. Last
year, we partnered with AARP’s TEK program where our mentees tutored senior
citizens on the use of smart phones, tablets and PC’s. Both the mentees and the
seniors benefited from the interaction and exchange of information.
North Metro focuses on increasing awareness and providing information, education
and leadership in four key areas: Mentoring, Education, Health & Wellness and
Economic Empowerment. Our members are dedicated to empowering our youth
to reach their full potential. We place strong emphasis on academic excellence,
respect, discipline and goal setting.
Thank you to our corporate sponsors, community partners, parents, mentees,
volunteers and members for your loyal dedication, financial, and moral support of
North Metro and its mission. Without you, we cannot and will not be successful
in mentoring and developing our greatest asset – our youth. It is truly an honor and
a privilege to serve as your President of the 100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc.
Sincerely,
Julian Pouncy

100 BLACK MEN HISTORY
Our Legacy
NATIONAL LEGACY
The original group, known as 100 Black Men, was founded in New York City in 1963 by
a group of concerned and successful professional African American men who wanted to
make a difference in their local community. These men wanted to devote their combined
skills and resources in order to confront the challenges facing African American youth. As
these men left New York City for other parts of the country, they established other groups
with the same core mission and named them all “100 Black Men.” A movement had
been started. In 1986 the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. was formed. Today, more than
40 years later, the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. has 116 chapters, more than 10,000
members and positively impacts the lives of more than 100,000 kids annually.
LOCAL PRESENCE
The 100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc. (The 100) was formed in June of 1992. We have
been serving the community for the past 23 years. Our focus is on Cobb, Gwinnett and
North Fulton counties; however, our programs include youth across all of Metro Atlanta.
Our members are committed to helping young people by providing mentoring and support
in learning life skills, academic excellence, health and wellness awareness and financial
literacy.
MISSION
To improve the quality of life of our community, and enhance educational and economic
opportunities for African-Americans.
VISION
The members of the 100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc. want the chapter to serve
as a beacon of leadership. We will do this by utilizing our diverse talents to create an
environment where our children are motivated to achieve, and to empower our people to
become self-sufficient shareholders in the economic and social fabric of the community.
VALUES
The members of the 100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc. are committed to the intellectual
development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African American community
based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity.
CORE PRINCIPLES
• Focus on youth educational development programs
• Volunteer work ethic (which permeates throughout our chapter)
• Mission-focused as individuals, committees, and a chapter
• Unique business-like approach to our non-profit mission
100 BLACK MEN PILLARS
Four for the Future
MENTORING
The 100 is committed to mentoring and supporting individuals as they pursue goals
throughout their lifetime. The challenges we face today with our youth may appear
insurmountable to those who are not familiar with Mentoring the 100 Way®.
We focus on building essential skills needed to become productive, contributing
citizens. We emphasize a mentoring success pyramid which includes the parent,
mentor and mentee. With these three components all focused on the mentee’s
success, there is no way we will not be successful.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
The North Metro Chapter aims to develop programs that address the economic
underdevelopment of the African American community – programs designed to
promote savings, home ownership and entrepreneurship. Our goal is to instill
positive economic values in young people and encourage adults to realize their full
economic potential.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Health and Wellness is a vital component of a thriving community. The purpose of
The 100’s Health & Wellness program is to raise the awareness levels concerning
health care issues in the African American community. To achieve such awareness,
the North Metro Chapter partners with various organizations to promote a variety
of health and wellness issues such as health screenings, drug and HIV/AIDS
prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, and diabetes and prostate cancer awareness.
EDUCATION
The 100 believes that education is the key to opportunity and success. For
this reason, we promote educational excellence and are committed to the
encouragement of young people to thrive in this area of their lives. Reaching out
into our communities, we provide scholarships and numerous tutoring programs
while members take an active role in primary and secondary education.
Education is key to self-empowerment and self-esteem. The 100 believes that all
children can learn given the proper resources and commitment from their parents
and teachers. When children are stimulated, motivated and provided a strong
support system, they can succeed. We know their success ultimately leads to a
stronger and brighter future for our communities and our nation.

Erica Thomas
State Representative HD 39
At an early age Erica Renee Thomas answered her life’s calling: to
be of service to others. Erica often states, “I truly believed that my
passion to serve was manifested through my trials in life, so I accept
challenges as building blocks on the path to success.” Those blocks
began to develop when Erica was placed into the foster care system
at the age of 15.
Moving between six different homes, Erica was abused, but she did not allow
this dark experience to dampen her ambitions nor quiet the song of service in
heart. Erica worked through the pain and decided that she would save herself,
by helping to save others. During her school days, Erica kept straight A’s and
was made class president.
In 2006, Erica attended Oakwood University where she developed an interest
in political science. Erica shared her life lessons through mentoring young
girls in her community. Erica taught these young girls to survive in the face
of adversity and helped one mentee reconnect with her family after being in
a group home for 2 years. Erica’s adamant support for young children urged
her to develop “Speak Out Loud.” Erica began this non-profit with the vision
of giving a voice to foster kids who have been silenced because of their
circumstances.
She instills knowledge, ambition, and most importantly a sense of purpose
into the lives of young people, so they will be able to take control of their lives
and defeat the odds. Speak Out Loud has expanded across the country, and
established chapters in Sapeles and Lagos, Nigeria. Erica has been fortunate
enough to donate books to Ethiopian primary school children. In her effort
to create a better study environment for young children, Erica is working on
building libraries across the continent of Africa.
In 2013, she received the Ambassador for Peace Award from the Global
Peace Foundation.
In 2014 at age 26, Erica was elected to the Georgia House of
Representatives. In her efforts to empower foster children she has already
passed a resolution to create Foster Kids Day in Georgia.

Zion Missionary
Baptist Church
Roswell, GA
Zion Missionary Baptist Church (ZMBC) was organized in 1871 by
a small group of dedicated Christians who had prayed and labored
together in love, understanding fellowship.
ZMBC has stood tall for 144 years as a missions minded church on both
foreign and domestic soil. Locally, ZMBC supports the Drake house;
Every Woman Works; Kairos (prison ministry); Atlanta Christian Cursillo;
Hope Roswell; Habitat for Humanity; and Neighborhoods Focused on
African American Youth.
ZMBC has been served by fourteen pastors. The current Interim Pastor
is the Reverend (Dr.) Jeffrey Haggray who has succeeded Reverend
(Dr.) Frank Lewis who was Zion’s Anointed Under Shepard and Chief
Administrative Officer for 31 years prior to being called to his heavenly
home in August 2014.
On March 18, 2001, “Standing on the Promises of God,” ZMBC entered
a four story edifice, consisting of 77,000 square feet of habitable space.
This move was the evidence of God’s blessing and enabled the church’s
charge to accommodate worship, administration and education.
Under the Leadership of Reverend (Dr.) Frank Lewis, a partnership was
forged with the 100 Black Men of North Metro. Dr. Lewis recognized the
need to educate and mentor our children so they grow to be productive
citizens in our communities. He understood the African Proverb that “It
Takes a Village to Raise a child.”
ZMBC and the 100 Black Men of North Metro have partnered on many
projects through the years. Today, ZMBC is the host location for North
Metro’s third mentoring location. ZMBC has great respect for the work
the 100 Black Men of North Metro does and looks forward to many more
years of partnership to lend a helping hand.
ZMBC “…for the people had a mind to work!”
PARENT ACTION COMMITTEE
13
Parent Action Committee
The Parent Action Committee (PAC) began in
March 2010 and is comprised of all parents
whose sons are mentees in North Metro’s
Men of Tomorrow Mentoring Program (MOT).
A successful mentoring program requires that
the mentees, mentors and parents all share
a common vision and goals. The PAC is not
a separate unit. Our goals and mission are
in alignment with the vision and goals of The
100 Black Men of North Metro, Inc.: Improve
the quality of life in our communities through
mentoring, educating and developing our
youth.
The Parent Action Committee focuses on three
major areas:
1. Support of North Metro’s Men of Tomorrow
Mentoring program
2. Support and participate in the “Mentoring
Across a Lifetime” curriculum.
3. Actively participate in community
service projects
Our first priority is to support the 100 Black
Men of North Metro, Inc. and its Men of
Tomorrow Mentoring Program. We support
activities sponsored by The 100 and we
volunteer to serve where needed. Active
participation in the PAC allows us to set good
examples and demonstrates to our young men
our commitment to the mentoring program
and to them.
The ”Mentoring Across a Lifetime” philosophy
allows us to help identify topics, educational
opportunities and seminars that can help
us grow and be informed for a lifetime. We
work with the 100 to identify topics, speakers
and trainers. Seminars and discussions are
conducted on a wide variety of topics of
interest to parents. The meeting sessions
provide a safe environment to ask questions,
share concerns and solve problems. Meetings
are positive, upbeat and designed to help build
rapport and strong parenting skills.
We believe in community service and feel
that participation is essential to our survival in
today’s world. We partner with organizations
in our community to provide assistance and
encouragement. Our community service also
sets a great example for our mentees as
community service is also encouraged in the
(MOT) program. Our simple acts of kindness
may help change a life and have a positive
impact on someone.
The PAC is led by a Board of Directors under
the guidance of the 100. The PAC meets
during the first mentoring session of the
month in the Lawrenceville location and the
second mentoring session of the month at the
Mableton location. We invite you to join us.
Thank you for supporting your
Parent Action Committee!

“You Will Know”
Black Men United, 1994
When I was a young boy
I had visions of fame
They were wild and they were free
They were blessed with my name
And then I grew older
And I saw what’s to see
That the world is full of pain
And my dreams they left me
And then I got stronger
Inside of the pain
That’s when I picked up the pieces
And I regained my name
And I fought hard, y’all
To call by my place
And right now you could ask me
And it all seems in vain
[Your dreams ain’t easy]
Your dreams ain’t easy
[You just stick by your plan]
You just stick by your plan
[Go from boys to men]
Go from boys to men
[You must act like a man]
You gotta act like a man
[When it gets hard, y’all]
When it gets hard, y’all
[You just grab what you know]
Got what you know
[Stand up tall and don’t you fall]
And my background sing
You will know [You will know],
yeah...eah...
[You will know]
[You will know] You will know, you
will know
[You will know]
And I know you’re cryin’
‘Cause it’s all in his vein
And the things you want
you can’t have
It just all went away
But life ain’t over
Hoo...hoo...
Just grab the winds
and make demands
And the vibe will take you far
[Your dreams ain’t easy]
Your dreams ain’t easy
[You just stick by your plan]
Stick by your plan, boy
[Go from boys to men]
Go from boys to men
[You must act like a man]
I know it ain’t easy
[When it gets hard, y’all]
it gets hard sometime
[You just grab what you know]
Yes, it does
[Stand up tall and don’t you fall]
Stand up tall, don’t you fall, and
you will know, yeah
[You will know]
[You will know] Ah...ah...ah... (You
will know)
[You will know] Hey, there’s no
doubt about it
[You will know] Hey, you will know
[You will know] You will know
[You will know] Hey...ey...hey...
[You will know] You will know, yeah
[Oh, you will know] Hey...
[Your dreams ain’t easy]
Your dreams ain’t easy
[You just stick by your plan]
Stick by your plans
[Go from boys to men]
Boys to men
[You must act like a man]
You must act like a man
[When it gets hard, y’all]
It ain’t hard, yeah
[You just grab what you know]
Grab what you know
[Stand up tall and don’t you fall]
Oh...oh...oh...
[Your dreams ain’t easy]
[You just stick by your plan]
Hey...hey...yeah
[Go from boys to men]
Boys to men
[You must act like a man]
I know it ain’t easy
[When it gets hard, y’all]
[You just grab what you know]
Yeah...
[Stand up tall and don’t you fall]
Come on D and sing this song
[You will know] Yeah...
[You will know] You will know
[You will know]
[You will know] Hey...
