This handbook serves as the primary source of information and will help you maximize your time as an
international student in Moscow.

MESI student residence.
Rooms may not be exchanged unless the administration has approved the request.

inside all public buildings. MESI regulations also prohibit smoking on
campus.

All residents are expected to make their own beds and keep their rooms tidy. The floors and the
bathrooms will be cleaned by the cleaning staff. Keep your room tidy so the cleaning staff can do their
job. Don’t remove furniture from the room. Avoid damage to walls and doors. Please note that you
must be careful with the wall outlets for plugs and cords in the rooms. When out of the room, keep all
windows shut to prevent them from slamming and getting broken. You will be charged for broken
windows or other damages. Please, be also careful with your key.
Visitors are not permitted to overnight in your room.
We also urge all students to guard against theft. MESI is unable to replace or refund the value of
stolen items. Please take precautions. Always lock the door and keep your windows shut when you
leave your room. Protect yourself against pickpockets. Don’t carry valuable items with you.
In case of illness or injury, or if you need any medical attention, or you are in a situation where
another student gets sick or injured, you can consult a representative of the International Relations
Department. If there is no representative of the International Relations Department available, you stay
calm and: provide first aid, secure the accident area, prevent the worsening of the injury or illness,
establish contact with the injured or ill person, and call for help. You can use any of the below said
emergency numbers.

Internet access and IT services
Internet access at MESI
MESI has free wireless internet access. WI-FI is available widely across the main building of the university. You can connect a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone to MESIWireless wi-fi network.
Internet access in MESI student residence
However, WI-FI is not available in the student residence. In order to connect to the Internet in your room
you will need to use a network cable.
An international student must have his/her MESI username and password to be able to log on to the
network http://isp.mesi.ru/
You can receive your username and password in the room No. 005 on the ground floor of the main
building. IT support is available on weekdays, from 10.00 till 17.30 Monday-Thursday, and from 10.00 till
16.30 Friday. IT support office is closed during lunchtime from 13.00 till 14.00.
An administrator will be able to help you fill in an application form for the Internet access, and give you a
username and password.

Note that before going to IT support office, we recommend you set up a cable connection in your
room and determine an IP-address for the administrator. If there is no network cable in your room,
please contact IT support office.
After you get your username and password you need to choose the Internet package that you are going
to use.

You can make a payment through payment terminals of SDM-bank (in Russian “СДМ-БАНК”) that are
both located on the 1st floor of the student residence and the 1st floor of the main building of the university.
To pay you should tap “МЭСИ-Онлайн”, and insert your account (i.e. username, in Russian “Логин”)
on the display of the terminal.
If something is wrong with a network cable in your room, you can contact a person who is in charge of
technical support in the student residence by telephone + 7 (916) 931-01-32, or don’t hesitate to ask the
International Relations Department staff for help.

MESI shuttle buses
MESI has its own shuttle buses running from 7.00 till 22.15 Monday-Saturday (Sunday is a holiday) in
two directions, nearest Metro stops: SLAVYANSKY BUL’VAR (dark blue line 3) and KIEVSKAYA (dark
blue line 3, brown line 5, blue line 4.
The shuttle bus fare to SLAVYANSKY BUL’VAR is RUB 25, to KIEVSKAYA - RUB 30.
You can also go to other nearest Metro stops by taking regular buses No. 187, 206 to UNIVERSITET,
bus No. 641 to SLAVYANSKY BUL’VAR, bus No. 42 to PROSPEKT VERNADSKOGO.

In order to connect your mobile phone to one of the Russian mobile networks, you can purchase a prepaid SIM card in a store nearest to MESI (see below). Your SIM card will remain active as long as you
subscribe to one of the Russian mobile networks, so you can move it from one device to another whenever you like. Please take your device and ID (passport) with you when going to the store.
The store is called Mobil Element (in Russian “Мобил Элемент”).
You can also make a payment on your phone account there, or on the website of one of the above said
mobile network operators.
