The 2014 audit has been completed and a copy is available at the
clubhouse for anyone that would like to review it.
We also would like you to know that during the summer months
we will be working with the Architectural Review Committee to
review and update the architectural standards for Lake Forest.
Once it is all finalized, all residents will be notified by mail and
approval of any changes will be scheduled at a board meeting in
the fall.
Clubhouse Office Hours
At the conclusion of the April 30th Board meeting, we will be
adjourning (board meetings) for the summer. Board meetings will
reconvene on September 24, 2015. We will continue to hold
workshops during the summer. Scheduled workshops will be
posted on the bulletin board located outside of the clubhouse.
Everyone is invited to attend these workshops where we review
architectural applications and also discuss daily operations to
keep the community functioning smoothly. We will be very happy
to accept comments from the community.

FROM OUR PROPERTY MANAGER
I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation in adhering to the rules and regulations of
Lake Forest at SLW and rectifying any non-compliance issues that they are notified about. Please
take an occasional look at your property to make sure everything is up to the maintenance
standards required by the association. I would also like to remind everyone that any changes to
the exterior of your property must be approved by the Architectural Review Committee before
the change is made. The Architectural Review Committee meets twice per month to review the
applications. Please plan your project to allow time to obtain an approval. The approval process
may take up to 30 days. If approval is not received and you make changes, you will be required
to restore it to the original condition. Once approval is obtained, it is very important to adhere to
the plans that were approved. If anything deviates from the plans, you will be required to restore
it to its original condition.
As always, please pick up after your pet and discard the waste properly. I have received notice
from St. Lucie West Services District that owners are going around the fence at the Rocky Bayou
cul-de-sac near the turnpike with their pets, picking up the waste and leaving the waste bags
behind. Going around the fence is trespassing and violators will be prosecuted!
On another note, the rainy season will soon be
upon us and some homes have issue with
saturated grass. If you find your grass sodden
with water, please shut off your irrigation
system. This will help keep the landscapers
from tearing up your lawn when mowing.

owners.
$150,659 March expenses ($398,608 YTD)
As of the end of March there are 22 homes
with legal action pending.
Five homes were sold in March for a total of 10
year-to-date.

Anyone with a smartphone can now use the
Access Port St. Lucie smartphone application.
The 'app' is available for your mobile devices
from Apple App Store or Google Play.
Residents using this app can report issues with
vandalism, water leaks, litter and also upload a
picture or video. Once the concern is reported
you will receive updates on the status of the
request.
This method of reporting is available on your
mobile devices using this free app.
To report concerns using a desktop computer

NEW RESIDENT ORIENTATION
We had a good turnout of new residents for
the presentation on Saturday April 25th. Maria
Wells, from our Board of Directors, welcomed
the new residents and gave an overview of our
community and how it is governed. Maria then
had a question and answer period for the
group and fielded questions about living in
Lake Forest. Bud Sommers and Dan Bogan,
with the assistance of Tom Karczewski,
explained the information and links available
on the Lake Forest website,
www.lakeforestatslw.com. The CERT program
was explained and dates given for the next
classes. You can register online at
www.tcpublicsafetytraining.com. Handouts
included the Hurricane and Emergency
Preparedness Guide from the City of Port St
Lucie, the NOAA Extreme Weather Information
Sheet, and the Lake Forest Emergency Plan.
The radio communications network including
our Ham Radio link with the St Lucie
Emergency Operations Center was also
included. We are always looking for volunteers
who would be like to help our community in
preparedness, becoming a CERT member or
being a member of our Emergency Response

The time of our Disaster Exercise on May 16th
has been changed from 9:00AM to 10:00AM

CALLING ALL GOLF CARTS
Our Emergency Response Committee needs
Golf Cart owners and Carts for post disaster
assistance, to shuttle our emergency response
team members from the EOC (Emergency
Operating Center/Clubhouse) to the affected
areas within our community. This service will
provide critical information to the EOC needed
for expediting, emergency resources and
public services necessary for the fastest
recovery time possible and bringing Lake
Forest back to normal operations.

CITIZENS OBSERVATION PATROL
Does anyone know when Lake Forest started in
the Port St. Lucie Sheriff’s Department COP? If
you guessed or are part of the original
members you know that this all began in
2007. Our COP Lake Forest team has
volunteered many hours and have driven many
miles patrolling our community over the past 8
years.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING
Fire Extinguisher Training was held on April
18th, at the Clubhouse. Fifteen residents
attended both C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency
Response Team) qualified and non-qualified
and was received very well; with an excellent
Q&A session at the conclusion of the training.
Our next scheduled trainings will be on May
9th, Disaster Communications at 10:00AM and
June 13th, Post Disaster Assessment at
10:00AM; both trainings will be held at the
Clubhouse.

WE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU..!
We would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to
the leader of the COP team, Gladys Fuentes.
Gladys has been leading the team from its
inception. She keeps track of the hours and
miles of our volunteers and also completes
monthly reports to the Sheriff's department.
She handles any new volunteers, monitors the
current volunteers, ensures the COP vehicle is
maintained, coordinates the LF Night Out held
in August each year, ensures the House Watch
forms are filed timely and many other COP
hats.
We would like to thank all of our COP team
members for all their volunteer hours here in
our Lake Forest community, local parks and
maritime locations.
Our COP team members have patrolled within
Lake Forest for a total of 346.5 miles in the
first four months of 2015.
Whether you are a beginner or have many
years of experience the group will be happy to
have you join them.
For those that have been wanting to learn to
knit or crochet this group is very willing to
teach you. Just come to any of the meetings
(no supplies are needed at your first meeting).
One of the members of the group will talk with
you about what you want your first project to
be. They will explain what you need to
purchase and guide you along each week.
If you want to the learn to knit they may start
you with creating one of those wonderful
cotton dish clothes. Someone will get you
started the first day.

Our community is fortunate to be part of this
great program thru the Sheriff’s department
and volunteers are always needed. Every little
bit individuals volunteer helps to keep this
valuable program in our community.

ACTIVITY CORNER
Our Lake Forest Community has many
activities that are scheduled on a regular basis.
This month, Activity Corner will highlight the
Knitting and Crochet group.
Every Monday from 12:00PM until 2:00PM the
knitting and crocheting group meets in the
Clubhouse. Each week, during the winter
season there are approximately 10 - 12 ladies
that come together to work on their projects.
SUMMER FUN FOR LF CHILDREN
At a recent new home owners meeting at the
clubhouse, two mothers suggested it would be
nice for parents to come together with their
children over the summer.
Here are their thoughts …
The parent will need to accompany the child at
all events and is responsible for the child/
children at all times. Some suggestions for
events are: pool dates, park, beach, the Oxbow
Center, Elliott Museum, Stuart Oceanographic
Center, and the movies. Other suggestions are
welcome and can be planned by the parents.

suggestions, ages of children, interests and
times available.

RECIPES OF THE MONTH
Each newsletter we will share recipes
submitted by our friends and neighbors here
in Lake Forest. We encourage our Lake Forest
community to email their recipes, by the 22nd
of each month, to

Greek Style Scampi

Ingredients
1 tsp. of olive oil
5 garlic cloves – minced
2 cans of seasoned diced tomatoes (with basil and oregano) note: if you like a lot of tomatoes add an extra can
½ cup chopped fresh parsley
1¼ lbs of peeled, deveined large shrimp
1 cup of reduced fat feta cheese
2 tbsp. of lemon juice
¼ tsp of ground black pepper
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 400º.
For Crust: Mix flour, salt and ⅓ cup sugar in
medium bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender
or 2 knives till mixture is in fine particles. Mix in
egg. Squeeze dough together with your hands,
press ¾ of the dough in bottom and 2 inches up
sides of a 9" spring form pan.
For Filling: Slice the nectarines, do not peel, to
make about 1 quart; fold in blueberries, ½ cup
sugar, 3 tbsp flour and the cinnamon.
Pour filling into pastry shell; drizzle with the lemon
juice and honey. Crumble the remaining dough
over the top. Bake in 400 degree oven 45-60
minutes, till fruit is tender and top is browned. Lay
foil over top if browning too fast. Cool on wire rack
for 15 min, remove sides, cool completely to allow
fruit to set. Enjoy it with fresh whipped cream if
you like. It really is worth the effort.
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
Add tomatoes and ¼ cup of the parsley.
Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.
Add shrimp and cook for 5 minutes.
If your pan is ovenproof use same pan if not add
mixture to 13 x 9 baking dish and sprinkle with the
feta cheese.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
Sprinkle with remaining parsley, lemon juice and
pepper.
Serve with couscous or rice.
Enjoy this low fat meal!!
Nectarine-Blueberry Tart

Ingredients
2 cups flour
⅓ cup sugar plus
½ cup sugar
1½ sticks softened butter (no margarine)
5-7 nectarines, depending on their size - they do
not have to be ripe
1 cup fresh blueberries 1 egg, beaten
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice

and awareness to fight back and help end

Our Relay for Life Team meets at the Lake
Forest Clubhouse, the first Wednesday of the
month at 7:00PM. For additional information,

Relay for Life of 2015
The Lake Forest Relay for Life team once again
participated in the American Cancer Society
around that theme. Our Lake Forest team
chose to "go Jamaican" in memory of reggae
musician Bob Marley, who succumbed to
melanoma in 1981. We wore "rasta" style hats
and sold Jamaican beef patties, generously
donated by Peppers Lounge of Port St Lucie.
The event raised $95,414.39 to date, with
Lake Forest raising over $10,000.00 for its
eleventh consecutive year.
Relay for Life of SLW held at Tradition Field, on
Saturday April 25th, 2015.
This year, 63 teams and 692 participants
celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Relay for
Life, dedicating the event to the memory of
Relay's founder, Dr. Gordon "Gordy" Klatt, who
passed away on August 3, 2014, at the age of
71 from heart failure after battling stomach
cancer.
This year's event theme was "the 80's" with
each team creating campsites, costumes and
fundraising and an educational message
