Dear Young Readers, Parents and Teachers,
Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give
them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two
fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “ bring them here to me, “ and he
ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and
the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the
loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the
crowds (Matthew 14:16-19)
Thank you for your unconditional generosity in responding to the
call of Pondo ng Pinoy (PnP). In the short time since this movement was
founded, we have been able to prove that like the little boy who shared his
five loaves of bread and two fish in the Gospel story of the Multiplication
of Loaves, your daily saving of small amounts or setting aside little things
to be shared with those in need can indeed go a long way.
We are blessed that the Communication Foundation for Asia
(CFA), which has over 25 years of experience in publishing comics and
magazines for education and value formation, is doing its part to support
the cause of Pondo ng Pinoy. Starting with this June – July issue, CFA’s bimonthly Gospel Komiks Magazine and Gospel Komiks will include a series
of illustrated booklets or sections containing essential information and
education material on PnP, with real life case stories about the movement’s
beneficiaries. These stories are meant to show how the PnP philosophy
of the “little” and the theology of the “crumbs”, when lived and practiced,
can spell a big difference not just for our less fortunate brothers and
sisters but also for those of us who need to share our blessings with
others as we follow Christ’s message of love.
Therefore I wholeheartedly endorse Gospel Komiks Magazine for
high school students and Gospel Komiks for grade school students as
excellent educational reference materials on Pondo ng Pinoy. The
catechism on Pondo ng Pinoy has been made an essential part of all
Catholic schools’ Christian Living Curriculum, and I commend CFA for
transforming the materials into highly readable and interesting source
materials for our young students.

movement, a way
of making the
Good News of
Jesus Christ
find concrete
expression in the
lives of the people,
through Catechesis
and acts of goodness.
PONDO ng PINOY is a Community
Foundation, duly registered with the Securities
and Exchange Commission.
PONDO ng PINOY envisions all of
God’s people to attain
fullness of life in the
family, and
community in the
church. It aims to
bring about the total
development of
people — both the
giver and the
recipient — with the
Church rendering
assistance to address
widespread poverty caused by material,
economic, cultural, political and social
starvation limitations.

PONDO ng PINOY begins with the individual
being catechized at the person-to-person
level, or better still, in the family.
Catechetical modules have been prepared for
family evangelization. Sunday Mass homilies
will also help evangelize people on PONDO
NG PINOY. Students and teachers of Catholic
schools, colleges and universities will be
catechized as well as non-sectarian
educational institutions who wish to
participate.

PONDO ng PINOY’s catechesis focuses on
LOVE OF GOD and CONCERN FOR THE
POOR and the LESS FORTUNATE. PONDO
ng PINOY says that this love can be
expressed daily in small but good things done
for others, especially those in need. This
Christian practice promotes values rooted in
the Theology of the Crumbs whose profound
truth and value are based on biblical truths
cited in such
parables as the Rich
Man and Lazarus.
(Luke 16:19-31)
For did Lazarus not beg for the crumbs, which
fell from the rich man’s dining table laden with
sumptuous food? The crumbs would have
been enough to assuage Lazarus’ hunger, and
had the rich man Dives, not ignored his pleas,
the rich man would not have suffered the
torment of hell.

Thus the spirit of PONDO ng PINOY is LOVE
and SHARING… done in small things but
often, repeatedly and consistently as part of
one’s life and values. For what is important is
not how big the portions
given are but how
steadily one’s heart
beats for one’s
fellowman in need.
PONDO ng PINOY is “Anumang magaling
kahit maliit basta’t malimit ay patungong
langit.” This is Pondo ng Pinoy’s call to
action.

The “crumbs” are twenty-five centavos or
more but not more than one peso. Everyone
who feels the love of Christ and wishes to
share it with others in a consistent manner
can be part of PONDO ng PINOY.
All individuals living out the
Gospel in solidarity —
rich or poor, family
members, young or
old, students, out-ofschool youth,
professionals, priests
and religious — can
give to Pondo ng Pinoy.

Each giver is encouraged to have a distinctive
kind of receptacle (an empty softdrink or milk
can), to be uniquely labeled.
Individuals and families may choose any
receptacle for the coins they will contribute to
PONDO ng PINOY. The parish organization
or institution supporting the program may also
provide the labeled receptacles.
Receptacles (cans, envelopes, bottles,
baskets, etc.) should be labeled with the words
“PONDO ng PINOY” and if possible (but not
necessarily), should bear the logo. The label
may contain such information as the giver’s
name and the Parish (and address) where the
giver belongs.

Families or individuals make
their PONDO ng PINOY
offering during the Sunday
Mass at their parishes/
shrines or chapels, or give
directly to the parish office,
shrine or convent.
Employees may consign
their “crumbs” to their
respective companies
which are willing to act as
conduits of their
contributions to PONDO ng
PINOY.
Students in schools that are members of
CEAP and MAPSA may submit their “crumbs”
receptacles through their schools.
Only those who have realized the virtue of sharing may give
their “crumbs”. Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal
Rosales emphasizes that PONDO ng PINOY is not out just to
collect donations. Rather, it is an evangelization component
aimed at individual formation. “No one is allowed to give even
just 25 centavos if it is not out of love,” Cardinal Rosales said.

Binasbasan ni Hesus ang kaunting
pagkain. Ano pa’t ang binigay na
kaunti…dumami dahil naging bukas ang
puso ng ibang naroroon para ibahagi
ang kanilang dalang pagkain. Ito ang
tunay na milagro ng pagpaparami…
Sa iyong pagiging bukas-palad nakasalalay
ang tiwala, pag-asa at pagpapala ng iyong
mga nangangailangang kapatid...
Ito ang milagro ng pagbubukas ng
ating puso ni Hesus para matugunan
ang pangangailangan ng iba…
milagrong nangyayari sa inyong arawaraw na pag-ipon ng inyong 25
sentimos para sa Pondo ng Pinoy.
