Club (General) meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Old Caversham Racetrack
(Harrow Road, Caversham- see link for map on homepage) at 8 pm.
The Club was formed in 1980 and the objectives of the Club are:
The preservation and regular usage of Historic Competition Road Racing Motor Cycles & Sidecars in Western
Australia and to promote historic motor sport.
The Club is affiliated with the controlling body of motor cycle sport - Motorcycling Australia.
All events conducted by the Club are done so under the authority of MWA and the General Competition Rules
(GCRs) of Motorcycling Australia. Membership is open to anyone interested in historic motor cycles.
Ownership of an eligible machine is not a prerequisite.

Annual Competitor Membership: $80 Associate Membership: $40
HALL OF FAME - Bill Hargrave - President
Recently the Committee was asked to consider a nomination for life membership. Unfortunately, the person
nominated did not meet the requirements for election to Honorary Life Membership as detailed in our club’s
Constitution.
It was clear that we needed another way of recognising and honouring the careers and achievements in
motorcycle sport of some of our club members.
Bob Humphreys, who was a visitor at the committee meeting, came up with the perfect solution; a club
Hall Of Fame. Following a constructive discussion the committee agreed to establish the club’s Hall of
Fame immediately.
Unlike the election to Honorary Life Membership, which considers a member’s commitment to our club,
the Hall of Fame will focus on a member’s long-term or lifetime commitment to our sport. The Hall of Fame
will recognise the contribution made by a club member to motorcycling sport at state, national or international
level. Induction into the Hall of Fame is also an acknowledgement of sportsmanship and integrity.
A nominee may be a racing member, an official or a volunteer. Nominations for the Hall of Fame may be
made by any club member in writing to the General Committee, who will make the final decision.
Members who are inducted into our Hall of Fame will be presented with a framed commemorative certificate.
A replica of the certificate will be hung in our club room at Caversham.
The Committee also agreed that, following the inaugural inductions in 2014, a maximum of one person
per year may be inducted into the Hall of Fame. One club member has already been inducted and another
has been suggested as a possible second nominee. The name of the initial inductee and the place and
time of the presentation will be announced soon.
MoM KNOWS BEST... - Bill Hargrave - President
I hope you have all been on the MA website reading MoM’s words of wisdom. If not here is another snippet
from the rule book.
Directly after the Historic Road Racing Index (Chapter 14 on page 106) there is a paragraph called
Application of Chapter which states:
“The following Rules governing Historic Road Racing motorcycles are written to facilitate the organisation
of uniform and fair competition. The express purpose of these Rules is to ensure the motorcycles are in
a condition that is visually compatible with the period of racing being portrayed. These Rules are to be
interpreted so as to ensure that motorcycles are presented in the spirit of the period. All machines should
be prepared to a high standard of cosmetic appearance.”
Guys when preparing your bikes please keep this in mind, a well presented bike is usually a well prepared
bike.
APPLICANTS FOR A RACE LICENCE - Annie Tregger - Club Secretary
If you wish to obtain an MA Race Licence through this club you will need to attend at least one Tuning Day
so that you can be observed on the track by a Club Coach. Our club holds Tuning Days only on Saturdays
at Collie - the dates are on this website.
WANNEROO 25 MAY ROUND 3 - Annie Tregger
It had been six months since the club last raced at Wanneroo. The day before race-day was wet, wild and
cold with more of the same forecast but ..... on the day, the rain held off until the last three races.
It was a great turn-out, with ninety-nine machines in the program, including a fine turn-out of five P2's and
six P3's - keep the old'uns running!
The question of "slicks or no slicks" was quickly settled as those who'd come prepared for the wet realised
there wasn't any (until 4pm, that is).
There was quite a hold-up during the morning sessions when Mick McGeown's Honda threw a rod,
chainsawing its way through the cases (see photo) and causing a major oil spill. Unfortunately, collateral
damage included Ziggy Maeder and David Gapes who both came down in the oil. David was OK but Ziggy
is recovering from a broken collarbone - our best wishes for a return to racing soon, Ziggy. The Laverda,
however, is looking rather out of sorts (see photos).
One guy who loves it in the wet is Bob Humphreys, who was busy giving it heaps in the next-to-last race.
Hynesey, close behind Bob, seemed to be trying it too (from where we were watching) but met the bitumen
instead - just a few bruises to show. That race was red-flagged and the last race was cancelled due to
failing light, we understand.
By all accounts, everyone (except the casualties) enjoyed the day and there was a good turn-out at the
post-race sausage sizzle and presentation.
As always, thanks to all the volunteers and officials, particularly Carrie, our long suffering Race Sec. who
drove all the way from Morangup and our Steward, Graham, who travelled from Merredin to be there for
us. Another great day of motorcycling fun - let's hope there are many more.
