based on a one-minute minimum and 30-second increments. Calls placed from the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean use standard airtime, no roaming, and no long distance to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Calls to other Caribbean countries and other destinations will be charged long distance.

Globalstars satellite system is constantly in motion, orbiting at over 12,000
miles an hour, 876 miles above the earth. This eye in the sky is designed
to connect your call in the places and times that traditional communications
dont always work, providing critical backup or remote contact. Because the
connecting satellite is traveling in the sky, better visibility to the sky means
better call completion. When surrounded by buildings, or near hills or in
canyons, or when a satellite is otherwise unavailable, simply wait for the
next satellite to come into view before connecting.
Gateways: Redundancy, redundancy, redundancy.
Calls are connected from Globalstar satellites to one of 26 Globalstar gateways around
the world in order to route the call either to another Globalstar phone or into the
public telephone network. Gateway operations, satellite control, telecommunications
interconnects are all designed with redundant systems in order to offer unparalleled
service. Moreover, in the unlikely event of a gateway outage, Globalstar can provide
service to adjacent gateways as it did in Florida during the 2005 hurricanes.
