Welcome to Art in the Park 2015!
The Boulder City Hospital Foundation is pleased to host the 53rd annual
Art in the Park! Art in the Park is a grand tradition in our community
and Southern Nevada. This year’s event features more than 325 artists, a
variety of tasty food offerings and numerous other attractions.
As a leading renewable energy developer,
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power believes that solar
the
The funds raised through Art in the Park help Boulder City Hospital
continue services such as mental health services, inpatient physical
rehabilitation, Long Term Care plus numerous outpatient services like
Surgery, Radiology and Laboratory for our community, visitors and the
greater Clark County area.
Throughout our history, we have remained true to the idea of providing exceptional patient
services. From our Emergency Room, to our Home Health program, we continually look to
the future when making the necessary investments to keep the Hospital up-to-date with the
latest technology to constantly improve access and quality in the delivery of healthcare services.
The medical staff and support personnel are more than just highly trained professionals; they
are compassionate care givers. With over 200 physicians, representing nearly 22 specialties,
we are the only Critical Access Hospital in the area. Offering the healing touch when you need
it, our team of professionals are dedicated to providing personalized services that improve the
quality of life for our patients and our community.
Boulder City Hospital is the only hospital in Nevada that is not supported by a tax district,
other regulated subsidies or a corporate parent. The financial support generated by Art in the
Park contributes to our ability to continue to provide quality care close to home.
Please consider making a donation to Boulder City Hospital. You can visit our website at www.
bouldercityhospital.org to make a donation on line, or contact Wendy Adams at (702) 2930214.
Thank you for attending the event. Your support is appreciated!
Sincerely,
Thomas Maher

PARK
Southwest’s Largest Juried Outdoor
Art Festival is a Time-Honored
Boulder City Tradition
F
or many Southern Nevadans,
a treasured indication that Fall
is officially on the way appears as
temperatures start to lower, days get a
bit shorter and the beloved Boulder City
Art in the Park makes its appearance
the first weekend of October. Not only
is it an art lovers dream come true, it’s
the 53rd Anniversary of this signature
fund-raising event by the Boulder City
Hospital Foundation with all proceeds
going directly to the hospital and
underlines its mission to provide the
community with quality health care close
to home.
The annual event, which draws up
to 100,000 visitors, is comprised of a
varied and exciting range of artists,
craftsmen, culinary delights and live
entertainment. It is widely recognized as
the largest outdoor juried art festival in
the Southwest! This year’s event features
hundreds of artisans spread throughout
the heart of Boulder City amongst its
four beautiful parks. It’s simply amazing
that the Boulder City community has
spent the past half century ensuring its
residents are provided with superior
health care and it all started from humble
beginnings in 1962.
Reaching way back to the 1930’s
when Hoover Dam was a project guided
by the WPA, thousands of workers
descended upon the area to build one
of the major marvels of the world at the

time. Due to the strenuous (and often
times dangerous) work involved, the
government set up a facility to treat the
workers and their families associated
with the project.
As the early 50’s rolled around,
and with the project long done, it was
decided by the government to close
the facility. When the residents of this
quaint, beautiful town heard the news
it sent them into a grassroots mode
with the sole aim of saving the Hospital
and establishing a non-profit resource
for its residents. Through hard work
and innovative thinking the Women’s
Hospital Auxiliary organized the first
Art in the Park event in 1962 in Ralph
and Sarah Denton’s back yard to go
along with other fund raising events held
throughout the year.
As one of the city’s largest events,
Art in the Park wouldn’t be successful
without the combined efforts of
members of our communities. It is the
hard work of the Hospital Auxiliary,
Hospital staff, Boulder City Chamber
of Commerce, Boulder City Police and
Fire Departments, Boulder City Parks
and Recreation and the City of Boulder
City, that make this festival successful.
Everyone who can help comes out to
set up the area days before the show.
Countless hours of setting up booths,
registering hundreds of artists and being
sure that every little detail is covered
are managed by volunteers from in and
around the community.
Fine and traditional art, fine and
traditional crafts can all be found at
this spectacular event. Guests shop
till they drop then gain refreshment
at any number of food and beverage
booths. Art in the Park always features
a variety of food choices from hot dogs,
hamburgers, roasted corn on the cob,
barbecue sandwiches, Italian, Mexican,
Greek, Thai and Chinese fare. And then
the desserts and treats… funnel cakes,
kettle corn, roasted nuts, fruity bars,
frozen treats and more.
Entertainment is a standard at
Art in the Park. While strolling the
parks and viewing artist works, guests
are welcomed to relax in the shade at
Bicentennial Park with refreshments
while enjoying the stage entertainment
from Boulder City’s traditional gazebo
setting.
Since the inception of the festival
every talented artist has donated one
original piece to the Art in the Park raffle.
That tradition continues today, making
every raffle prize a “hot treasure!” Raffle
tickets are available at the event booth at
the west end of Bicentennial Park. Raffle
winners will be notified by phone and
may pick up their prizes at the event or
at the Boulder City Hospital Foundation
office.

As the Featured Artist for Boulder
City Hospital Foundation’s 53rd
Annual Art in the Park event,
By D. Kannon
Marble’s piece: ‘We Are All In This
No matter who you are or what you Together’ “perfectly embodies the
spirit and co-operative effort to
do, when you tear away people’s
bring much needed fundraising
titles, stereotypes, preconceived
notions and incorrect assumptions, for the hospital.” Wendy Adams,
Special Events Coordinator,
what’s left is what Robert Marble
has managed to brilliantly bring
to light with compassion and
humor—snap shots of our true
selves.
Boulder City Hospital.
Besides his more popular pieces
such as: ‘We Are Fierce,’ and
‘A Grin There A Tickle There
Happiness Is Everywhere,’ Marble
is displaying never seen originals
using Sintra Board that will give his
pieces a 3D effect.
With humor and humility, Marble’s
work reminds us we are all the
same no matter who we are or
what we do. So, stop by Booth #71
and have a laugh. You may even
recognize someone you know.
Robert Marble is an art major and
self-taught cartoonist who was
frustrated as an art director and
illustrator, so he decided to take a
chance and follow his own path by
uniquely portraying life and people
through his anthropomorphized
perspective.
With his creative use of animal
characters, emotion, colors,
textures, and his signature ‘redbird,’
his work continues to successfully
translate to the lighthearted

Boulder City Hospital: Quality Care Close to Home
B
oulder City Hospital is an 82-bed not-forprofit acute care critical access hospital
and skilled nursing facility, providing prompt,
compassionate, quality health care services.
We proudly serve the over 15,000 people, who
call Boulder City home, as well as countless
Las Vegas and Henderson residents and
visitors.
It has been an exciting year for Boulder
City Hospital and the Boulder City
community. Thanks to a loan from USDA
Rural Development, Boulder City Hospital
completed a major expansion and renovation.
This has brought us closer to reaching our
goal of becoming a full-service “age in place”
facility, which allows us to better serve our
growing senior population while still caring
for the needs of Boulder City residents and
our valued visitors. We are continuously
working to improve the healthcare services
available to our community.
Our new campus boasts a 10-Bed inpatient
Geriatric Behavioral Medicine Center,
an expanded physical and occupational
therapy gym equipped to rehabilitate a wide
variety of conditions for both inpatients and
outpatients, a state-of-the-art outpatient
surgery department, an expanded and
renovated Emergency Department, and an
expanded and renovated Long Term Care
unit to satisfy the increased demand of our
one-of-a kind residential skilled nursing
facility. Our brand new lobby allows for fast
and efficient registration services and has
the capacity to accommodate our patients
and guests in a comforting and welcoming
atmosphere.
As always, the Hospital remains committed
to serving the health care needs of our
community, providing 24-hour emergency
care, inpatient acute care, skilled nursing, and
a full array of ancillary services, as well as
Home Health and outpatient services.
Emergency Services
In an emergency situation, time is of the
essence. The Hospital provides quality
emergency care with minimal wait times.
16
Prompt, courteous, personal and professional
care is the cornerstone of our service.
Experienced emergency room physicians and
advanced cardiac life support certified nurses
have the ability to handle life threatening
situations, arising from sudden onset of
illness, accident or injury. Our Emergency
Department is open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week.
Outpatient Surgical Services
Our newly renovated Outpatient Surgical
Services department provides our community
with a much needed service. Our caring and
qualified staff is available Monday through
Friday to accommodate your same-day
surgery needs with the same quality of care
that is expected from Boulder City Hospital.
Geriatric Behavioral Medicine Center
Our new 10-bed Geriatric Behavioral
Medicine Center provides hope and
healing for those suffering from psychiatric
symptoms that can occur in the later part
of one’s life and which may co-exist with
other diseases or conditions. We specialize
in ensuring an overall understanding of
the illness and determining the best course
of care by offering individualized care in a
warm, supportive, confidential atmosphere.
Our experienced multidisciplinary team is
committed to best outcomes and treatment
plans suitable for the unique needs of each of
our patients.
Skilled Nursing Facility
The Hospital’s team of professionals is
dedicated to providing quality of life in
a home-like atmosphere. The care team
consists of your physician, registered
dietitian, social worker, activities director,
RN’s, LPN’s and certified nursing assistants.
Other available services include: physical
therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy,
respiratory therapy, restorative care, and
pharmacy and psychology consultations.
Daily activities are varied and geared towards
meeting the functional and cognitive levels of
all the residents.
Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
Boulder City Hospital’s newly expanded
outpatient therapy clinic offers physical,
occupational, and speech therapy services.
Friendly, caring and attentive staff provide
individualized therapeutic programs for:
neck and back injury; shoulder and arm pain;
hand and wrist pain; leg, hip, knee, ankle
and foot pain; post-surgical rehabilitation;
neurological conditions; balance and gait
impairments; TMJ and wound care.
Laboratory Services
Boulder City Hospital’s clinical laboratory’s
state of the art in-patient and out-patient
services include: chemistry (electrolytes, liver
and kidney panels, lipid panels); hematology;
coagulation test; transfusion service; thyroid
tests and PSA. We are a designated Quest
draw station and are able to accommodate
same day appointments, without the wait.
Radiology Services
Boulder City Hospital’s Radiology and
Diagnostic Imaging, affiliated with Desert
Radiologists, offers state of the art services
to both in-patient and out-patients. Trained
and certified radiologists and radiology
technologists with years of experience are
available during normal business hour and on
call 24/7 for your emergency needs
Mental Health: Partial Hospitalization
Program
Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
for adults meets the needs of people who are
able to remain in the community but require
additional support. The program provides
structured and intensive behavioral health
care five days a week. The Program is staffed
by a multi-disciplinary team that includes
psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social
workers, and psychiatric nurses.
Home Health Agency
Boulder City Hospital’s Home Health Agency
is staffed by caring, qualified professionals
working together to provide services
to enhance rehabilitation, recovery and
independence in the comfort of one’s own
home. Our highly trained professionals are
qualified to provide the following services:
skilled nursing; physical, occupational and
speech therapy; medical social worker and
home health aide.

Boulder City Hospital Foundation
T
he Boulder City Hospital Foundation is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) organization established
in 1995, whose purpose is to raise funds for the non-profit Boulder City Hospital
through fund development and special events.
While Art in the Park is the Foundation’s Signature fundraising community event, the
Foundation is actively involved in civic groups and produces or co-produces events
that promote awareness about health, wellness and community issues.
Among these events is the annual Heart of the Community Gala which honors
individuals who have made significant cultural impact in our community. Past
recipients include Dr. Florence and Gard Jamison, Sara and Ralph Denton, Darlene
and Vern Burk, Former Mayor Bob Ferraro, Linda and Robert Faiss, and Rose and
Bruce Woodbury.
Please mark your calendars and join us at any of our upcoming events:
Heart of the Community Gala, May or June 2016 (exact date to be
announced soon)
The evening’s fundraiser will take place at Green Valley Ranch from 5:30pm to 10pm.
Join us for cocktails and live and silent auctions.
54th Annual Art in the Park, October 1 & 2, 2016

Hospital. Your financial support ensures Boulder City Hospital can provide

Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary
Boulder City Hospital and the Foundation are grateful for support from Hospital Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary created the first “Art in the Park” festival 53 years ago. Today, the Auxiliary
continues to raise funds through a variety of activities including Goldie’s Gift Shoppe. The
Auxiliary supports numerous Hospital programs. In addition, the group funds yearly
scholarships supporting study in health care. Auxiliary members volunteer more than
10,000 hours yearly to the hospital in addition to the funds raised and contributed. To
learn more about the Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary or how to become a member, please
