Annual RSVP+ Recognition Luncheon Monday, May 16, 2011 12 Noon Doublewood Inn Entertainment: Tom Roble Tom Roble was born & grew up in Harvey, ND. While in High School, he picked up the guitar and fell in love with the acoustic guitar. Tom played in the high school band & in his father’s band “The Swing Kings”. He began writing songs and making Compact Disks and Albums of his material. After High School, Tom attended NDSU where he played in the university band and was in the 188th National Guard Army Band located in Fargo, ND. Tom has been playing the coffee house scene in Fargo for at least fifteen years with great enjoyment. According to the North Dakota State Data Center and the US Census Bureau's 2010 population projections, 43.7% of the state's residents are age 45 or older (nationally 39.2%), 28.9% are 55 and older (nationally 24.7%), and 17.1% are 65 and older (nationally 13%). Chronic illnesses related to aging, therefore, affect a larger proportion of North Dakota's population than that of most other states. One such chronic illness is osteoporosis--a bone deteriorating condition affecting 1 in 4 women over the age of 45 and 9 out of 10 women over the age of 75. Although the disease affects men and women, 80% of all those diagnosed are women. Bone Builders is a specific, weights-based exercise program designed to address osteoporosis risk, especially bone fractures that so often lead to the loss of independent living. Bone Builders has shown to stop bone loss and even build bone mass with participants who regularly attend classes. RSVP+ Southern Valley is seeking local partners in the ND Counties of Barnes, Cass, Griggs, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele, Traill and MN—Clay to host and fund local programs. RSVP Bone Builders classes are free to all participants and are led by RSVP+ volunteers who have been extensively trained. Trainers are provided with an RSVP Bone Builders Volunteer Trainer t-shirt identifying them as such. Program Components: Host Station: Local agency or organization will provide meeting space. Local Funder(s): Local groups/organizations/business will fund local program. Program Cost: $700-$800 (weights, storage, marketing, training, volunteer t-shirts) Participant Cost: FREE to all participants Training: RSVP+ will recruit and train volunteer trainers and administrators. PR & Marketing: RSVP+ will work in partnership with Host Station. Program Continuity: RSVP+ will work closely with Host Station to address recruiting, training, marketing and ongoing logistical needs through regular communication and periodic site visits. Volunteers who reported 60 or more hours between July 1 and December 31, 2010, will receive a recognition card. The first edition of the RSVP ThanksU card features exciting offers from Anytime Fitness and Thrifty White Pharmacy locations throughout the state, as well as from Warford Orthodontics based in Bismarck. There is also a special bonus “thank you” from RSVP+. Cards are available at the RSVP+ Southern Valley office and will be good through August, 2011. Future editions of the RSVP ThanksU card will have other kinds of offers and recognitions, so be sure you are sending in your timesheets on a regular basis.
