www.greene.k12.oh.us November 2007 ESC INSIDER NEWSLETTER Greene County Educational Service Center November Birthdays • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Katherine Lupinek – 1st Anita Sams – 4th Mary Mancuso – 5th Mary Ann Fenwick – 9th Karen Quinones – 9th Jeff Conrad – 10th Jeanne Nathan – 11th Pat Stewart – 13th Tonya Wilson – 13th Marcia Wylie – 13th Annette Pauley – 17th Julie Bosse – 19th Peggy Roesser – 20th Mary Williamson – 21st Kathy Keipper – 22nd Annette Fulton – 26th Kristin Douglass – 29th SUPERINTENDENT UPDATES Governor Strickland’s wife, Francis, recently visited the Greene County Family and Children First Council. The ESC received a very large compliment from the Council as they chose to have Mrs. Strickland visit the Friends Preschool Program, hold the large group meeting with Mrs. Strickland here at the ESC, and asked us to share the success of our School Based Mental Health Program in this meeting. I have mentioned many times how proud I am of the work all of you do and this is reaffirmed and enhanced when the rest of the County acknowledges their respect. Therapy Calendars Online In one more effort to reduce the moving around of paper, our therapists now have their calendars online. Our Districts as well as others can access a read only look at individual calendars by going to www.greene.k12.oh.us/calendarsummary.htm and follow additional directions. Hopefully this will be of help to anyone who would like to meet with a therapist while in a specific building or to know where they might call to contact them. I believe the song goes: I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer, well God almighty which way do I steer for my cheeseburger in paradise. Who needs Jimmy Buffet when the ESC has its Big Cheese, Skip Hoyt? Skip wowed Ohio’s first lady, Francis Strickland during her visit on October 17th. I believe she would have rather listened to Skip all evening rather than be at the business meeting. Big thank you to Skip for entertaining and I believe he was just as thrilled once he realized she was in fact “The First Lady of Ohio.” Calendar Notations • • • November 7th – Retirement Open House for Glenda Adams from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. November 8th – ESC November Board Meeting at 9:30 a.m. November 21-23rd – Thanksgiving Holiday – No School ESC Offices open on November 21st ESC INSIDER NEWSLETTER Page 2 of 2 Weather Related Closings Just a reminder of our procedures for weather related school closings. If you are assigned or housed full time in a district you will follow that district’s announcements. If you split between districts you will have to listen to what both are doing or go by your daily assignment. Some reminders for the following school settings. Learning Center – follows what the majority of schools do. Terry Thomas makes the decision to close. Academy follows Xenia Community Schools closings. Outdoor Advantage – follows the Learning Center. All ESC programs ignore delays as far as staff reporting to work. The ESC office will be open unless extreme conditions exist. The Learning Center and the Academy have phone trees to inform staff when they will be closed. We are involved in Channel 7’s School Watch Program. This should be the most up-to-date place to check because it is now phone automated. With one call we can make changes that will appear within a few minutes. This one phone call also updates their affiliates and web pages. So, watch Channel 7 or listen to 1290 WHIO-AM or K99.1 FM on radio or log onto whiotv.com, k99online.com, or 1290whio.com for quick updates. We will still be notifying channels 2 and 22. “EMIS” We Need You As many of you know, Marnie Mangan is our full-time EMIS Coordinator and she needs your help. EMIS has evolved to the point that it is through this reporting that the ESC receives any/and all state funding. The state has become much more strict on its allowable timelines and unfortunately often gives us a very small window for staff to report data and for Marnie to get it submitted. The next very important deadline is the December count. Marnie needs to report caseloads, attendance and student status as of December 3, 2007. You must complete all of your data by Friday, December 7th in order to have it accurately submitted. Any students not accurately reported can negatively effect the funding our Districts or the ESC receives, or at best delay us receiving some funding. So, please note these December dates and plan on having your data to Marnie or your appropriate supervisors as close to December 3rd as possible. We need you to protect our services and state funding. BOARD MEETING UPDATES: BOARD MINUTES ARE ON THE GOVERNING BOARD PAGE OF OUR ESC WEB PAGE www.greene.k12.oh.us Thinking of You Several members of the ESC Family have had to deal with some major health issues this fall.
