For 28 years, 98.7 KUPL has been a country music leader and proud
community partner in Portland, Oregon serving as a Public Service messenger
with our Exclusive “Friends & Neighbors” campaign as well as a passionate
liaison for several annual live and local events including the Clackamas Town
Center Shooting Benefit Concert on December 22, 2012 and Stars and Guitars
Concert benefitting Active and Former Military and First Responders on
September 9, 2012.
Given the tragedy in our own backyard at Clackamas Town Center on
December 11th; KUPL came together with Duke’s Bar and Grill to hold a Benefit
Concert. The Clackamas Town Center Benefit Concert featured headliner
Crystal Bowersox from American Idol as well as several local country artists
and raised over $8000 that was donated to the victims’ families of the
shooting.
The KUPL Stars and Guitars concert on September 9, 2012 featured Craig
Morgan, Lonestar, Dustin Lynch, The Mavericks and local Police Officer and
Country Artist; Kurt Van Meter. Over 3000 listeners attended the outdoor
show at Alderbrook Park in Southwest Washington and a portion of the
proceeds was donated to several Military and First Responder charitable
organizations.
The KUPL nonprofit Friends and Neighbors project helps local organizations
that would not otherwise have the funds or resources to promote their
charitable cause and gives them a voice on the station. This project has
grown so large working car washes, pancake breakfasts, donkey basketball
games in addition to building houses and participating in ‘runs’, ‘walks’ and
a variety of many more fundraisers that KUPL has dedicated a station vehicle
and manager to schedule these events. In 2012, KUPL contributed over
5000 staff hours to public service activities and causes in our area,
supported over 225 nonprofit community initiatives and produced 10 major
fundraising events.
