2014 Harding Homecoming Court
Alexandra Abrams
Alexandra
Abrams is a member
of Top Ten this year.
After high school she
plans on going to
North or South Carolina and attend college
in which ever state she
moves to. She plans
on getting a medical
degree to become a
plastic surgeon. “The
main reason I want to
be a plastic surgeon is
to help children and
adults with clephia.”
Abrams was
shocked when she
found out she was on
the Top Ten. She never thought this would be true. It was actually the last
thing on her mind. “I felt honored and proud of who I
was as a person to have my classmates vote me as one
of the Top Ten ladies. I just would like to say, thank
you to everyone!”
She participates in symphonic chorale, varsity
football cheerleader, and a 4th grade football cheerleading coach for Marion Youth Football. Her escort
is Jacob Stanley.
“My favorite high school memory is walking in
the hallway and always yelling at Coach Schneider to
see his ugly face get red and to turn into a miniature
incredible hulk,” says Abrams. Another one would be
meeting Dallas Wilkins.
Abrams’ advice for underclassmen is to make
choices wisely. She looks back and wishes she would
have studied better. “Your education should be your
main priority and you should make a promise to yourself that you are going to go to school every day and
give it your all as if you are working hard in a factory
trying not to lose your job. But at the end of the day
you should have fun the right way!”
Jenna Houdashelt
When Jenna
Houdashelt found
out she made Top
Ten she said, “I
was shocked and
very honored to
have been chosen! I couldn’t
wait to spend the
next few weeks
with the other
nine girls,
they’re all so
amazing!”
After high
school Jenna plans to attend the University
of Toledo to study something in the medical
field. She currently participates in Symphonic Choir, Orchestra, Harding Singers, school
musicals, FCA, National Honor Society. She
is also in the top 10 percentile of the class.
The advice she would give underclassmen is “to be who you are and say what you
feel, because those who mind don’t matter,
and those who matter don’t mind.”
Jenna said that she doesn’t have any specific favorite memory, she has just absolutely loved spending some of the best years of
her life with such great people, and “I’ve
made so many memories with them!”
Olivia Davis
Among the
Homecoming Court
of 2014 will be
Olivia Davis. Olivia
will be escorted by
Martin Prude.
Olivia’s initial
reaction to being
voted onto the
Homecoming Court
was that she was
extremely surprised,
excited, and sad all
at the same time.
Olivia was surprised
she made it, excited to be spending the next few
weeks with all of her friends, and sad because it
just hit her that her senior year of high school had
actually begun.
Olivia participates in many activities at
Harding including varsity volleyball, varsity
track, varsity basketball, symphonic chorale, and
Singers.
After high school, Olivia plans to play volleyball and run track on a scholarship at a fouryear college. She wants to study occupational
therapy or exercise science while catching up on
all of the sleep she lost in high school.
Throughout Olivia’s years at Harding, her
favorite memories have been all of the bus rides
and locker room pre-games with her teammates.
The advice Olivia would like to give to underclassmen would be: “Be yourself, cherish every
moment, and always work hard at everything you
do. Success is earned, not given.”
Congratulations, girls!
Alyssa Foust
Alyssa Foust is
one of the ten girls
chosen by her class to
be on Homecoming
Court. She will be
escorted by Versace
Backus.
Alyssa participates in basketball,
Student Section, Telecom, and International Club. After
high school Alyssa
plans to attend Ohio
State University and
study Psychology.
Her advice to underclassmen would be, “Get involved, be nice, always
be a role model and always keep a smile on your
face.”
“Staying the night at Harding for a basketball
sleepover in the wresting room, and swinging
across the room on the rope from the ceiling acting
like Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball with Taylor
McIntire, Olivia Davis and Ashlee Davis. Then
Coach Geyer came in so we had to act like we were
sleeping,” says Alyssa, on her favorite memories in
high school. “I also love when Ms. McCombs always says ’That’s it, that’s really it’ in her notes, I
always catch myself saying it with her,” Alyssa
goes on.
Alyssa wasn’t expecting to be on Top Ten so
when she found out she made it she was completely
shocked because she didn’t think people really
knew her enough to vote for her.
Abigail Hughes
Abigail Hughes
is one of the Top
Ten girls for
Homecoming.
“The advice I
would give is to
just be yourself.
Don’t let stereotypes and other
people consume
who you are.
Focus on grades,
don’t procrastinate,” Abigail
says, on her advice to underclassmen.
“I plan on attending Ohio State University to major in education in high school
English and minor in psychology, to then
become a guidance counselor.”
Abigail was on the swim team her freshman year, was a member of freshman choir
and symphonic choir, student section, orchestra, and FCCLA.
“My favorite memories would have to
be football games and being a member of
choir. It truly is amazing when you create
friendships that evolve into one big family.”
“My initial reaction was pure shock. It’s
a huge honor and I’m very blessed with this
opportunity, and I could not possibly be
more thankful,” says Hughes.
Abigail will be escorted by Preston
Daniel.
The Harding Herald congratulates
all the nominees for Homecoming Queen.
Best of luck to the Prexies at the Homecoming Game against Toledo Scott!
The Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, September 27, from
8:00 — 11:00 p.m. in the Cafetorium.

2014 Harding Homecoming Honor Guard
Cheyenne Abrams
Teen Institute, student
government, student
body vice president,
Telecom, Herald, student section, cheerleading, tennis and Ohio’s
Youth-Led Prevention
Network Youth Council
are among the things
that Cheyenne Abrams
has been a part of
throughout high school.
After college Cheyenne wishes to attend
either University of
Kentucky or Ohio University for journalism and photography. “My biggest goal is to become a sports journalist,” says
Abrams.
“Stay in school, don’t do drugs, and never turn
in your work late to Mr. Foreman,” says Cheyenne,
when asked to give advice to the underclassmen.
Many of Cheyenne’s favorite memories in high
school came from her junior year. “It’s either when
tennis partner, Haley, accidentally knocked a girl
out in the bathroom at Wendy’s after a match, or
when my friends and I decided to do a Chinese fire
drill and ended up with corn in the back seat of the
car and a smashed phone,” Abrams stated.
Cheyenne was very anxious when she found out
about Top Ten. “Surprised to say the least, but a lot
of the girls I’ve grown up with are on Top Ten with
me, so it should be a breeze,” Cheyenne goes on.
Cheyenne will be escorted by Marco Rodriguez.
Harlee Conley
“Don’t take things
too seriously. Have
fun! Senior year really does come before
you know it,” said
Harlee Conley when
asked what advice
she would give to
underclassmen.
After high school she
plans to “go to Ohio
State University and
major in radiation
therapy, treatment for
cancer patients.”
Throughout her high school career
Harlee has participated in National Honor Society, AP classes, symphonic choir, pop choir, freshmen choir, Powder Puff football, freshmen volleyball, freshmen basketball, and The Ohio State
University math tournament. Currently she is
participating in National Honor Society, AP classes, and works at Pizza Hut.
“DOMINATING Kaleb Irey in last year’s
math competition,” Conley said is her favorite
high school memory.
When she found out she made Top Ten she
was “completely shocked.”
Harlee Conley will be escorted by Jonathan
Brazell.
“I have been in charge of the Homecoming festivities for nine years now. It is always an honor and privilege to work with the Top 10 Homecoming candidates.
I tell the girls they are chosen for much more than being beautiful young ladies. They are chosen by their
classmates for their character, class, and talent. I also
tell them that they have an important impact on the
Marion community. There are community members
who see them at Perkins and at the football game. It
really shows that Harding High School produces lovely, classy, intelligent, respectful young
ladies.
“There are a lot of duties that I fulfill behind the
scenes to make this a truly special and memorable
event for these young ladies. They are wonderful and I
wish them the best as they finish their senior year. I
hope they carry these memories with them for a lifetime.”
—Shelly McCombs, Homecoming Coordinator
Kristi Franklin will be
escorted by Nate
Deprey.
“When I found out I
made Top Ten I was
more surprised than
anything,” says Kristi.
After high school Kristi
plans to graduate with
her STNA and then go
back to college to become a pediatric nurse.
“I also wouldn’t mind being a nurse in the navy,”
Franklin goes on.
Throughout high school Kristi has participated
in football cheerleading, basketball cheerleading,
health tech, student section, and Teen Institute.
“My favorite high school memory was my
sophomore year in Mrs. Scott’s class when Addison, Marina, Tiffany, Devon and I did our video of
the bone parts we broke and Addison and I had to
fall down the stairs like 20 times and actually had
bruises from it,” says Franklin.
“Be yourself and get involved in school sports
and activities,” is Kristi’s advice to underclassmen.
Emily Hooper
Jasmine Gaffney
Jasmine Gaffney is
also a part of the Honor Guard. She will be
escorted to the assembly by Mason Brammer.
She is involved in
music program including orchestra, symphonic orchestra, symphonic choir, and the
school musical. Other
activities Jasmine takes
part in include The
Voice Committee, leadership committees, and
Mock Trial.
Jasmine was so
happy to make it into
the Top 20 Homecoming Queen candidates that she
was “extremely shocked” to be in the Top Ten. She is
honored to be considered Top Ten material by her
classmates.
After high school, Jasmine plans to enter either
Ohio State University of Marion or Marion Technical
College. After a period of two years, she wishes to
transfer to Ohio State University or Kent State University to finish a major of zoology and a minor in
business.
Out of all of her high school memories, Jasmine's
favorite is from last year's leadership retreat. “There
was a big shaving cream battle between the males and
the females. We were covered head to toe in shaving
cream,” Jasmine says about the fight.
To the underclassmen, Jasmine says to “live up”
during the remainder of their time in high school. She
says that you should be involved around the school
with different clubs and activities. “The years go by
fast so make the years you have left memorable. Make
it so that when you look back on your high school
career, you never regret anything.”
Kristi Franklin
2014
“Work hard, play
hard, because high
school goes by fast and
you need to be prepared,” is Emily Hooper’s advice to underclassmen.
After high school
Emily plans to attend
Columbus College of
Art and Design to pursue an art career,
“Maybe as a tattoo
artist or teacher,” says
Hooper.
“When I made Top
20 it was unbelievable.
When I made Top 10 I
was shaking with excitement. I never thought I’d be on Honor Guard.
Thanks, everyone who voted for me,” states Hooper.
Throughout high school, Emily was involved in
Harding’s art club and prom-com, she also really enjoyed her senior year with her best friend Neysa, although there were too many memories to pick from.
Emily will be escorted by Devin Muche.
