DON’T MISS OUT
LONDON, ENGLAND
Also known as Fireworks Night, the fifth of
November marks Guy Fawkes Day with firework displays across the whole
of London. The main pyrotechnics take place on 5 November, but events run
into the weekend. In addition to the celestial displays, family-friendly activities include fun fairs,
food stalls, and shows. Most events are ticketed, but some – including the Blackheath Fireworks
night on 7 November – remain free to attend.

Celebrated 15 days after Diwali, Dev Deepawali
– Diwali of the Gods – is believed to be the
day when the gods descended to earth to
take a dip in the River Ganges. The traditional
schedule of spiritual events includes prayers
and offerings to Lord Ganesh; devotees also
take a dip in the holy river to symbolically rid
themselves of their sins. Every ghat (riverside
stepped embankment) and temple in the city
is lit with countless earthen lamps (diyas)
on the night, while locals and tourists throng
the riverside to watch the spectacular aarti
religious rituals at the ghats amidst countless
flickering candles.
