Let us start with its looks, the visual impression of the Padua.
The elegantly shaped cabinet will impress you with its perfectly matched
proportions as it recalls the exceptional grace and splendour of the
Virgo. The cabinet front is richly finished in a lustrous real veneer and
much attention is paid to the perfect matching of front panel and drivers.
The tweeter, visually emphasised by a fine metallic-grey varnish, is
provided with its own insulated baffle in order to avoid vibrations interfering with its excellent dynamics.
Let me see, tall and slim it should be. And I wish for a
very high and spatial detail resolution and a finely
contoured dynamic picture. In addition it should know
how to blow your mind. I also wish it was available for a
reasonable price, that I could treat myself to buy it and
never regret my decision.

Die neue Padua!
In einem Preisbereich angesiedelt, in der die berühmte
Virgo2 zu einem der meistverkauften und geschätzten
Schallwandler seiner Klasse avancierte, profitiert die
Padua von den Innovationen ihrer technischen Vorreiter
Virgo3 und Avanti3.
The drivers are vintage Audio Physic and of the usual excellent
quality expected of us. The 1'' hand-coated silk membrane of the tweeter
excels at a completely resonance-free response, up to and exceeding
33kHz.
The use of a double magnet configuration results in high sensitivity with
low distortion.
Much thought has been given to the design and accomplishment of
the front plate in order to avoid diffraction at the cabinet edges, an
important prerequisite to achieve the legendary three-dimensional
Audio Physic sound.
For those interested in the technological aspects: According to the
latest research conducted in the field, Cepstrum-analysis has become a
viable method for the measurement of diffraction. Here the ripple
factor of the frequency range is used for the determination of an echo
delay time.
When applied to Audio Physic loudspeakers in our own measurement
laboratory, the Cepstrum-analysis yields excellent results. The midrange
driver design, derived from the cutting-edge Avanti technology, provides
high performance due to the effectively applied Active Cone Damping
Technology. The ACD technology significantly improves the listening
quality. It has been implemented by Audio Physic in order to avoid
unpleasant resonances and ringing normally associated with stiff cones
and also to exploit the inherent advantages such as high dynamics,
resolution and linearity.
The function of ACD is explained in the following example. Imagine
that you are holding up an empty cocktail glass with your left hand.
Now tap the glass with your right index finger and you will hear the
sound of a very high and long tone. Repeat the same experiment
but this time grasp your hand fully around the glass.
When you now tap the glass it will only emit a dull sound.
Bass performance is realised via two 8" long-throw woofers with
progressive suspension which are located on both sides of the enclosure,
according to the principles of our advanced push-push technology successfully implemented since 1988.
Here the key to success is to achieve high sensitivity and superior
dynamics which are coupled with a protection against mechanical
overload. The state-of-the-art woofers selected for the loudspeaker are
housed in an optimally damped bass-reflex enclosure.

The low-frequency range of the Padua is provided with a roomgain
response based on the characteristics of a typical listening room.
This feature ensures that the tonal balance is perfect at your
listening position. The Padua is again a credit to the name of
Audio Physic and the loudspeaker is nothing short of meeting the highest
expectations. This also includes its other fine technical features ranging
from a superb crossover network featuring low-loss inductors and capacitors to top-quality cables and connectors.
The Padua loudspeakers are manufactured in pairs, they are
visually and acoustically matched, and the output deviation of
each pair is held
to ± 0.5 dB over the entire frequency range.
The loudspeakers come with grilles and feet finished in a
metallic-grey varnish.

Beginnen wir mit der Optik, mit dem visuellen Eindruck:
Das Gehäuse punktet mit den gleichen Proportionen,
die auch die Virgo so außergewöhnlich elegant
erscheinen lassen. Die Ummantelung der Front
mit echtem Furnier erzeugt die optimale Furnier-Stimmigkeit
von Front und Korpus. Optisch hervorgehoben durch die edle metallicgraue Lackierung arbeitet der Hochtöner auf einer eigenen, von
Vibrationen isolierten Schallwand.
Die Lautsprecherchassis bieten Ihnen die gewohnt hervorragende
Qualität, die Sie zu Recht von Audio Physic erwarten dürfen.
Die handbeschichtete Seidenmembrane mit 25mm Durchmesser verleiht dem Hochtöner ohne Resonanzen den weiten Frequenzbereich
bis über 33kHz. Das Doppelmagnetsystem ermöglicht einen hohen
Wirkungsgrad bei niedrigen Verzerrungen.
Die Frontplatte ist bewusst so gestaltet, dass es im Bereich der Übernahmefrequenz nicht zu Beugungen an der Gehäusekante kommen
kann und erfüllt damit eine wichtige Vorraussetzung für den berühmten
3-dimensionalen Audio Physic Klang.
Für technisch Interessierte: Die Kantenbeugung wird nach neuesten
Erkenntnissen mit der Cepstrum Analyse gemessen. Hierbei wird aus
der Welligkeit des Frequenzgangs ein Echo-Kriterium abgeleitet.
Audio Physic Lautsprecher schneiden bei dieser Cepstrum Analyse, die
in dieser Form bislang nur bei Audio Physic durchgeführt wird, hervorragend ab. Der direkt aus der Avanti abgeleitete Mitteltöner glänzt
durch die auch hier angewandte Active Cone Damping Technologie.
Ihr Hörerlebnis verbessert sich durch dieses Detail deshalb so enorm,
weil wir damit die unangenehmen Obertöne von harten
Membranmaterialien in den Griff bekommen und deren Vorteile wie
hohe Dynamik, Auflösung und Linearität voll nutzen können.
Vereinfacht lässt sich die Funktion von ACD so erklären:
Stellen Sie sich ein leeres Cocktailglas vor, das Sie frei in der linken
Hand halten. Schlagen Sie nun das Glas mit dem rechten Zeigefinger
an. Sie werden einen hellen, langanhaltenden „Ping“ Ton hören.
Halten Sie nun das Glas mit der linken Hand umrandet und machen
Sie das gleiche Experiment. Sie hören nur noch einen dumpfen
„Tock“ Ton.
Im Tieftonbereich setzen wir auf unsere schon seit 1988 bewährte und
immer weiter entwickelte Push-Push Technologie, angewandt im Padua
Gehäuse durch ein Paar 20cm Langhubtreiber mit progressiver
Zentrierung. Der gewünschte Erfolg zeigt sich in dem hohen
Wirkungsgrad und der guten Dynamik kombiniert mit mechanischem
Überlastungsschutz. Die Treiber arbeiten auf ein optimal
bedämpftes Bassreflexvolumen.
Der Frequenzgang der Box bietet eine Roomgain Charakteristik unter
Einbeziehung eines typischen Hörraums. Sie erhalten also ein auf Ihren
tatsächlichen Hörplatz zugeschnittenes Ergebnis.
Weitere Details wie die Frequenzweiche mit verlustarmen Spulen und
Kondensatoren, hochwertige interne Verkabelung und
Anschlussbuchsen erfüllen alle berechtigten Erwartungen an
Lautsprecher mit unserem Namen.
Die Lautsprecher werden als optische und akustische Paare mit
Toleranzen von weniger als +- 0,5 dB ausgeliefert.
Zum Lieferumfang gehören Chassisabdeckungen genauso wie lackierte
Füße in metallic-grau.
