BILL HILDEBRANDT
BILL HILDEBRANT HEADLINES THE
2014 GROSSE POINTE CRISIS CLUB
COMEDY NIGHT FUNDRAISER
Friday, October 10th
Our recently held Kotcher’s Kapers
Golf Outing was a wonderful day for
all who were able to attend. I would
like to thank all of the volunteers and
golf committee members who, yet
again, did another outstanding job of
hosting our yearly fundraising event.
I strongly encourage our membership
to support our events because this is
how we raise the funds to help those
in crisis situations. Our requests for
help continue to increase and, without the support of our membership
attending our fundraising events, we
will not be able to keep up with the
demand for help.
The 11th Grosse Pointe Crisis Club Comedy Night, on Friday October 10th,, will feature
native Detroiter Bill Hildebrant as our headliner with special guest Gary George.
I cannot believe that Fall will soon
be upon us, but that means our annual Comedy Night is fast approaching. Please mark your calendars for
Friday, October 10th for a night of fun
filled comedy, great food and drinks,
good friends and best of all, raising funds to continue our mission of
helping others. I do not know of any
other venue that provides so much
Again, this year’s show will be hosted by the Clubs’ resident Master of Ceremonies
Rich Higginbottom.
Continued on Page 3
Bill Hildebrandt is known for his uncanny ability to make the ordinary explode into a
paradox of comedy. Bill has headlined clubs, casinos, college and corporate shows
and has shared the stage with Judy Tenuta, Rita Rudner, and Rosie O’Donnell and
opened for classic Rock & Roll bands such as Huey Lewis and the News and the
Doobie Brothers. For 12 years, he worked in Las Vegas at the renowned comedy
club at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.
Listed as one of the “Funniest People in Detroit” by the Detroit Free Press, Bill is a
surefire hit.
Another Michigan native, opening this year’s show, is seasoned veteran Gary
George. Gary has been writing comedy and entertaining audiences for more than
twenty years. With the looks of “the average guy next door”, Gary finds humor in
offbeat situations, relationships and the subtle things in life most of us miss. Gary
has performed with such heavyweights as Tim Allen, Drew Carey, Weird Al, Robert
Klein, Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan.
Past attendees say Comedy Night is “the best value on the Eastside”. We offer
generous cocktails, great food and excellent entertainment, all for $40 per person.
Bring your family, neighbors, friends and business associates and introduce them
to an outstanding Crisis Club event.
Comedy Night details can be found in the flyer included with this newsletter. Doors
open at 6:30 P.M.
Reservations are strongly encouraged, so please confirm your attendance by contacting Ted Eikhoff, by email [email protected] or phone at 313-407-9132.

Crisis Case Corner
Thank You Notes Received
Case 1506
J. Oreson – D. Vormelker
A Club member referred a single mother who has four daughters. Her rental home and all their belongings were destroyed
by fire. The mother receives child support and food stamps
and her parents are assisting the family but are retired and
have a limited income. The Club assisted by paying the rent
and security deposit for a new location and provided Meijer
gift cards to replace some of their lost possessions.
Case 1506
When we were in need you brought the hands of God to our
doorstep. We are truly grateful for your help when we desperately needed it.
May God bless each one of you.
By Donald H. Vormelker, Crisis Case Director
Case 1507 B. Balcerzak – D. Vormelker
A single mother with two sons was referred by a Club member. The mother fell and fractured her wrist and was unable
to work as a homecare nurse. The oldest son, age 19, works
for a lawn service and she receives workman’s compensation
but this is not enough to cover the mortgage payment and
DTE bill until she could get back to work. The Club paid one
month’s mortgage payment and the DTE bill.
Case 1508 J. Oreson – D. Vormelker
A social worker from St. John Hospital – Pediatrics and Young
Adult Unit referred a 22 year old single woman who was
suffering from respiratory distress and sleep apnea. She is
obese and lives alone in an upper flat. While she does have
other family members, they cannot assist her financially. She
had no furniture other than an old hand-me-down mattress.
The Crisis Director went with the social worker to Art Van
Clearance Center and purchased a bed, bed frame and basic
furniture which Art Van Furniture delivered at no charge. Also,
pillows and bedding was purchased at Meijer.
.
Case 1509 B. Balcerzak – D. Vormelker
The Van Elslander Cancer Center referred a divorced mother
with two children. The 15 year old son was diagnosed with
leukemia. While caring for her son, the mother was forced to
miss some work, and because of that, she was let go. She has
no family that can assist her. The Club brought her utilities
up-to-date and the Crisis Director took the family shopping at
Meijer for clothes, food and household items.
Case 1510 J. Oreson – D. Vormelker
A Club member referred a divorced mother with a son who
was being treated for a brain bleed. She has no family assistance because both her father and brother died in the last two
years. While taking care of her son she had to take time off
work and fell behind on her rent. The Club assisted by paying
two month’s rent.
Case 1507
Thank you, thank you a million thank you’s!
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the help and kindness
you gave to me and my two boys. The fall I had has prevented
me from working for 8 months now. Being a single parent,
your gift was right on time and so needed. Again, from the
bottom of my heart - Thanks.
Case 1509
Thank you Grosse Pointe Crisis Club for everything you did
for my family. My son’s cancer has taken a major toll on our
lives. Because of your generosity our lives have been made
easier. Thank you for all that you have done for us.
With deep gratitude.
From the President (continued from page 1)

2014 Kotchers Kapers Golf Outing
The 2014 Crisis Club Kotcher’s Kapers Golf Outing avoided all the severe weather in the area but
could not fend off the foursome of Tim DeMeulenare, Ryan DeMeulenaere, Tom Spanos and Jack
Redmond. They posted an exceptional score of
57, fifteen under par, to beat out every other team
at Sycamore Hills. The Carter Lumber team of Rick
Ditzek, Jennie Schade, Bob Dancer and Karen
Younga were awarded golf lessons at the Jarwor’s
Golf Center for their perseverance.
As Co-Chairman of this annual event, I want to
thank the seventy-one players, beverage and tee
sponsors as well as the donors and volunteers for
their commitment to support our Crisis Club golf
outing.
A reduction in operating costs and support by many generous players and sponsors allowed the event to raise over
$7,000 to support the Crisis Club and the needy people we serve.
Please watch for details of the 2015 Kotcher’s Kapers Golf Outing in upcoming newsletters.
Sincerely,
Ted Eikhoff and Steve Graus Co-Chairmen
