Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site
Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site
Interpretation site - History and society / Archaeology - Military Heritage
Tourist region: Gaspésie
To discover, see and do...
Come on a trip back in time and relive the odyssey of a
little French fleet bringing emergency supplies to New
France in the spring of 1760. Underwater digs have
turned up an impressive variety of objects from Le
Machault, a French frigate that sank during the naval
battle. You can get a close-up look at these remains
and some authentic sections of the ship. An animated
film recounts the highlights of this naval combat
between the English and the French, seconded by the
Acadians and Micmac. Our interpreter-guides will help
explain this important episode in Canadian history.

Bourg de Pabos
Interpretation site - History and society / Archaeology
Tourist region: Gaspésie
To discover, see and do...
In the shelter of a natural lagoon, the Bourg de Pabos
Interpretation Centre features an archaeological site
bearing traces of the presence of Native, Basque
and Breton fishermen. The centre highlights the
historical period of New France (1730-1758), with
a permanent exhibition showing the importance of
this Gaspesian settlement under the French Regime.
Artifacts unearthed during five archaeological digs
illustrate the way of life under the seigniorial system,
while an archaeological interpretation trail reveals the
remains of centuries-old buildings.

Let this upper middle-class home in the Gaspé
take you back to the late 19th century, with its
authentically restored interiors, bedspreads, drapes,
period furnishings and accessories. Our guides will tell
you the story of the original owner of the Manor, John
Le Boutillier, a major cod exporter. He had this home
built for the manager of his company, to be used as
a warehouse and office as well. Its sober elegance
recalls the style of sumptuous homes in this area.

Islands and in villages like Saint-Grégoire de Nicolet,
Saint-Gervais de Bellechasse, L’Acadie, Carleton
and Bonaventure. Come explore our fascinating
collections, artefacts and photos and learn about
Acadian history in our multimedia room.
The Museum also has a new seasonal exhibition,
Secrets d’Acadiens. Les coulisses de la rue
Grand-Pré. It showcases the intangible heritage
of Bonaventure, its values, culture, language and
words. The exhibition includes audio recordings and
