From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The longer I am a Catholic the more grateful I have
become to God for giving me my Catholic faith.
Today is “Reformation Day” in many protestant
calendars. As you know we are living in the midst
of many protestants here in Oklahoma. And many
of our separated brothers and sisters do not even
know that Catholics are Christians. Many believe
that we worship Mary and that we do not truly
know how to worship God. We have a lot of work
to do in evangelizing these protestants. But, of
course, that starts with truly knowing and loving
our own faith. That is a life-long task to be sure.
We have a rich two thousand year history and to
know well the teachings of scripture, the history of
the church, the theological roots of our doctrinal
beliefs, and the whole rich experience of prayer
over those thousands of years would take more
than a lifetime. We can help ourselves to know and
love our faith more through personal retreats, lectio
divina, spiritual books, spiritual direction, joining a
third order, going to classes at the PSI or right here
in our own parish when Bible studies are offered.
The internet also offers so much helpful information regarding our faith. I encourage every one of
us to make an even more serious commitment to
studying our Catholic faith and perhaps a good day
to make such a commitment is today on
“Reformation Day.” We can seek our own spiritual
reform by asking God for the grace to really know
and love our Holy, Catholic faith.
This week in the parish we will receive a visit from
Bishop Slattery. He will come to bless the newly
renovated convent on Saturday, October 31st. I
have invited all those who participated in the work
of repairing and renovating the convent. There
were about 40 volunteers over the course of the
year who helped to do so. Both Councils of the
Knights of Columbus and many other people contributed to this project. It is exciting to think that
soon we will have a community of sisters living
right here on our parish campus. Of course, when
October 25, 2015
the parish began, the Dominican sisters lived here
occupying the entire building that comprises the
“Sister Jamesetta Room” as well as what is presently the convent because there were nine sisters
here teaching in our school that had as many as
700 children enrolled. That’s a lot of kids to try to
teach. The Dominican sisters must have worked
very hard. The group of sisters that we are bringing
here will also work very hard because we have
about 300 children enrolled in catechism classes
and we have a really big task trying to help these
young people to know and love their faith. The sisters will be working especially with the parents.
This coming Saturday is the Vigil of All Saints
(Halloween). Because Padre Juan Pablo was so
involved in deliverance ministry he came to see
more and more dangers involved in dressing up our
kids as witches, or trolls, or devils or as monsters.
What seems like innocent fun can sometimes have
an unfortunate effect upon these youngsters and
can be one more avenue for the devil to enter into
lives that might not be well protected through living a Sacramental life and fervent prayer. There are
more and more cases of diabolic possession and
infestation as the Christian world gives way to the
powers of darkness. We
certainly don’t need to encourage our children to
wander into such realms. All Hallows Eve is the
vigil of a great Feast Day in the Church, the Feast
of All Saints. This Feast replaced the pagan rites of
Fall with a remembrance of those who have died
and are now enjoying the beatific vision. Some of
the people that we honor in “All Saints Day” are
known by name as canonized saints but many more
are not known by us but only to God. The Church
wishes to remember all of them in a special Feast
and thus the celebration of All Saints. Monday is
the Feast of All Souls which is a remembrance of
the holy souls still being purified in the fire of purgatory. These souls are remembered especially at
the Holy Mass. Priests may celebrate three Masses
on All Souls Day. Our Masses will be celebrated at
7:00 a.m. in Latin, at 8:30 a.m. in English and at
7:00 p.m. in Spanish. I hope that you will be able
to assist at one of those Masses and pray for the
faithful departed that they will soon be freed from
the sufferings they are now enduring.
The month of November is the Remembrance of
the Souls in Purgatory. It is very meritorious to
visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. One might
also make it to more daily Masses to pray for
those in our families who have died during this
past year. You can have Masses offered through
our parish office. You can also call Clear Creek
Monastery and have thirty Masses in a row. Those
are called “Gregorian Masses.” Let us pray during
November for all those who have left this world.
Next Sunday (November 1st) is also when Daylight Savings Time ends. We have to remember to
“fall back” and set our clocks an hour back. Next
week is also “Vocation Awareness Week.” I will
talk more about that in our next bulletin.
Have a good week.
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

St. Sharbel Makhlouf promoted the spirituality of
the monastic Maronite Church in his lifetime. He
was born May 8, 1828 in Bkeafra, Lebanon. At the
age of twenty-three he entered the monastery, was
ordained a priest on July 23, 1858 and spent the
next sixteen years in community life. He then
spent 23 years in a hermitage. On Christmas Eve
1897, Fr. Sharbel passed into eternal life. His body
remained incorrupt until 1965, the year of his beatification. He is known for the intensity of his
spiritual life as a hermit and the extraordinary diversity and number of his miracles. St. Therese is

TRUE BLINDNESS
Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat
be the side of the road being “a good blind beggar.” But one day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus
jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine
him turning toward the direction of the commotion
and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he shouted out to the son of David.
The people who knew him were embarrasses by his outburst. They tried to hush him up
and get him to sit back down by the roadside. Their
actions spoke volumes: “Bartimaeus, you’re not fit
for Jesus.” But it was okay for them and other
“sighted” people to follow Jesus. In today’s readings, we learn that t rue blindness is not a condition
of our eyes but of our hearts.

Del Párroco:
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en
Cristo,
gracia a conocer y amar nuestra santa fe católica.
No debemos
Sinceramente, Padre Tim
