Welcome to the Cabins at Lopstick From our Office at Stewart Young Rd: Return to Rte 3 and take a left (North). Go 1/3 mile and take a Right onto Metallak Road. After the white house, take a Right onto Loon Cove Lane. To Access the Snowmobile Trails: Travel back towards Rte 3 from your cabin. Pick up the connector trail shortly before Rte 3. It will be on the left across from the white house on Metallak Rd. Cross Rte 3 and follow the trail. Bear right at the two junctions and this will bring you to to Trail 139 near Ramblewood. Or access the lake and pick up Trail 139 across the cove. Directions from the Cabins at Lopstick; take a left onto US Rte 3 and travel north approximately 3 miles. You will go up a steep part of Rte 3, known as Corkscrew Hill. As you reach the top, this is the start of "Moose Alley". Moose Alley continues on Rte 3 until the Second Connecticut Lake Dam. More moose viewing opportunities exist between Second Connecticut Lake and the border but certainly the most actively visited moose hang-outs are between Corkscrew Hill and Second Lake Dam. Phone Location: There is a courtesy phone located at the Office with Long Distance.There is a phone located inside and outside. The outside phone is available 24 hours a day. WI-FI: We have Wi-Fi available at the front office and at most of the Magalloway property. Fly Shop: Our fly shop is open from mid-April until mid-October. We have a large variety of flies, rods, reels, tippet, waders and more. We also update our fishing board daily with river flows, hot spots and flies that are working. Gift Shop: Our gift shop is open year round, hours vary by season. Firewood: We sell firewood for the outdoor fire rings late April through November in the Gift Shop. Swimming: a good place to swim is at 1st Connecticut Lake. The public access is about .5 miles South on Rte 3. There are picnic tables, grills, lawn, and sandy places. A great way to spend the day. Trout Pond: We have a stocked trout pond that is available to guests. We ask that you use barbless hooks or crush your barbs and release the fish immediately. A great way to practice! We also have fish food available at the office if you would like to feed the fish. Stop by and we would be happy to give you some food. Guide Service: We offer Fly Fishing Guide Service from May until October 15. The guides can be booked at the office and are available for either a half day or a full day. We also offer Upland Bird Hunting Guide Service during the month of October. Our guides provide dogs and is available for either a full day or a morning only. Rates are available at the Office. Casting Lessons: We can book a fly casting lesson for you, you would start out on the lawn and move to the trout pond. Lessons usually last from 1-2 hours. Sign up is at the Office. Boat Rentals: We rent Motor Boats, Canoes, Kayaks, and Row Boats from ice out in May until mid-October. Stop by the office to reserve one during your stay. Boat Launches: First Connecticut Lake has 3 public boat launches; one is across the street from The Cabins at Lopstick, one is about .5 miles South on Rte 3 at the dam, and the other is at the end of Camp Otter Road. Lake Francis has 2 public boat launches, one is at the end of River Road and the other is about 7 miles South off of Rte 3. Back Lake has 2 public boat launches, one is located on Spooner Road and the other is located at the town beach on Beach Road. Second Connecticut Lake has one boat launch located off of route 3 about 7 miles North of the lodge. Third Connecticut Lake has a boat launch located off of route 3 about 12 miles North of the Lodge. Hiking Info: A few spots to go hiking while in the North Country. Fourth Connecticut Lake - To get there drive North on Route 3 to the US Customs, park in the parking lot across the street, and take the trail behind the border house. The trail is steep in places and follows the international boundary at times. Hike time? 1 hour into the lake. Magalloway Mountain Fire Tower - Drive North to Magalloway road (about 2.5 miles) follow Magalloway road for 5 miles, turn at the tower sign and continue for another 3 miles. The trailhead is at the end of the road to lead to the tower. There are two trails that lead to the tower. Magalloway Mountain is one of the highest peaks with an elevation of 3,360'. Snowmobile Rentals: We rent single and double Ski Doo snowmobiles starting at the end of December through March. A helmet and trail map comes with your rental. We also rent snowmobile gear in case you need it. You can reserve the snowmobiles for full or half days at the Office.
