Barry Vegh
For twenty years, Bavco Construction
Limited has been providing clients
with exceptional construction value
and expertise. Bavco specializes in
commercial and residential projects
throughout Southern Ontario, handling
both renovations and complete design/
build projects.
Barry and Curt Vegh are the two
brothers behind Bavco’s success. They
learned at their father’s side, working
large-scale construction projects during
the construction boom of the 1970s.
There, they gained an understanding of
the trade, from the foundations to the
finishing touches.
Today, clients also benefit from the
company’s custom millwork and
woodshop. Bavco designs everything
from stunning new kitchen cabinets and
custom office / laboratory furnishings to

DESIGN/BUILD
Design/Build is the comprehensive management of every aspect of a project from conception to completion.
Based on your requirements, Bavco Construction prepares construction plans and estimates. Together these
documents provide you with realistic costs and time frames for the design, construction and occupancy stages.
The process ensures that financing and other considerations may be arranged prior to the project proceeding.
Upon completion of working drawings, competitive bids are solicited from subcontractors and suppliers. After
analysis, a firm price is presented to you for evaluation and approval
commence with on-site construction to completion.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project design, approvals and construction can be “fast tracked” by
the Project and Construction Management methods decreasing the
overall time for the owner to occupy its facilities, ultimately saving
costs. Bavco Construction will provide a ”not to exceed budget”
early in the design stage and upon completion of the design and
tender stages, will enter into a construction management contract
for the entire project.
A dedication to quality, a commitment to superior client services and
a track record of competitiveness are the cornerstones of Bavco’s

Bavco’s wood shop is where all
the magic takes place. Once plans
are drawn up for a project, Bavco’s
craftsmen take it from there. The
shop’s tools are powered by air; a pneumatic pump supplies the push for sanders,
sprayers and drills. Amidst the hiss of tools and the flying sawdust, skilled craftsmen work

woods to ensure that you get the style
and finish you’re after. These are our most
popular choices:

Red maple:
Red maple features a tight grain and a dark colour. A relatively soft wood, it’s used
mostly for furniture.
White maple:
Typically with a straight grain, white maple sometimes shows a wavy figure and a bird’s
eye pattern. White maple is most used for flooring, furniture, cabinets and musical
instruments.
Red oak:
Red oak features a rough grain, and is used mostly in furniture, veneers and flooring.
White oak:
White oak features a slight grain that is often straight, and is a favourite choice for fine
furniture, boat building or custom cabinetry.

types of finishes
When the wood is formed, the final step is the finish. There are
three types of finish for your wood product:
Stain:
For a nice effect, or to match existing furniture, stain can be
applied to a finished wood piece. Many stains enhance the beauty
of the natural wood grain; others can change the appearance or
colour of the wood altogether!
Lacquer:
Sprayed in multiple coats and hand sanded, lacquer provides a
durable finish with great depth as well as a flat to high gloss sheen.
Lacquer is used on most of our cabinetry.
Varnish:
Urethane and polyurethane protects wood upon application,
helping prevent possible damage from water and scuffing. It’s
most often used on flooring, boats and furniture.

the insides, make additions and finish the interior. The results, as our

The opening of the completely renovated Blackadar Retirement Residence
on August 1, 2000, marks another step forward in the many years of history
at 99-101 Creighton Road in Dundas, Ontario. The new ultra modern facility is
equipped with the latest in retirement living convenience, while maintaining the
historical attributes of the original design. Led by Bavco Construction Limited,
the old structure has been turned into a regional landmark in Dundas.

Based on the cement and types of nails found in the building, it appears the
residence was built during the late 1800s. Once home to the Greening Wire
Company, the residence passed to the Maw, Howard and Ross families before
being bought by the Blackadar family in 1963.
The nursing home business began with the
construction of a small addition on the north side
of the facility, which operated until 1995. Today’s
completed retirement/nursing home is the result
of planning that began in the autumn of 1999.
The library is spacious yet cozy,
offering an inviting location for
reading.

Van Noort Bulbs
Van Noorts Bulbs contracted Bavco
Construction to build a new facility
for its plant bulb growing, packaging
and distribution centre. The job called
for demolishing the original building,
and erecting a new building attached
to a second existing one. Special
requirements for this client included
the construction of warm rooms
and cold rooms, for the storage and
comfort of their plants.
To match the existing
building, Van Noort’s new
building features metal
siding and numerous
windows to let in the light.
The client required
plenty of open space
for its offices.
The completed job shows both old and
new buildings together.
Anytime Convenience
For this job, Bavco was given a unique
opportunity: to build a convenience/grocery
store from the ground up. But this store
called for more than a simple “canned
design”. From the custom steel roofing, to
the stucco exterior, picture glass windows
and designer stonework, this commercial
property delivers style as well as function.

stonework and stucco make this
a unique commercial landmark
on Hamilton mountain.

Rotsaert Dental Labs
Bavco was called upon to completely gut
the interior of an existing dental lab. The
work entailed a complete reworking of
the electrical, plumbing, gas lines, heating
and air conditioning systems. After the
infra-structure was complete, Bavco set to
work on a massive millworking operation:
lab benches, cabinets and shelves to fill a
sizeable laboratory.
Bavco outfitted an entire
dental lab complete with all
the necessary hardware.
Exclusively Women’s
Bavco’s workers are the only men to ever
see the insides of this building: a fitness
club for women. Starting with an empty
space, they converted 10,000 square feet
into a state-of-the-art facility for aerobics
and fitness. They installed completely
new plumbing, electrical, heating and air
conditioning systems, as well as new floors,
ceilings and all woodwork and cabinetry.

LaLuna Restaurant
La Luna Restaurants had a problem: they
wanted to open up two restaurants in
Hamilton one after the other, on time and on
budget. Bavco Construction fit the bill, first
converting the Concession Street Kentucky
Fried Chicken into a ritzy eatery, then turning
a downtown school building into a stylish
restaurant/nightclub.

a major transformation to a stylish restaurant.

were designed for cozy dining…
…in a Mediterranean setting!
The exterior of the downtown
location shares the same look as
the mountain location, establishing
a visual identity for the new
restaurant chain.

Gown & Gavel Pub
For the Gown & Gavel, Hamilton’s
premier pub in classy Hess Village,
Bavco Construction is the immediate
go-to man for any job. Over the years,
Bavco has built a bar both inside
and outside on the patio, designed
and installed custom steel railings
and gates, built decking, re-roofed
the building, and made dozens of
other alterations to suit this growing
destination.
The expansive patio area also
includes an upper deck with
tables and railings.

Bavco is proud of its relationship with
this major footwear chain. Over the
years, they have built stores in Power
Centres across Ontario, including Stoney
Creek, Woodbridge, Niagara Falls and
Windsor, among others.
