BREAKSPEAR CREMATORIUM
RUISLIP, MIDDLESEX
CLIENT: LONDON BOROUGH OF HILLINGDON
ARCHITECT: ART-TECH DESIGN SERVICES
QUANTITY SURVEYOR: STRATTON, CASTELL & PARTNERS
VALUE: £2,845,000
CONTRACT PERIOD: 53 WEEKS
Completed by the General Contracts Division, this multi-phase project at
Breakspear Crematorium required considerable sensitivity and technical
expertise as the facility remained in operation throughout the duration of
the works.
Borras were appointed to complete a radical upgrading and expansion
of the site. The works demanded the highest levels of management and
engineering expertise by the Borras team in order to successfully integrate
the structural requirements with architectural vision.
The initial phases entailed the construction of a new chapel, new
crematory and refurbishment of the West Chapel Flower Court including
the erection of new glazed canopies and groundwork’s to the main car
park.
The new chapel has a copper roof with a geometric design complimenting
the existing roof on the 1950s main building. Given the complexity of the
design, it took 10 weeks to complete the construction of the roof although
this did not impact on he project completion schedule.
“
The professional way they oversaw
this project from start to finish,
in a very difficult operational
environment, was outstanding to
say the least.
