Baystate Medical
Receives Awards
The winter holidays are upon
us and can be a stressful time for
anybody, but even more so for
those providing care for frail,
memory-impaired, or ill loved
ones at home.
Two of the area’s premier
providers of comprehensive care –
Baystate
Visiting
Nurse
Association & Hospice and
Northampton Rehabilitation &
Nursing Center – are partnering
this holiday season to provide a
free lunch and seminar aimed at
giving home caregivers gifts they
really need: a moment to reflect
and an opportunity for nurturing
themselves.
Come in from the cold and
gather ’round as Louisa Sapienza,
spiritual care provider (chaplain)
for Baystate VNA & Hospice, leads
a discussion about handling holiday stress, meeting the needs that
are particular to home care givers,
and offering tips for self care and
moments of relaxation and peace.
The event will be held at
Northampton Rehabilitation &
Nursing Center, 737 Bridge Road,
Northampton,
on
Monday
December 11, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
For this special event, elder
respite day care will be provided.
To be eligible for this, care givers
must call and pre-register; a nurse
will all you back to determine if
care needs can be safely and
appropriately met so that you can
enjoy the luncheon.

music, sports and movies – especially comedies. Teddy says “Jim is
really sporty and lots of fun. He
has taught me how to throw a
great spiral and how to increase
my speed... He also taught me
some good pointers at baseball
like keeping my eyes on the ball
when we have batting and fielding
drills.” Teddy really enjoys his

Wayne LeBrun Named
McDonald’s East Div,
2006 Coach of The Year
A local McDonald’s owner
recently took the top honor
among the entire East Division of
the country’s leading food service
provider. Wayne LeBrun, owner
of seven McDonald’s restaurants
throughout
Western
Massachusetts, was named East
Division 2006 Coach of the Year
by McDonald’s Corporation for
his leadership, particularly with
regards to the region’s breakfast
business.
LeBrun chairs the Boston
Region’s Breakfast Council and
was responsible for the development of an ambitious five-year
business plan created to combat
competitive pressures in the
northeast. To date, the plan has
included the successful partnership with Green Mountain Coffee
Roasters and Newman’s Own
Organics which has resulted in a
31% lift in coffee units and an
11% lift in overall breakfast sales
for the region.
“Breakfast is Wayne’s real passion,” said Karen King, president
of McDonald’s East Division.
“His vision and ability to motivate
operators and staff in support of
our northeast breakfast initiative
has been truly impressive.”
In addition to being instrumental in the introduction of
Newman’s Own Organics coffee,
LeBrun championed the introduction of iced coffee in May and
is currently participating in a
baked goods operations test in his
restaurants. He also is the cochair of the East Division
Breakfast Leadership Council.
“It’s a real honor to be recognized in this way by McDonald’s
Corporation,” said LeBrun. “My
passion for breakfast is driven by
two key principles – listen to our
customers and offer quality products that they want and seek at
breakfast.”
In addition to his leadership
role at breakfast, LeBrun has
served four years as president of
the Connecticut and Western
Massachusetts
McDonald’s
Owner/Operator
Association,
chaired his Region’s Marketing
Leadership Council, and has participated on a national co-op president’s panel.
LeBrun has been part of the
McDonald’s family for 37 years
and has worked for the
Corporation and at all levels within the restaurant. He has been a
McDonald’s owner for 15 years.
Today he owns restaurants in
Easthampton, Greenfield, Hadley,
Holyoke, Northampton and
Westfield, Massachusetts.
McDonald’s USA, LLC is the
leading foodservice provider in
the United States serving a variety
of wholesome foods made from
quality ingredients to millions of
customers every day.
Gift Idea for
Wildlife Aficionados
Defenders of Wildlife’s Holiday
Wildlife Adoption Center is offering the perfect gift for those who
care about wildlife conservation.
Here’s a chance to save threatened
creatures by symbolically “adopting” a wolf, dolphin, penguin, sea
turtle, elephant, or any of some
fourteen different animals. This is
the perfect gift idea for those who
share a passion and dedication to
our natural resources and want to
see it preserved and protected for
future generations.
Each tax-deductible “adoption” costs $25. You can also adopt
a wolf family ($100), polar bear
mother and cub ($75) or even an
entire Wildlife Sanctuary ($250).
The money supports Defenders of
Wildlife’s work to protect these
magnificent creatures and the
places they call home. For
instance, Dolphins have suffered
severe losses due to tuna fishing
practices. Wolves are threatened
by illegal killing and efforts to
remove them from the endangered species list.
Reader’s Digest named Defenders
of Wildlife as America’s Best Wildlife
Charity. Defenders of Wildlife has
more than 800,000 members and
supporters. For more information,
