Urban Bird Corridor

Pollution filling the air, crowded buildings, and noisy dirty streets are
images commonly associated with cities. As it was George Kessler’s
personal mission to destroy this image, so it is ours as well. The pacels of
land at Delaware and Fall Creek are ideal for a site devoted to this kind of
urban respit. The plants, arrangement, and views are all designed to
promote contemplation and other passive activities most noteably
birdwatching. Special attentional was taken to provide food and habitat
for these feathered friends that will help numerous avian life to thrive
year long and provide enjoyment to the patrons of this park. The site has
been cleaned up to take advantage of the two greatest amenities. These
include the Creek, and shade/sunlight interplayed through natural
vegetation. Fall Creek is not a place to come one, but a place where
people will return and bring their children and grandchildren.

A View From Delaware
The western most portion of the Fall Creek trail contains a
steep north facing slope. This slope has been covered in
viburnums, juniperous and various other flowing shrubs
coordinated to provide brilliant folliage and flowering year
round. A dwarf forsythia has also been used here to help stop
errosion on this steep bank. As you look accross Fall Creek you
will see a colorful textural pallet that adorns the landscape
View of Four Corners from Fall Creek Parkway
Near the Delaware Street bridge on the western half of the
site, a weeping European birch has been planted. The
weeping form is iconic of the Kessler era and carries with it
a sense of beauty and steadfastness to the landscape. The
hillside remains relatively barren as hydrangeas and
elderberries spot the turf with with color. The black
chokeberries have also been transplanted down near the
boardwalk as a pedestrian deterant and because of the
ability for Aronia to act as a site remediation plant.
