The registered participants were given the opportunity to win a seven-day free holiday in Istria in the period from 16 May until 31 July 2015. It was built on the middle of the islet in shape of a round stone tower 35 meters high and is the tallest in Istria. It is automated and included in system of distance surveillance. There is a permanent lighthouse crew. The stone building is a ground- floor building in which there are two apartments. The backyard of the lighthouse continues to the bridge on which there is a crane for lifting boats. The islet is so small that you’ll need a bit more than a minute to take a tour around it, but the walk could take a long time if You take a look at the sunsets which are among the best in the Adriatic. Its longitudinal width is 80 meters. At Porer, the swimming is recommended at the places where the boat dock is situated. The lighthouse keeper will gladly tell you where the swimming is recommended at certain time of the day because the sea currents around the islands are very strong all day, so that even for a good swimmers,it is not recommend swimming away from the coast for more than fifty meters. The waves are very strong, especially in winter. The undersea near the island Porer is attractive for divers and its characterized by shallow waters and underwater cliffs. The sea area around Porer is a rich fishing area where you can catch almost 90% of fish which live in the Adriatic Sea. The legends of Porer are hidden in the sand layers in its waters, which hide many ancient remains. In the shallow waters surrounding Kršin, Fenoliga and Large Balkun there are the ship remains that were sunk in a storm which happened around Porer. The highlight of previously mentioned islet Fenoliga is the dinosaur footprints. Leuchtturm des Felsen Porer Der Leuchtturm Porer, auf dem gleichnamigen Felsinselchen, wurde im Jahre 1833 erbaut und befindet sich eineinhalb Seemeilen südwestlich von der südlichsten Spitze Istriens - dem sogenannten Kap Kamenjak. Er wurde inmitten der kleinen Insel in Form eines runden Steinturms mit einer Höhe von 35 m erbaut und ist der höchste Leuchtturm in Istrien. Er ist komplet automatisiert und ferngesteuert. Auf dem Leuchtturm befindet sich ständig ein Leuchtturm Wächter. Das Steingebäude ist ein Paterregebäude, in dem es zwei Wohnungen gibt. Im Anschluss an den Garten des Leuchtturms befindet sich ein Bootskran. Die Insel ist so klein, dass Sie nur etwas über eine Minute benötigen, um die gesamte Küste ab zu spazieren, doch könnte der Spaziergang auch sehr viel länger dauern, wenn Sie während des Sonnenuntergangs eine Runde drehen, denn dieser Sonnenuntergang zählt zu den schönsten an der Adria. Die Insel ist nur 80m lang. Auf dem Porer empfiehlt es sich, dort zu baden, wo die Schiffe anlegen. Der Leuchtturmwächter wird sie auf die Stellen hinweisen, an denen man baden kann und zu welcher Tageszeit Sie baden können, da die Strömungen um die Insel herum sehr stark sind. Aus diesem Grund empfiehlt man auch guten Schwimmern, sich nicht mehr als fünfzig m vom Strand der Insel zu entfernen. Der Wind ist vor allem im Winter sehr stark. Die Unterwasserwelt um die Insel Porer herum ist durch seichtes Wasser und die Inselchen herum sehr attraktiv für das Tauchen. Die Umgebung der Insel Porer weist eine Vielfalt an Fischarten auf und man kann in dieser Region bis zu 90% der Fischarten fangen, die in der Adria leben. Eine Legende besagt, dass sich in den sandigen Ablagerungen eine Menge römischer Überreste verbergen. Um die umliegenden Inselchen Krsin, Fenoliga und Veliki Balkun findet man zahlreiche Wracks der Schiffe, die wegen starker Stürme untergegangen sind. Auf dem Inselchen Fenoliga wurden Fußspuren eines Dinosauriers entdeckt. Sailing Segeln Start sailing along the Istrian coast with the sun in your face and the wind in your sails. Istra Diving: Discovery Discovery dive Probetauchen As a descent into Istrian sea depths require knowledge and skills, your safe start should begin with a discovery dive. The discovery dive starts with a theoretical lecture on the basics of breathing and underwater stay, getting to know diving equipment and the diving method. This is followed by that exciting part, the diving itself, always in the company of an instructor or a dive guide. As a course student, the entire diving equipment will be put at your disposal. After the dive, you will be taught how to disassemble, clean and prepare the equipment for the next dive. The discovery dive course is 2 (two) hours long. Apart from the analysis of the conducted dive, instructors will inform you of the beginner’s course terms and conditions. All those older than 10, eager for new experience and to learn about magnificent Istrian undersea world can apply for a discovery dive. Das Probetauchen (discovery) beginnt mit einem theoretischen Vortrag, bei dem Sie die grundlegenden Atemtechniken und Tauchtheorie lernen, sowie die Taucherausstattung und die Vorgehensweise beim Tauchen kennenlernen. Als Kursteilnehmer bekommen Sie die komplette Taucherausstattung geliehen, und nach dem Tauchen lernen Sie, wie man sie abnimmt, saubermacht und für das nächste Tauchen wieder vorbereitet. Der Probetauchkurs dauert 2 Stunden, und nach einer Analyse werden die Kursleiter Sie mit den Grundlagen für einen Anfänger-Tauchkurs bekannt machen. Begin the ride in Punta and continue to the so called Venetian quarry, a place from which for centuries blocks of Istrian quality stone had been transported to Venice, Vienna or Budapest and used for construction of monumental palaces. Continuing along the trail you will arrive to the Hutterott Mini Museum founded in honour of the family of the baron Hutterot who played an important role in the history of tourism in Rovinj at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The following stop is Zlatni rt-Punta corrente, a protected forest-park of singular beauty and of high aesthetic and botanic value, one of the most important parks on our coast. If you would like to visit magnificent bays with nice pebbles where you can refresh yourself, continue towards the next stop; the bays of Cuvi and Polari. The tourist village Villas Rubin is situated between them. Continuing along the trail you will arrive to the bay of Veštar, in the times of the Ro- man Empire known as Vistrum, famous for being the birthplace of an important prelate. If you love archaeology and if you like to find traces of the Roman Empire in the area, continue to the bay and you will find there ruins of villa rustica and of a Roman cistern. There is also a surprise, the ornithological reserve Palud with rich variety of ornithofauna, a unique place where you can hear the chirping of even 215 different bird species! In the nearby area you will find the church of St Damian from the 11th century where, as the legend tells, Pope Alexander III celebrated a mess on his way to Venice. If you think that at this point there are no more surprises on the Vistrum trail, you are wrong. On the way along the coastline there is another ancient quarry and two churches, St Nicholas from the 12th century and Madonna di Campo from the 15th century. The second one is known as a place of pilgrimage where in times of drought people used to pray for the rain. Der Weg führt weiter zur Bucht Veštar mit Gräberfunden aus der Antike (Vistrum). Liebhaber der Archäologie und Entdeckungsfreudige setzen Ihren Weg fort zu einer Bucht mit den Überresten römischer Landhäuser, Villae Rusticae genannt, und einer römischen Zisterne. Danach erwartet Sie eine besondere Überraschung: das Vogelschutzgebiet Palud, belebt durch hunderte Vogelstimmen und den Gesang von 215 verschiedenen Vogelarten! In der Nähe finden Sie die Kirche des Hl. Damijan aus dem 11.Jh., in der Papst Alexander der Dritte auf seinem Weg nach Venedig eine Messe gehalten haben soll. Wenn Sie jetzt gedacht haben, alle Überraschungen und Sehenswürdigkeiten der Vistrum-Route seien bereits erschöpft, täuschen Sie sich. Auf dem Weg entlang der Küste erwarten Sie noch ein Steinbruch aus der Antike, die Kirche des Hl. Nikolaus aus dem 12. Jh. und Madonna di Campo aus dem 15. Jh., wobei letztere ein Wallfahrtsort ist, an dem früher in trockenen Jahren um Regen gebetet wurde. Juraj The Island of Sveti Juraj (St. George) is the most impressive natural feature of Vrsar and its surrounding area. It is an island right next to the coast, suitably maintained and well-cared for, which makes it an ideal day-trip destination. With its unspoilt landscape, stone church of the early medieval period, old quarry, beaches, holm oakdominated vegetation, and a few pine trees, the island provides a soothing and completely natural landscape for leisure and relaxation. The Island of St. George has several walking trails across the whole territory, which makes all parts of the island accessible to its visitors. You can stay on the island during the day time, and you can find conveniently located berths on its eastern side, below the church of St. George. Numerous visitors will be keen on swimming the short distance between the land and 14 outdoor the island, which will give them a unique, and a little bit different persperctive of the old town of Vrsar, port and marina. Die Insel stellt ein perfektes Ambiente zur Erholung und Freizeit dar, da es unberührte Natur hat, eine frühchristliche kleine Steinkirche, alten Steinbruch, Strände und Vegetation mit dominanter Steineiche sowie einigen Föhren und ist in die Natur perfekt eingefügt. Auf der Insel Sveti Juraj gibt es einige Wanderwege, die sich auf der Insel wie ein Netz erstrecken und so ermöglichen, dass die Insel vollkommen besichtigt werden kann. Auf der Insel kann man sich tagsüber aufhalten und auf der östlichen Seite der Insel, unterhalb der Kirche des Hl. Juraj, befindet sich eine günstige Anlegestelle für Boote. The trail starts in Brtonigla-Verteneglio, and after a 20-minute walk you will reach a hill called Žmergo, surrounded by fields. The hilltop has a view over vineyards and olive groves all the way to the sea. In 1936, a small structure was built on the hill. Village people call it the ‘old water system’, and it is still used as water supply. From here, the trail will take you to the Škarline Nature Park, a hidden gem of the region, with small lakes and a stream that has carved a true canyon on its course to the Mirna River. After leaving the park, the trail becomes a dirt road taking you back to Brtonigla. Walking the trail takes up to two hours, depending on your pace. This undemanding trail keeps to macadam tracks and field routes through vineyards; only a short section of the trail is paved. Experience a true medieval battle and hop on a journey back in 1599, when on St. Sebastian’s Night 19th/20th January the town of Labin defeated the mighty Uskoks. On one of their crusades 600 Uskoks reached the eastern coast of Istria. At that time Labin was a small town on top of a hill, surrounded with 6 m high town walls. When the Uskoks came, there were only thirty soldiers and some three hundred men ready to fight, who won the battle using trickery. After they slaughtered an ox, they shed his blood near the town gate, and put iron in several barrels which they started rolling down steep streets creating deafening noise. With the coming of Roman rule to Istria, the territory of Buje became the landed property of the Trieste colony and a part of the Venetia et Histria region. The prehistoric hill-fort was abandoned at that time but resettled in late Antiquity by refugees fleeing barbarian invasions. Buje gradually acquired the features of a fortified medieval town. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the reign of the Ostrogoths, the town peacefully became part of the Byzantine Empire. Today these instruments, together with the musical tradition of Istria, are kept alive by the devotion of the people who make and play them. Making folk musical instruments is a time-consuming process, much of which is spent drying the raw materials to be used for parts of the instruments. The wood used must be dense for an instrument to produce a sonorous, muffled or resonant sound. It requires time to make an instrument; the process cannot be hurried and can last for up to five years. The end result, however, is worth waiting for. Diese Instrumente verkörperten mit oder ohne Gesang einst eine Lebensart, man könnte auch sagen die natürliche Affinität zu musizieren und zu singen. Sie boten eine willkommene Ruhepause von der mühevollen Arbeit und ließen Sorgen und Armut für kurze Zeit in Vergessenheit geraten. Außerdem galt die Musik der istrischen Volksinstrumente an Feiertagen als Ausdruck von Freude und Tradtion während dieser besonderen Tage. Es ist die Liebe der Instrumentenbauer und Instrumentenspieler, die diese Instrumente am Leben erhalten und somit auch die gesamte musikalische Tradition Istriens. Obwohl ihre Fertigung viel Zeit braucht und besonders die Trocknung der Rohstoffe von Holz und Schilf einiger Teile des Gerätes die meiste Zeit in Anspruch nimmt, sind die Ergebnisse das Warten wert. Wichtigstes Bestandteil ist das Holz, das sehr dicht sein muss, um den richtigen Klang, die typische Dumpfheit und akustische Klarheit des Tones zu erzeugen. Growing in special conditions typical for Istria, Istrian Malvasia developed specific characteristics for which it was declared an indigenous Istrian variety. Malvasia is a variety of wine with a great fruity floral aroma reminiscent of the scent of the acacia flower. The prevailing fruity aromas are apple, plum and apricot, while in mature wines you can taste the light bitter flavour of almonds. Up to date 30 different types of Malvasia have been described. Istrian Malvasia will thrill all wine lovers with its harmonious full, rounded flavour and its golden-yellow colour. Grown in Istrian vineyards since the distant past, Teran is said to be passionate and exceptional, with a vigorous, boisterous scent of raspberries and forest berries, and a subtle yet pronounced and distinct aroma. Its characteristic ruby red colour can range all the way to purple. And while you admire its colours, the wine’s full and robust but, at the same time, pleasant consistent taste will thrill your palate. Because Teran is rich in plantderived polyphenol compounds that are strong antioxidants, it is considered to be a medicinal wine.
