1 – Introduction
1.1 – The beginning of videogames
When we speak of videogames, its common to associate this term to a simple entertainment provided by
a console of games or by a computer where we spend some minutes daily (or some hours) using it to
occupy our free time. This is without a doubt the way we faced videogames.
Since they appeared, videogames have always motivated competition amongst the young. This
competition has been evolving in several ways: everything began when the first machines of videogames
appeared in coffees all around the world and where the groups of friends joined to compete among
themselves and determine who the champion of the group was.
1.2 – The first competitions
As years went by competition evolved more and more and with the implementation of Internet and the
possibility of games being carried out through the "net", the neighbourhood competition became a
worldwide level competition. In this way videogames competitions transformed itself in a true sport
existing thousands of amateur teams, some semi-professionals and professional. During this trial of
evolution of the competitions appeared a new slope in the world of videogames: the "Electronic Sports".
1.3 – The Electronic Sports
The Electronic Sports are, without a doubt, and as the name indicates, the sporting component of
videogames. In this expanding "world", the participants take the competitions seriously and dedicate to
training in order to progress and reach the objectives that they are proposed.
Nowadays the Electronic Sports industry already moves enormous amounts of money, fruit of an
expansion and evolution in the last 5 years. Through this phenomenon it‟s already possible to observe the
creation of professional organizations, as well as companies (teams) properly registered in their countries,
where organizations count on players that earn a monthly salary to dedicate exclusively to the practice of
Electronic Sports.
1.4 – The videogames industry
This "industry" is in constant evolution and does not stop growing. Every year we watch the creation of
new tournaments with big monetary prizes and also the evolution of the already big existing tournaments
that increase their monetary prize year after year.
This constant evolution made big multinational companies find a new way of doing publicity to their
products. Companies such as AMD, Intel, ATI, NVIDIA, Logitech, Steelseries, LG, Samsung, Nike,
Kappa, Hummel, Coca-Cola amongst others, already discovered the spring of business that is still
unexplored in the "world" of Electronic Sports, and every day search for new teams/organizations to
support, in order to show their brand to the greatest number people as possible.
It is fair to say that Electronic Sports became a global industry in expansion, where some companies have
already arise, all around the world, dedicated exclusively to this area, as for example: Steelseries,
Icemat, QPAD, Everglide, Func Industries, Corepad, Compad, Ulti-Mat, Indiweb, Gotfrag, Sogamed,
amongst others.

1.5 – The big competitions
Every year competitions are organized to a world level sponsored by big multinational companies such as
the aforementioned in point 1.4. Of all the big competitions we point out 3 that were already carried out
several times in the last years: ESWC, WCG and CPL.
1.5.1 – Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC)

This competition run every year since 2003, gathers in France teams originating from all around
the world in a memorable and unique event.
To obtain the ticket to France, the teams must participate and win their national qualifiers ran by
local entities, where they have to come face to face against the best teams of their countries. In
the last 4 editions, ESWC have already distributed more than $575.000 to players and teams
from around the world. However, just in the last edition (2006) were distributed more than
$290.000.
1.5.2 – World Cyber Games (WCG)

This competition is run every year since 2001, in Seoul, South Korea. However this year the
organization decided to leave their "cradle" and moved away to Italy. Just as with ESWC, for a
team to arrive to the final phase of the competition, they need go through the local qualifiers,
regional and national. Defeating everybody in these qualifiers grants the team the ticket for the
final phase of the WCG. Since 2001, WCG has already distributed more than $1.750.000.
1.5.3 – Cyber Athlete Professional League

The CPL, opposing the other two competitions that are carried out "only" one time a year, carries
out several events a year: CPL Summer Tournaments, CPL Winter Tournaments and CPL
World Tour.
1.5.3.1 – CPL Summer/Winter Tournaments
These events, which we can call "sister events", are run only 1 time a year and as the
name indicates: one is carried out in winter and the other in the summer.
In each one these tournaments, The CPL delivers more than $100.000 to the winners.
1.5.3.2 – CPL World Tour
This event occurs every month (from January to October), with the particularity of being
a different country in each edition. These events are called "World Tour Stops" and
deliver $50.000 each "stop".
In the end of the year (in the month of November) CPL runs an event that unites all of
the winners of the "World Tour Stops" for the achievement of a tournament where are
distributed $1.000.000.
With simple mathematical calculations we obtain the "modest" amount of $1.700.000
delivered annually by the events of The CPL, that is carried out since 2001.
We remember that in the year 2000, all the teams played by the fun of the games.
Rarely there were monetary prizes in the tournaments and in those that had, they were
very small.

2 – lan-sports exotic eSports Club.
What are they and what do they do?
Lan-sports exotic island are, nothing more, nothing less, than the bigger and more respected
Portuguese organization of Electronic Sports.
House of several disciplines as Counter-Strike 1.6, Pro Evolution Soccer, Track mania Nations, Call of
Duty, Counter-Strike Source, Counter-Strike Female, Warcraft 3 and Quake 4, with thousands of fans at
an international and national level.
We are giving our first steps abroad scouting for top international teams and organizations that can boost
exotic at a worldwide level.
Also we are now opening ourselves to the non eSports phenomenon, in this way we are betting on a
great Portuguese Paintball organisation and a Mini-Z (remote control cars) team.
2.1 – History
Founded in March 18th 2003, with the fusion of reDawn and HellSquad, the exotic island became ever
since, the biggest organization of Portuguese Electronic Sports, and is one of the biggest and more
recognized of Europe and the World.
By the time of its foundation, the exotic island entered for the world and national history of the Electronic
Sports, by becoming the first Portuguese professional organization in this branch, and some of the first in
the world (there are only 10 in the world).
The creation of exotic was reported in all sites of national and international relevance, running (as is a
habit with exotic news), the "four corners" of the world.
Ever since, the exotic reinforced their position of bigger Portuguese organization with the creation of the
its own website (www.exotic-island.com) where are published daily news and articles about the world of
the Electronic Sports, and where monthly are carried out contests for the users of the website, with prizes
given by our current sponsors.
On May‟s 2007, exotic island and lan-sports.com decided to join the two biggest organizations in the
country in order to form the most respected, powerful and the biggest eSports club in Portugal, and also
all over the World.
The result of this fusion/join is the new called lan-sports exotic island esports club, also know as lsexotic.

2.2 – ls-exotic‟s statistics
In both competitions, the ls-exotic matches had a medium of 15.000 spectators. The average increased
in games of bigger importance surpassing the 25.000 spectators mark.
As it was already referred, nowadays ls-exotic are one of the biggest and most promising organizations
of Electronic Sports of the world and that is in constant evolution.
We do not limit ourselves to having big teams and big conquests we also carry out our own events
whenever we find there is the need to promote our teams and sponsors.

At a sporting level the LS-Exotic Esports Club desires to achieve a Top15 at a World level and mainly
maintain the team and institution in the leadership of the national Electronic Sports.

3. The Island on the Internet (www.ls-exotic.com)
The official lan-sports exotic‟s website is one of the main means of communication between the
organization and its fans/supporters.
We have a team of "journalists" that every day search the internet for the most recent events in the world
of the Electronic Sports and report them in our site. Like this, the visitors of exotic-island.com have
access to the most recent news.
Besides the daily news, the users of our site have free access to our team‟s games replays, as well as to
the last updates of the games of more relevance in the Electronic Sports and coverage of events "in loco".
At exotic-island.com, the users have a zone of forum that they can use for debating with the remainder of
the community everything about the recent events, give suggestions, or simply exchange some ideas
about a certain matter.
In exotic-island.com each registered user has a small personal page where they are able to put some
information, pictures and still have a personal "visitor‟s book". New functionalities are being studied and
implemented so that the users of exotic-island.com have more interactivity among themselves, increasing
as well the usage of the site.
For all this exotic-island.com is becoming an official meeting point for the fans of the Exotic Esports Club
and of all the community of Portuguese Electronic Sports, as well as international.
3.1 – The statistics of the ls-exotic.com
As we have already referred, the ls-exotic.com is online for a relatively short period of time, and in that
"still" short period, has already reached some results that show what the site represents for the
community.
