Women of Engro..PLEASE STAND UP!
The Story of Change, From Pixel to iSAP
In 2010, the management of Engro Foods Ltd. decided to implement an ERP system, which would serve as a platform to unite
ever expanding business needs. EFL, which started with a handful of employees, had become a dairy giant and a market leader
over a short span of five years. Its people, operations, and businesses have grown alongside this amazing expansion. EFL required a
system to bring the entire company together to be able to operate in an integrated manner: SAP (Systems, Applications and
Procedures) served as a solution. The project, titled ‘Project Pixel’, was spread over eight modules involving around 250 end
users and power users covering all functions of EFL, and was completed in seven months. Lead by Zainab Hameed, Zeeshan-ur-Rab
and Sadia Junaid, the entire Pixel Team went through a rollercoaster ride in taking this project live on 6th December 2010.
After the initial launch of the project, the Pixel Team entered its realization
phase in its 2nd quarter. Debates and discussions paved the way to the project
blue print, with the Pixel Team collecting master data and preparing mock cases
to test the application. The finale included EFL having to pass through IBM’s
quality assurance and user acceptance testing (UAT).
The Integration Testing phase was next, and for this phase the team sacrificed many sleepless nights in the month of Ramadan.
The project then moved into the End User Training phase, as the success of a small group of power users who implemented this
system was dependent upon end users (the ultimate users of the system) who, without adequate training, could not have run the
show. SAP training project started from 13th October 2010 and lasted till 8th Nov 2010. It took place in Karachi and
Lahore, training 250 end users for a total of 4008 training man hours. The attendance was 99% and the passing rate for the
tests conducted was 100%. The SAP training project, with its sheer scope, could easily be recorded as one of the major
projects for the 2010 training shop.
With its transformation from “Project Pixel” to “iSAP”, going live of this system has meant a BIG achievement for the Pixel
team. It is a proud moment for the entire EFL family! This team is aware that even though their job is not done yet, as long
as they have the support of all employees and faith in themselves, iSAP is going to pave the way for a bigger and brighter future
for EFL.

EFL Fights Back – Flood Relief Update
In the last issue of Between Us an entire section was dedicated to the spirit of EFL’s employees, who have either been victims
of the devastating floods of 2010 or have helped their fellow countrymen by providing food, shelter and basic necessities. And
the determination of us Foodies is still going strong!!
We decided to give an update on the activities that have been taking place at EFL locations:
In
-
SUKKUR & SAHIWAL:
7000 liters of milk have been distributed in IDP camps in Sukkur for one month.
Dry ration to 450 families has been distributed for a period of one month.
Healthcare facilities to 850 families have been provided for a period of one month.
Milk for children of 850 families have been provided in IDP camps Sukkur for one month.
Our brothers and sisters are still in need, so do your bit to help Pakistan and mail any helpful
ideas you may have in this context to [email protected] or contact The EnVision Flood Council.

Come One, Come All
EFL prides on the strength of its people and the value that
each individual brings to the organization. Keeping in line
with this sentiment and in order to welcome its new employees,
the HR team organized an orientation on the 3rd of November,
at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi. All new inductees from across
Pakistan were asked to partake in this half day endeavor as an
introduction to the company’s mission, vision and values.
The orientation session was seamlessly organized by Muhammad Ibrahim
and hosted by Adeela Khan. It familiarized the audience with rules,
procedure and policies that would be instrumental for induction into
EFL. Time was then reserved for tea with Sarfaraz, who spoke about the
EFL culture, its history and the vigor that surrounds the workplace,
stressing the start of a long term positive relationship with EFL.

Exploring
New
Horizons
Engro Foods Ltd. is taking quantum leaps in
exploring new horizons through the untiring
efforts of our project team at Sahiwal Plant.
The Project department has diligently been
working for the advancement of existing
facilities and is now pleased to announce the
successful commissioning of the Pasteurizer
III project: worth Rs.148 Million.
In addition, the extension of the ice cream
plant with a budget of Rs.525 Million is
underway and includes the expansion of
refrigeration, cold storage, cone baking and
the processing plant. We will keep our
passions high in our quest to bring more
prosperity to this worthy organization.
A New Paradigm
Solution
Direct Store Delivery (DSD) is a business
process often used in the Consumer Products
Industry (CP) to sell and distribute goods
directly to retail outlets, bypassing the
distributor’s network. Essentially, the
manufacturer gets in direct contact with
customers at the point-of-sale.
Engro Foods Ice Cream division selected SAP
MDSD solution to support its Ice Cream sales
in the Asian Region. The new solution came
with many challenges and complexities, but
in the end, due to combined efforts of the
EFL Project Team, SAP Pakistan, SAP Global,
and the engagement of other consultants, the
solution is running successfully in selected
areas of Lahore and Rawalpindi region.

HR Rockout – Fun & Masti, HR Istyle!!
The EFL Human Resources team met together with Sarfaraz A. Rehman in October for a long
awaited fun filled evening of Karaoke at Base Rock Cafe, Karachi. It was an entertaining event,
with lots of singing, dancing and delicious snacks.
We thought that we would be amateur singers, but hey, watch out! There are a handful of Sonu
Nigaam, Shakira and Rahat Fateh, with amazing performances of "It's the time to Disco" and "Naa
Kaho." This occasion provided a platform for Javed Iqbal, our new General Manager, Human Resources
to interact and get acquainted with the entire team.
Later that night, the team had dinner at The Diner to satisfy their roaring appetites after this
exciting and rejuvenating activity. The gathering was a huge success and allowed us to have a great
time and create wonderful memories.

Women of Engro..PLEASE STAND UP!
WOMEN, WIN, WORLD, WAR: Some of the strongest words start with
the letter ‘W’ and in Engro the list also includes “WEAVE”.
To maintain gender diversity and diversity on a broader
spectrum, companies have to understand the special needs of
diverse people. Weave is the platform that has given this
understanding and recognition to Engro women.
The third Weave event was held on Nov 01, 2010 and was hosted by
Engro Powergen, Vopak and EXIMP. The event’s theme was Self
Branding. There were 3 enlightening sessions by executive
trainers that really helped improve the conduct of participants at work as well as in their
personal lives. It started with Rahila Narejo who presented Brand ‘YOU’. She discussed the
importance of first impressions and networking.
Lucy Cornell, the director of Voice Coach™ gave a brief training to develop vocal presence
and power. The event also had an internal speaker, Naz Khan who is CFO E-FERT, who shared her
journey of success, which undoubtedly motivated the participants. The event ended with
rejuvenating breathing and relaxation exercises by an acclaimed yogi, Salma Mian.

Good To Great
Everyone in EFL is in high spirits & excited about SAP going live after the day
and night effort of SAP team. Our heartiest congratulations to all members and to
the EFL family..
On 6th December, 2010, SAP went live for EFL and we made history! The
Lahore Region made it’s history by logging the 1st Distributor’s Payment & 1st
Distributor’s claim in SAP after few minutes of SAP goes live.
We remember the day when the company announced the launching of SAP in Dairy
Business and we were really excited for it, at last we received an amazingly
planned schedule from Head Office for SAP training.
The training of SAP by Qaisar Imran & Mohammad Bilal was a fabulous experience and hence the transition has become
smooth. We can’t forget the learning moments & moments of joy by entering 1st Claim & 1st Payment in the SAP system.

Another great year from which to underline the achievements of our sales heroes: We start
with Gujar Khan Town, which hit 10 Million in the month of November 2010. From here
we salute the Mingora team, once again, for making headline news by achieving this year’s
total value target of 180.24 Million on the 310th day of this year.
On the same note, the Mardan personnel have succeeded in totaling the year’s volume and
value target achieved in 324 days, whilst the Kasur team has seen an average sales of
15 Million rise to 26 Million in the last 6 months for which DAM, MKT and SKB all
made contributions to this momentous event. The Eid Incentive Plan was also put into play,
allowing for a remarkable value sale record of 23 Million in 7 days alone! Capital area
managed to hit the highest sales benchmark of Rs.1 Billion, with hats off to TSM ISD,
who conquered WS segment in Islamabad and maintained dominance over key accounts.
The 2010 journey for Abottabad started from 29,000 LPD, now having reached
82,000 LPD, with the sales force aggressively pursuing its target of 100,000 LPD.
Larkana has achieved a YTD of 68.05 Million, with a landmark of 70.6 Million before 90
days in the month of October, 2010. Likewise, Sukkur achieved its annual target before
the year’s end, and Wah area, which started its journey with Rs.55 Million, won the “VIP
trophy” in March 2010, later crossing last year’s value of Rs.458 Million in just 258 days

FAST AND FEAST WITH CR!
Olper’s CR planned an Iftar event during Ramadan, to celebrate the grandeur of Ramadan.
Around 500 data base consumer guests appeared for the Olper’s Iftar party where they availed
the chance to meet up with Sana Tariq, Shireen Anwar, Zubaida Tariq, Rida Aftab and Chef
Adeel, who are the superstars of every home now and undoubtedly who makes Masala TV a
delightful taste!
To value our consumers the event took place at The Imperial Hall situated in a posh locality with jazzy, maroon and silver decor
that added splendor to the event. Consumers took the opportunity to catch up face to face with their favorite stars that they
see on TV every day. A sumptuous iftar and a relaxing cup of tea made of Olper’s milk gave the event a splendid conclusion.
But that’s not all! Olper’s also celebrated the birthdays of our loyal consumers, which expressed
enormous care, joy, and love for them, moreover, the consumers left delighted with an overwhelming
giveaway from us.
By the end, the entire event was a major success and everyone enjoyed it to
their fullest! Media partnership was credited by Masala TV.

Connecting EMAN with Pakistan
The last few months have been very exciting for team EMAN. We have
achieved amazing results by deploying the solution in eight areas. The
deployment team has successfully trained over five hundred MPD
resources ranging from Milk Collection Centre Incharges (MCCIs) to Area
Mangers. Over 5000 suppliers across Punjab have been issued EMAN cards.
The team for the first time in Pakistan has achieved daily payments in
Sahiwal area, by which suppliers selling us milk were paid within 24
hours. This is a revolution in the industry and has been initiated by
EFL!
The deployment team in coming months will complete this operation and
make one of the largest HSD networks in Pakistan.
EMAN Interesting Facts:
- 45 Tehsils of Punjab connected through EMAN
- Over 500,000 transactions processed over a
period of six months
- 10,000 man hours of training conducted
- Over 100 villages are connected with

Safety - it's the tool for LIFE
Safety has always occupied a driving seat in every industry following OSHA/DuPont standards. A continuous effort has
always been put in by the safety section & the respective safety committees towards the implementation of safety. In
line with these efforts the Admin Block safety committee has been striving through continuous improvement towards
safety execution. Various hazards were identified at the safety forum floor & were rectified. Some of the major
hazards are listed as follows.
-
Office chairs base design was modified.
Scrap areas were cleaned & the threat of fires were minimized.
Fire Extinguisher training was executed.
Presentation was delivered for office Ergonomics.
Quality was improved for canteen stuff.
We have tried our best to keep our people motivated
and as a result the attendance of participants have
improved 100% (as compared to 35-50% previously).

Champions in the Making
Champions are not made in gyms, they are made because of a desire, a
dream and a vision. A one day training workshop was held by Munem Khan
Tareen, (RSM Lahore Region for Lahore Team at Prince Hall), on 1st Oct,
2010. The objective behind this activity was to give a new dimension
to thinking about the horizon of the sales team. The essence of this
training session was that we must dream & think, but dreams can only
be achieved by a full throttle effort; dreaming without actually
‘doing’ will give zero results. The session was blended with videos, speeches from visionary
leaders, story writing from pictures, mind games and motivational songs that would help the
audience to visualize in a completely different way.
Hitting the September and also the November target after about 2 years is the beginning of a new
arena and Team Lahore is geared up to snatch leadership in the Lahore UHT area.
For 2011 there is just one phrase that rules our hearts:

Rawalpindi Rejuvenated
Rawalpindi is one of the largest metropolitan towns of Pakistan. But it has evolved over a long
period of time and hence its inter city boundaries are not clearly marked.
It had also become very difficult for the distributors to operate on previously defined
boundaries because of geographic constraints, resulting in low profitability for distributors,
as well as delayed and interrupted stock supplies.
Project Rejuvenation was thought out and initiated by the Rawalpindi Team, including myself
Imran Sheikh and Hassan Raza. After three months of rigorous working and analysis, finally it
was ready to be implemented by mid November.
New distributor boundaries were defined, load capacity enhanced and warehousing values were
standardized with support from KIEZEN.
The process finally evolved and a new distribution was setup with state of the art warehouse
and office facilities named Novelty Marketing Service. I am indebted to acknowledge the support
of Farrukh Umair who assisted the project team in every difficult situation beyond his capacity.
Inshallah, this project will pay off and be quite fruitful in the near future for EFL.

Q1. Why do you believe in Project Pixel?
OMAIR ZAHID NAGI: It can bring a much needed change in the processes and systems of this organization. It will be the tool for
efficiency in current and future expansions.
KHURRAM MAHMOOD: Engro Foods is the name of an extraordinary team that has the potential to create extraordinary successes.
The strength of this team is its people. However, since we are a relatively young company, we sometimes struggle in terms of
systems and processes. Project Pixel, I feel, is exactly what the doctor ordered for us. After a successful implementation we will
be able to lay the foundations of a strong infrastructure in the form of an integrated systems backbone that will help us achieve our
vision. I simply see it as a step, bringing us closer to our vision.
SADIA JUNAID: I feel Project Pixel is just what the doctor ordered for this company especially for HR. EFL has shown
unprecedented growth since its inception. However, gradually evolving, we had come to a point where we need systems to sustain
this growth rate and focus on process excellence. Secondly, every member of this time is operating on his/her highest level of
commitment to the project and is also a team that is technically very sound. Hence, my belief in this project is reinforced because
if this team cannot do it, I find it hard to visualize who can.
SHEHZAD MOHSIN: First, Project Pixel has a diverse yet jelled in team, which makes this project bound to succeed. Second,
we are challenging status quo every minute trying our best to bring excellence in the systems we are preparing for EFL for the
years to come. I have always believed in honest efforts and honest efforts is what this project is all about, aagay Allah Karsaz hay.
MUHAMMAD YOUSUF: We believe that Project Pixel will improve our productivity, efficiency & capability to the extent we have
never imagined before. With the scope of implementation currently at hand and the effectiveness with which it is being executed,
we are confident about the fulfillment of our belief. The powerful tools of SAP, including its information systems, reports & built in
controls will help us to carry out the time consuming tasks much faster and quicker.
Q2. What are your challenges as Power Users for SAP implementation?
OMAIR ZAHID NAGI: To get the system in place with minimum hitches.
KHURRAM MAHMOOD: Personally for me, SAP was a totally new world, as I had never seen a SAP screen ever before. However,
the real challenge was to align our 'AS IS' & the 'TO BE' processes as much as possible to limit change for End Users.
SADIA JUNAID: There has been so many I am thinking which one is the biggest... :) Well no, just kidding. This implementation is
a paradigm shift for HR. We are transitioning from a manual system to a very sophisticated system. This scenario has its inherent
challenges because HR is relatively a young division and we had spend minimal time in process re-engineering or even engineering in
some cases. So, we were not just working on building a system, but in a lot of areas we were working on designing the bare process
itself, which never existed. Secondly, the foundation upon which our old system stood was very different to the one of the new
system. Therefore, moving legacy data that was mapped according to the old system to a new system that was completely different
kept us up lots and lots of nights :)
SHEHZAD MOHSIN: Change management to avoid hick ups at go-live and time management to avoid hick-ups in personal life :)
MUHAMMAD YOUSUF: Implementing SAP will most likely alter existing business processes for the better, as long as change is
accepted. Often, one of the most difficult issues during a SAP implementation is reluctance to change. People become comfortable
with the way things have always been done. To put the necessary changes in place a well laid out plan must be established.
Q3. What are your feelings for the go live of this project?
OMAIR ZAHID NAGI: Lots of hard work and sleepless nights for one common objective.
KHURRAM MAHMOOD: I think Go Live should be very exciting for the whole project team, the whole team has put in a lot of
hard work to build this system and it would be really thrilling for all of us to see the system working live.
SADIA JUNAID: My excitement levels know no boundaries. This journey from scoping to going live has not been easy in any respect.
But finally, it is all coming together. I am convinced this implementation will take HR to the next level of excellence and that is
nothing short of a dream coming true :)
SHEHZAD MOHSIN: The change is coming and nobody can stop it, COME WHAT MAY!
MUHAMMAD YOUSUF: It’s a big achievement, I believe that we made history in Engro life. It is big project implementing in
Engro history with this implementation we have improved our process & controls. I believe that end users life becomes easier,
management reporting & controls are fulfilled. I am so thankful for
management to make me the part of iSAP.
