A CHRISTMAS THOUGHT
It's that time of year again when the days grow shorter, the temperatures dip and everyone looks with longing to the end of December
to join in Christmas festivities, say goodbye to another year and look
with promise for a new year and new beginnings.
Looking back over 2009, one might be hard pressed to find the happiness and light in all the doom and gloom that has prevailed in the
papers and in the minds of people around the globe. From the recession, to drastic climate change, to flooding in nearby communities, to war in Afganistan and the constant troubles that plague the
African continent, the world's problems were never far from our
thoughts. It would seem that is not much to celebrate, only commiserate.
Yet when one thinks of all the simple things in life that happen
every day without notice - like having coffee with a friend, the
warmth of a sunny day, a walk on the beach, or a smile from a passing stranger, just to name a few - it helps us to realize that life is not
so empty after all. Feeling gratitude for all of the things in life that
we already have seems simple but is perhaps difficult to put into
practice. At Christmas We are reminded to be thankful for family,
friends, love and companionship, but it really needs to be put into
practice all year round. After living through a time of great prosperity and being able to attain most things that we desired, maybe it is
time to slow down, enjoy time with our family and friends, and
learn to love the simple pleasures of life all year round.
So with this in mind, may the holidays refresh your spirit and bring
you new inspiration and happiness.
Wishing you all the happiness of the season and peace and prosperity in the new year.
Leslie Bremner.

Reflection for December. - Giving.
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
There are those who give little of the much which they have,
And they give it for recognition,
And their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.
And there are those who have little and give it all.
These are the believers in life and the bounty of life,
Little drops of water
Little grains of sand
Makes the mighty ocean
and the happy land
Little deeds of kindness
Little words of love
makes the earth an Eden
Like the heavens above
Malachy Hannaway
And their coffer is never empty.
Through the hands of such as these God speaks,
And from behind their eyes He smiles upon the earth.
Kahlil Gibran.
I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Christmas Hymns
O Come All Ye Faithful
O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God's holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Silent Night
Silent night, holy night
all is calm, all is bright
round yon virgin mother and child
holy infant so tender and mild
sleep in heavenly peace
sleep in heavenly peace
silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
glories stream from heaven afar
heavenly hosts sing alleluia!
Christ, the saviour is born
Christ, the saviour is born
silent night, holy night
son of god, love's pure light
radiant beams from thy holy face
with the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, lord, at thy birth
Jesus, lord, at thy birth "
All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Away in a Manger
Away in a manger,
No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky
Looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side,
'Til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there
